Chapter 417 She Didn't Come

Chapter 417 She Didn't Come
With nowhere to go, Tang Xu pulled the car over to the side of the road and rested on the steering wheel for a long time before finally straightening up.

She remembered what day it was, and she knew there were other things she needed to pay attention to; she absolutely couldn't let herself get stuck in this mood.

Thinking of this, Tang Xu rubbed her face vigorously and took out her phone.

Today is Ji Yan's birthday, and Yan Shiyu finally listened to her advice and decided to cook a meal for Ji Yan to celebrate her birthday, while also trying to repair the relationship between the siblings.

But he made many promises to her, and she was always the last to know how they ended.

Just as Tang Xu was about to call him, she suddenly realized something, paused for a moment, and then called Gao Yan instead, asking him if Yan Shiyu was still busy.

“Mr. Yan went back to Qiushuitai early this morning to prepare dinner,” Gao Yan replied. “He’s probably busy right now. Why don’t you just call him?”

"Did he really go back?" Tang Xu asked. "Did you go with him?"

After all, when she tried to get him to return to his previous attitude towards Ji Yan, he promised her that he would do so, but in the end he did nothing.

Gao Yan immediately understood what she meant, chuckled, and said, "Don't worry, he's definitely preparing dinner at Qiushui Terrace right now. I'm at the Yan family mansion right now, so I can act quickly if Miss Ji needs anything, like taking her back to Qiushui Terrace or something."

Hearing this answer, Tang Xu breathed a slight sigh of relief, but then couldn't help but ask, "Did she agree to go back for dinner?"

“No,” Gao Yan said. “You know her temper; she’s not one to agree to anything so easily. But I always feel that on this day, she should be able to lower her head a little. After all, the Yan family is still in a state of chaos, and it’s already quite remarkable that Mr. Yan is still willing to do this.”

Upon hearing Gao Yan's analysis, Tang Xu couldn't help but sigh, unsure how to respond.

After all, no one can predict Ji Yan's personality.

She wasn't as optimistic as Gao Yan about whether she would be able to have her birthday dinner today.

However, the current situation is ultimately moving in a positive direction—regardless of the nature of the relationship or the stalemate, someone has to take the first step to move forward. The worst thing is for both people to remain stubborn; otherwise, there may never be any progress.

Tang Xu hung up the phone, then restarted the car and returned to Royal Bay.

Although she was alone at home, her attention was always on Qiushuitai. However, she didn't dare to call Gao Yan or Yan Shiyu easily, for fear that Ji Yan might be with one of them when she called. If she caused any unnecessary misunderstandings, wouldn't all of Yan Shiyu's efforts be wasted?

Tang Xu waited anxiously until late at night.

It wasn't until midnight, when the doorbell rang, that Tang Xu suddenly looked up, her heart pounding in her chest, waiting for the person who entered to give her an answer.

Yan Shiyu entered the room as usual, gently closing the door behind her. She then changed her shoes in the entryway before leisurely entering the living room.

Tang Xu had been waiting with her head held high, and smiled the moment she saw him before asking, "How was the meal today?"

Yan Shiyu remained calm, taking off his coat as he answered indifferently, "She didn't come."

Tang Xu's smile froze instantly. Even though she had prepared herself mentally, she still couldn't help but feel so anxious that she could hardly breathe.

But she couldn't say much about it. After a pause, she could only say softly, "It's okay, take it slow. There's plenty of time later."

Yan Shiyu responded softly, seemingly unconcerned about the outcome, simply saying, "She went to keep her appointment with Lu Xingyan." Tang Xu was shocked upon hearing this, "Really? She spent her birthday with Lu Xingyan?"

“Yes,” Yan Shiyu said. “We met ten minutes before midnight, so we could say we celebrated my birthday together.”

At this point, Tang Xu really didn't know what to say.

Torn between two extreme emotions, she was happy for Lu Xingyan, but even more saddened by Yan Shiyu.

In the end, she didn't say anything, but simply reached out and gently hugged Yan Shiyu.

The calmer he appeared, the more unsettled she became.

How could I not care?

Every little thing he did showed that he cared!

As Tang Xu buried her face in his shoulder, trying to warm him with her embrace, she suddenly heard Yan Shiyu ask, "What did you eat for dinner?"

Tang Xu opened her mouth as if to answer, but no answer ever reached her lips.

She was stunned for a moment before she finally remembered that she hadn't eaten anything that evening.

He couldn't hear her reply, but Yan Shiyu already knew the answer in his heart. He reached out and gently stroked the back of her head, whispering, "Shall we go out for a late-night snack?"

Tang Xu raised her face and nodded repeatedly, "Okay!"

After a pause, she added, "If I had known, I would have packed up what you made today and brought it back. That way, nothing would have gone to waste, we could both have something to eat, and I could have enjoyed your cooking!"

"Do you really want to try it?" Yan Shiyu suddenly asked.

Tang Xu asked with some doubt, "You didn't still keep those dishes, did you?"

Yan Shiyu gently shook her head, then said, "What do you want to eat? I'll make it for you again."

Upon hearing this, Tang Xu couldn't help but laugh out loud, saying, "Whatever you do, you don't find it troublesome."

"I don't mind the trouble," Yan Shiyu said. "If you want to eat it, I'll make it."

Tang Xu realized he seemed to be serious and was momentarily stunned. "Did you buy too many groceries today?"

"No," Yan Shiyu said. "Wouldn't it be fresher to buy it at this time?"

Before Tang Xu could react to his question, Yan Shiyu had already taken her coat and wrapped it around her, then pulled her out the door.

Tang Xu really didn't expect that her casual remark would trigger such an outrageous action, but then she thought about it again. In the early hours of the morning in the past, when the whole city was asleep, in those bright or dark, quiet and deserted places, the two of them had done quite a few outrageous things together. What difference would one more thing make?

Since it's already happened, let's just enjoy this moment of madness to the fullest.
