Marriage Seduction Addiction

Chapter 151 A Black Umbrella

The plane carrying Yan Shiyu and Gao Yan landed in New York late at night local time.

The next morning, a heavy snow fell in the city.

Early in the morning, Gao Yan braved the snow to go out and handle some official business.

By the time he finished his business, it was nearly noon. When he rushed to a Greek restaurant on Fifth Avenue, Yan Shiyu was sitting alone by the window, quietly watching the wet streets and the snowflakes falling in the sky.

Perhaps because of the snow, there were only a handful of customers in the restaurant.

Gao Yan glanced around but didn't see the person he expected, so he quickly walked over and sat down opposite Yan Shiyu.

If he wasn't mistaken, Yan Shiyu had probably been sitting here since early morning.

Gao Yan looked at the snow outside the window with a slight sense of unease.

"It's snowing, is she not coming?"

Unexpectedly, his words came true.

The person they wanted to meet reportedly came to this restaurant for lunch every Friday at noon.

Unfortunately, this snowfall on Friday of this week must have disrupted many people's plans.

Gao Yan hadn't expected to arrive in New York so quickly only to encounter such an unexpected situation. Just as he was feeling worried and conflicted, he looked up and saw that Yan Shiyu's expression was calm and unmoved.

Think about it too.

Over the years, I've met so many people, but the endings have always been disappointing.

One more disappointment, and it's just one more time.

The two sat in the restaurant until two o'clock. Yan Shiyu pulled out a chair, stood up, and said only one sentence: "Let's go."

Gao Yan sighed inwardly, but at the same time, he felt a strange sense of relief.

Having already come all the way to New York, it's impossible to leave just because we didn't see each other today.

In other words, they will stay here until they complete their plan and meet the person they want to see.

Gao Yan followed Yan Shiyu out of the restaurant, looked up and saw the snow falling heavier and heavier, and gently pursed his lips.

Even staying just one more day would be good.

Staying for one more day means one more glimmer of hope.

Even if that glimmer of hope is extremely slim.

That afternoon, Gao Yan received news that the person they wanted to meet was supposed to attend a ball that evening, but the ball had been canceled due to the heavy snow.

When Gao Yan reported the news to Yan Shiyu, he couldn't help but add a few more words: "I wonder how many of Miss Yang's trips will be canceled because of this snow. I'm afraid we'll have to stay a couple more days. Should we inform the company? In case we can't make it back on Monday, it'll be good for them to be prepared in advance."

When Yan Shiyu said this, he was sitting by the floor-to-ceiling window of a high-rise apartment.

From this angle, Central Park below is just a hazy white expanse, and the whole city looks cold and desolate.

Yan Shiyu simply replied, "Go ahead and make the arrangements."

Gao Yan breathed a sigh of relief and turned to make the arrangements.

The next day, they received new information that Miss Yang would be replacing a violinist who was stranded due to heavy snow at a children's charity event that afternoon.

This was originally good news.

But Gao Yan couldn't be happy.

Firstly, he had been disappointed too many times, and he knew in his heart that even Yan Shiyu wouldn't have high expectations for this Miss Yang.

Secondly, once they meet Miss Yang and confirm her identity, they will return to Huai City.

After returning, nothing will change, and Yan Shiyu's condition will not improve.

With these feelings in mind, Gao Yan accompanied Yan Shiyu to the location of the children's foundation event.

Because of another snowfall in the afternoon, city traffic was in complete chaos, and a journey that should have been less than ten kilometers took two hours to complete.

When we arrived at the event location, the event was already nearing its end.

On stage, the orchestra was playing a familiar piece. Because it was only a medium-sized event, the orchestra's lineup wasn't very high; there were only two violinists on stage, a man and a woman.

Without a doubt, that woman was Miss Yang, whom they had come to see.

Gao Yan couldn't help but widen his eyes and carefully observe everything about Miss Yang.

Yan Shiyu, however, only glanced at it.

"Not her."

He only said those three words before turning and leaving.

Before Gao Yan could even get a clear look at Miss Yang's features, he immediately turned around and followed Yan Shiyu.

On the way back, Yan Shiyu did not say a word.

Gao Yan didn't say anything either, but simply drove on silently.

After driving only a short distance, the already chaotic traffic came to a complete standstill.

The car remained stationary for more than half an hour, stuck in traffic and not moving at all.

The atmosphere inside the car was almost suffocating.

Just as Gao Yan felt he should say something to break the silence, Yan Shiyu, who was sitting in the back seat, suddenly opened the car door.

"You drive back, I'll take a walk."

After leaving those words, Yan Shiyu got out of the car.

Gao Yan's heart tightened.

He was well aware of Yan Shiyu's condition. What happened today, even if it was something he was used to, was still disappointing, especially considering the lingering worries caused by Tang Xu.

Gao Yan quickly pushed open the door and got out of the car.

Since the traffic is already like this, leaving the car there won't have much of an impact. He can't let Yan Shiyu walk alone on the street.

But as soon as Gao Yan got out of the car, he couldn't find Yan Shiyu anywhere in front, behind, left, or right.

Snow began to fall again from the sky, and the main road was brightly lit. Pedestrians hurried along the road, most of them with no time to appreciate the Christmas snow scene, only hoping to return to their warm shelter as soon as possible.

There is a chain hotel in Greenwich Village, near the downtown area.

On the building, most of the small square windows were lit up, and at a glance, there were thirty to fifty lights.

But who knows who lives behind which window?

Ironically, at the intersection of an inconspicuous, tiny street across from the main street, a person stood still under the dim streetlights.

Snowflakes fluttered down, but the man in the black coat ignored the wind and snow, bent down, and struck a match.

Between pale, slender fingers, the flickering flame of a match ignited a cigarette. As it burned past the middle and was about to extinguish itself, a large, grasping hand abruptly snapped off its last glimmer of light.

Across from the hotel lobby, a slender, tall figure appeared under the eaves.

Perhaps not expecting it to snow outside again, she stood at the door, looked at the sky and sighed softly. Then she stood still for a moment, probably pondering what to do next.

After a moment, Tang Xu made up his mind.

The convenience store she needed to go to was only 300 meters away, and going there in the snow didn't seem like a big deal.

Thinking of this, Tang Xu let out a soft breath and walked down the steps in front of her.

However, just as a few snowflakes drifted down in front of her, it suddenly seemed as if something had separated her from the snowflakes.

Tang Xu looked up and saw a black umbrella.

After a moment of distraction, Tang Xu suddenly turned around, only to be met with Meng Tianyou's radiant smile.

"Sister, what a coincidence! Are you going to the convenience store too? Let's go together!"

At the same time, across the street, a cigarette that had just been lit was extinguished. (End of Chapter)
