Chapter 87 Occupation Forces
Chapter 87 Occupation Forces
"Hurry! Go and clear out the largest room! The Major needs to rest!" The junior officer who knocked on the door shouted fiercely.
Unlike other German troops, they all wore a black swastika armband with a red background and a white circle on their left arm, and there were "SS" logos similar to lightning symbols on the collar badges on both sides.
These people were not field troops, but the more ferocious German SS.
"I'm sorry, I'm really sorry. The largest house in this town has been given to another captain to recuperate." Seeing the German soldiers armed with live ammunition, the mayor, who was over 60 years old, kept apologizing, with beads of sweat appearing on his temples.
"Recuperating? How many people are they?" the junior officer continued to ask.
"Two, only two." The mayor answered tremblingly.
"Sir, it is said that there are two..." the officer ran back and whispered something into the colonel's ear.
The Netherlands has only been occupied for a month, and now it is practicing police state-style management. A captain in the combat unit was injured and did not receive treatment in the hospital but went to a residential town to "recuperate". This behavior is very much like someone coming to the town to extort money under the pretext of recuperating.
In theory, the SS, which has the functions of a local police force, could intervene in such matters.
"Cough, cough, cough!" The leading German major kept coughing, as if his respiratory tract was very uncomfortable. He waved his hand at his subordinates and said, "Forget it, let's find a smaller house and don't bother them."
"But, sir, they are clearly..."
"Lieutenant, remember we are the SS, not the Gestapo or the patrol. You need to focus on what you should pay attention to."
The major's tone was not too harsh, but his subordinates immediately stood at attention, showing that they had great respect for their superiors.
"In addition," the major looked at his assistant, "in the occupied area, if it is not necessary, remember to be polite to the residents. German soldiers should be well-mannered. This is what my former comrade said, and I will pass it on to you."
"Yes! Sir! Thank you for your teachings!" The subordinate answered, standing at attention and puffing out his chest. Then he turned around and said to the mayor with a very stiff expression, "Please find a clean room and ask someone to clean it up. It should be dust-free. The major's health is not good and he can't live in a dusty room for a long time."
"Okay, okay!" The mayor agreed, bending over.
"Wait!" The major behind him called out to the mayor, and the old man turned around nervously.
"Here," the major handed a roll of Reichsmarks to the mayor. "Buy some food and find a few people to help run errands. The rest will be used as rent."
The mayor was stunned. This major looked scary, but his style was much better than the previous one. At least he knew how to buy things with money.
Hepburn, who was walking in front, turned around and wanted to leave quietly, but was stopped by a cold voice, "Miss, can you help me carry my luggage?"
Hepburn instantly felt as if a cold snake was thrown into her neck. She pretended to be calm, turned around and nodded.
Carrying a large suitcase, the girl followed the German to a house at the other end of the town and followed the one-eyed German up to the second floor.
As she walked, she observed the guy in front of her. He was taciturn, serious, and his dark military uniform gave off a chill. He was exactly like the villain in her dreams.
She didn't want to stay with this person any longer and just wanted to leave here as soon as possible.
"Sir, this box has to be placed...Ah!!!!" the girl suddenly screamed in horror.
The man leaned against the table and just took off his sheepskin gloves. A huge burn mark covered the back of his hand. The skin there was twisted like the skin of a toad, and it looked like a rag stuck to his hand. And it was not just his hands, the skin on his neck was the same.
It's really scary!
"Are you scared?" The major put down his hand. "This is what I got from the last war. Don't be afraid. As long as they are not resistance fighters, we will not harm ordinary people."
The girl swallowed and nodded stiffly.
After that, the German chatted with the girl casually, talking about the weather, local food, and even some folk legends and allusions... "By the way, have you seen the Germans who came before?" the major asked casually during the conversation.
"Yes." The girl answered subconsciously, and then she realized that she had been tricked by the other party.
"Oh? What kind of people are they?" the major asked calmly, crossing his arms.
"He is tall and thin..." The girl, who was forced into a corner, made up a story about his appearance to fool the man.
The major nodded as he listened, then took out a piece of candy and handed it to the girl, "Okay, you can go now."
The nervous Hepburn fled out of the house as if she had been pardoned.
When the girl was out of sight, the one-eyed major signaled to the people outside, "She was very nervous when I mentioned the resistance members. She might be lying after that. Follow her and see."
Huh~huh~huh~, Hepburn felt like her lungs were about to run out.
Faster! Faster! Faster!
She ran to the house as fast as she could and banged on the door with her little fists.
Bang bang bang! Bang bang bang!
The girl knocked hard on the door, but there was no response from inside and even the lights were off.
Ran away?
"Huh~ That's great, I escaped, that's great..." Hepburn patted her chest gently, feeling somewhat relieved and a little disappointed.
Click!Click!Click!
The sound of military boots on gravel.
"Are you looking for someone?" A gloomy and cold voice sounded behind her, and the one-eyed major and his soldiers appeared behind her.
"Who's inside? You should know." The major walked forward and asked.
The girl shook her head in horror.
The major signaled to the soldier behind him, "Go in and take a look."
"Sir, there's no one inside, but the fireplace is still warm!" the soldier shouted, opening the window.
"We just left a short time ago..." The major groaned for a moment, took out the Ruger pistol from the holster and pointed it at the girl's head. "I have limited time, so I can only be rough."
"Who are they? Where did they go? Tell me!!"
The girl hugged her shoulders in fear and closed her eyes.
The major shook his head and put his finger on the trigger.
Buzz!!! Buzz!!!
A huge noise sounded behind him, and the German turned around suddenly. The truck that was parked at the door suddenly started up and rushed towards the crowd.
Two bundles of objects suspected to be bombs flew out of the car window with burning sparks and fell directly into the crowd.
"Bomb! Get down!" the adjutant shouted and threw his superior to the ground.
Whoosh~ A truck drove over, a hand reached out from the door, picked up the dumbfounded girl on the street, and ran out at full speed!
Hiss, hiss, hiss~ The fuse of the "bomb" on the ground was still burning. The Germans lay on the ground for half a minute and saw no movement. So someone bravely stood up and walked over, and found that it was just a fake bomb made of fuse and old cardboard.
