Chapter 311 Super AI
Chapter 311 Super AI
Professor Craig drove over in a Nissan of unknown make and model.
"Boss, I remember you said you would be there before three o'clock." He Chi looked at his watch, which showed that it was time for dinner.
"It's not my fault. The car broke down in the mud on the way and I had a hard time fixing it." Professor Craig was a little embarrassed and explained while wiping his half-bald head with a handkerchief.
"Please replace that Nissan. It's even shabbier than the one I had before."
"I'm short of money, so I don't mind if you're willing to pay."
After the daily banter, the professor carefully took out a box from his arms, inside which lay quietly a little creature with a mechanical luster all over its body.
It was a spider-shaped mechanical object, about the size of a three-year-old child's palm, with many slender legs.
It is the root cause of Professor Craig's poverty - an AI robot that has been improved several times.
Professor Craig usually lived frugally, and even often deducted He Chi's salary like a rogue, but he spent all his money on this little darling.
This was the third time He Chi had seen it. The little guy seemed lighter than the last time he saw it, and the external sensors seemed to be different as well.
"You upgraded the things again?" He Chi said, looking at the box.
"Yes, the effect this time is close to perfect." The professor picked up the robot on the table as if he was holding his girlfriend, and introduced it in the tone of an old father:
"Ouster OS LiDAR, multispectral camera, Intel RealSense D455 depth sensor, bionic tactile sensor..."
"How much?" After hearing the above mentioned parts, He Chi felt that his boss was going to have to eat dirt again.
"It's not expensive. I just happened to catch a batch of orders that were returned by the military. This time the renewal is only 40 US dollars." Professor Qian regained some sanity. "Please rest assured, I have increased the loan amount this time and will not delay your salary."
He Chi stopped the other party from chattering. "Boss, I'm not asking for a salary. In fact, I plan to pay you this time, but I want to confirm one thing first."
When the professor heard that there was money to be made, his eyes lit up and he said, "If you ask, I will definitely not give you a discount."
"Can this little guy really simulate human behavior as you said?" He Chi held the professor's shoulder and said formally, "This is very important, please don't exaggerate."
"Well..." Professor Craig hesitated for a moment and then said, "Theoretically, there is no problem."
"What does theory mean?" Hearing such ambiguous words, everyone else in the room became annoyed.
"That's just in theory." The professor picked up his spider robot. "Its AI model was designed by me personally. In theory, it is stronger than any existing artificial intelligence, but..."
The professor paused and said, "However, I have only tested its learning ability in a simulated environment, and have not actually conducted large-scale learning interactions with people, so I cannot be sure of its actual effect."
"Let me give you an analogy." The professor used the style of a university lecturer. "It's like I have worked hard to raise a child. I have always believed that he is gifted and a genius who is one in a million. However, until I send him to elementary school and get his first test results, I cannot verify whether my judgment is objective."
"What if I offer such an opportunity?" He Chi walked over and stroked the robot and asked.
"I am willing to provide a testing environment and venue to help you verify its learning ability, and I will pay you for it. How about 10 yuan?"
"Of course, no problem." Hearing the number 10, the professor became excited. He rubbed his hands and said, "Great, I can conduct a comprehensive sampling, and it only takes half a year..."
"We don't have half a year, only three weeks at most." He Chi poured cold water on him. "What on earth do you want my robot for?" Professor Craig began to feel that the atmosphere was not right.
"I'm going to use it to help me operate on my patients."
"This is impossible!" The professor jumped up.
The muscles on the professor's face twitched twice. "He, do you know what this means?"
"Although I believe in my invention, you are asking a sixth grader to solve calculus after a short period of study."
In contrast, He Chi was very calm. He coughed and said, "Boss, you must not know that we in China have an ancestral craft called Chicken Baby."
-
In the basement, a piece of pig intestine that was torn apart by needles and thread was brought up - this was the result of the spider robot's first day of scalpel training.
Looking at what was in front of her, Professor Caroline shook her head. "If this was on an operating table, the patient would have died twice. This is the worst suturing job I have ever seen."
"I don't think so. I've seen worse." Dr. Molina interrupted.
"who?"
"Yours." Dr. Molina pointed at her junior schoolmate. "Do you remember the first time you simulated a suture operation? The whole room was covered in blood plasma. It was a disaster."
"Hey, that was all in the past, and I'm not working in surgery now." Caroline on the side protested like a child whose secrets had been exposed.
Doctor Molina raised her hand to stop the student from complaining, then looked at the people around her and said, "I mean, this guy is not doing badly. He is almost as good as a human beginner. The question is how fast is he learning?"
The robot quickly gave an answer.
The next day, its robotic arm sewed the tail of a mouse back together.
"Incredible." Molina exclaimed. "This progress is quite fast. It's almost the same as that of second-grade students. How did you do it?"
"He sutured more than a hundred mice last night, and worked until almost dawn. It watched the whole process." Lisa at the side helped explain.
"I see." Molina rubbed her chin. "Its learning progress should be proportional to the time it spends with the imitator and the number of learning samples."
"But there is still a distance between animal experiments and human surgery. Can it really be done?"
In the following days, the robot almost always lay on He Chi's shoulder, even when sleeping.
There were two cases of injured people from gang fights at the Midway Clinic. When He Chi was performing surgery, the robot was watching the whole process.
Finally, a week later, a black gangster with appendicitis came to seek help. After he was anesthetized, He Chi completely let go.
"The operation was very successful. The appendix was removed very cleanly. If it was done by a newly graduated student, it would have been an excellent job." Molina continued to comment as she looked at the cut items on the plate.
The spider robot shook its body and rotated its compound eye-like sensors, as if it was pleased by the praise.
