Chapter 208 Treasure?
Chapter 208 Treasure?
At night in Death Valley Geological Park, the sky is full of brilliant stars. Without the pollution of city lights, you can see the most beautiful starry sky here.
However, at this unromantic time, some people started to make trouble.
"Hmph! You guys go and see. I'd look like an idiot if I went out now." Lola drove Sean out of the car and hid inside, sulking.
Click! The car door opened.
"I said, I'm not going out!" Lola pushed with one hand. If it was Sean, this slap would have pushed him directly out of the car door, but the person opposite would not move at all.
The person who came in was He Chi.
"Eat something? I saw you only ate a little at dinner." He Chi put down the plate in his hand, which had a sandwich and the BBQ prepared for dinner.
Being angry couldn't fill her stomach, so Laura looked at the food on the table and picked up a sandwich and stuffed it into her mouth.
He Chi handed over a glass of water. Laura picked up the cup and took a gulp without hesitation, and wiped her mouth with the back of her hand in an unladylike manner.
"Actually, you're not the one who should be embarrassed today." He Chi watched the little girl calm down and began to try to start a conversation.
"You don't have to coax me. What happened today was stupid. I know that." Laura still turned her head away and was angry.
"No, I'm not kidding you. The dumbest person today is actually the salesperson." He Chi said, looking at the girl in front of him.
Laura was stunned and turned around, "Why?"
He Chi dug into his pocket, took out the small packages of tablets, pointed at them and asked, "What is this?"
"Water purification tablets," Laura replied, tilting her head.
"What is it used for?" He Chi continued to ask.
"To purify polluted water sources in the wild." Laura didn't understand what He Chi meant.
"So where are we now?" He Chi pointed to the surrounding scenery again.
"Death Valley Geological Park? Please don't treat me as a fool." Lola was a little angry.
"So where is the polluted water source here?"
"Of course..." Lola was stunned halfway through her words. Yes, the Death Canyon is surrounded by Gobi, desert, and salt lakes, and there is no ground water source at all.
"Except for those guys who often interact with Mr. Constantine, how many people have you seen who can speak so fluently while facing four guns at the same time?" He Chi was still inspiring Lola.
"I understand, He, you mean that guy is suspicious." The girl's eyes lit up.
"Probably. He's probably not just a staff member. He may have sneaked in with some purpose. But he probably has no ill intentions towards us. Even if he does, there's no need for us to make things more complicated."
After saying that, He Chi picked up the plate again and said, "So even though the other party is not a hallucinogen dealer, in a sense you did not suspect the wrong person. Do you feel better now?"
Although Laura didn't respond, her facial expression showed that she was in a much better mood.
When the two men walked out of the RV, the others were just halfway through their campfire storytelling session.
Jaina had just told a rural legend from her childhood, and now it was Sean's turn.
The freckled boy pushed his glasses up and said, "Well, I'm not very good at telling horror stories, so I'll just tell you a little history of this place."
Sean leaned forward, the bright fire illuminating his face.
"About 200 years ago, a large number of gold mines were discovered in Death Valley, attracting many people to come here to pan for gold." "Later, some of the first people who came found gold and became rich, but they were envied by others. Those guys recruited bandits and killed all those who panned for gold."
"The gold stained with blood was collected and buried in an abandoned mine. Then the bandits fought each other over the uneven distribution of the spoils and eventually all died. As a result, no one knew the whereabouts of the gold."
Laura suddenly perked up, "Are you saying there is a treasure here?"
"These are all legends that have been around for many years. They are probably fake," said Sean after he finished telling the story.
"why?"
Lisa came up to explain, "Because this place has been under the jurisdiction of the government for a long time, if the amount of gold is really huge, it should have been dug out long ago with current technology."
"If the amount of gold is small, it's not worth the risk of exploration."
"That's right. There are several accidents in Death Valley every year. Half of them are safety accidents caused by attempts to illegally explore mines. It is said that they are all related to toxic metal pollution." He Chi added at last.
"It's boring. I thought we could play an adventure game." Lola pouted and turned away, and the topic was over.
That night, when everyone was asleep, He Chi walked out of the RV alone.
Under the starry sky, he took his equipment and stood outside hesitantly.
It wasn't that he was fascinated by the legend of gold, but when Sean was telling the story, he heard a voice in his ear, "Contacted with small information fragments, the total progress of information collection is currently 13.55%."
Why would an old legend from the American West be related to the quest in the dungeon? He Chi couldn't understand.
Perhaps the so-called "treasure" is related to his mission?
Want to go see it?
After all the equipment was organized, He Chi hesitated.
Reason told him that this behavior was meaningless and full of danger. The risks of exploring abandoned mines without permission were unpredictable. No matter how skilled you were, once a mine collapsed, the outcome would be death.
After walking a dozen meters subconsciously, He Chi finally chose to turn around.
He gave up. There was no need to take risks for something so unknown.
But as he was returning, the fog in the valley began to thicken and his vision became blurred.
"The next copy is about to open, please be prepared." The system's voice sounded in the fog.
"Copy: Death March, Time: 1942, Location: Philippines, Mission Objective: Successfully escape the area and search for key information fragments."
"Note: This mission is an escape mission with a time limit. If it cannot be completed before August 1942, it will be automatically considered a failure."
"Transmission begins!" Without waiting for He Chi to react, the system started talking to itself.
The surrounding scenery began to change, and the latest sense to recover was touch. The originally cold body temperature around me suddenly became hot.
He Chi held the thing beside him with his hand and found that it was a huge tropical tree. His sense of smell began to recover, and a unique smell of the tropical rain forest instantly came over.
boom! ! ! ! ! !
There were explosions filling his eardrums.
"Catch him! Don't let him get away! Chase him!"
He Chi raised his hand and took out his revolver because what he just heard was Japanese.
