Constantine didn't take Lin Bei's warning to heart.
After his eyes adjusted to the dimness of the sewer, Constantine walked beside Lin Bei, gripping the axe tightly. He carefully observed his surroundings, but found nothing and saw nothing.
It was as if the police shooting at the sewer opening just now was a joke.
After hearing Lin Bei's warning, Constantine shrugged: "Is it that serious? Even you are telling me to be careful. Could it be that what's inside is more dangerous than the demons we've encountered before?"
Lin Bei walked through the sewers as if it were a leisurely stroll, but his reply to Constantine was tinged with seriousness: "It's not serious for me, of course. I can handle any situation. But for you, it's a bit serious."
Lin Bei thought for a moment, then continued calmly, "This is different from the demons I've encountered before. This isn't a power originating from Earth. Although you have the power to exorcise demons, it's not enough against what's here. Don't worry, no matter how corrupted you become, as long as you have a breath left, I can restore you to your original form."
These words were meant to be comforting, but to Constantine they sounded rather strange.
Constantine smacked his lips, too lazy to correct Lin Bei that his words weren't comforting, and instead asked, "Can I smoke?"
Lin Bei glanced at him: "Whatever. Actually, I don't know if those things have a sense of smell, but hurry up and don't let them get away."
Constantine deftly lit a cigarette, thinking to himself, "They got away. With all those police corpses scattered on the ground, it's hard to say who would escape."
He didn't say it aloud, but instead exhaled a satisfied puff of smoke and followed Lin Bei deeper into the sewers.
As Constantine stepped back into the water, which was ankle-deep, a soft splashing sound came from the surface, creating ripples. Suddenly, a strange rustling sound came from the darkness ahead.
Lin Bei narrowed his eyes, and just as the sound of wind breaking came from the darkness, he immediately shoved Constantine aside.
Constantine slipped and lost his footing, falling awkwardly into the water. He cursed, but didn't blame Lin Bei. He nimbly got up, swung his black axe, and chopped down hard at the thing wriggling on the ground, preparing to pounce again.
A piercing scream rang out in the darkness, then gradually subsided until there was no more sound.
Constantine crouched down to get a closer look, and only then did he realize that it was a strangely shaped insect.
Although it was called an insect, it was about half an arm's length long, and it looked gruesome and disgusting. Constantine frowned deeply: "What is this thing? It's disgusting. Could it be that this is the kind of thing that caused so many police officers to die outside?"
As soon as they finished speaking, a tremor suddenly came from beneath their feet. The tremor was irregular, but they could tell that it was caused by the dead insects, and that something was heading their way.
Lin Bei kicked the facehugger corpse. Fortunately, the weapon he gave Constantine was one he had fused together himself; otherwise, if it were a weapon from this world, it probably wouldn't even be able to break through the facehugger's skin.
He looked up into the darkness ahead: "This is the alien creature I told you about. It is true that this kind of thing has killed many people, but this is just its juvenile form. What we will face next is the main event."
Just as Lin Bei finished speaking, Constantine finally realized that something was approaching them from the darkness.
After Constantine stood up with the axe on his back, the tremors beneath his feet suddenly stopped.
The aliens have found them.
Constantine frowned; this feeling made him very uncomfortable.
He knew the enemy was right next to him, but he felt nothing at all and couldn't detect any enemy presence.
In the past, when facing demons, he could always instinctively sense their presence and the aura they concealed.
But now, I don't feel anything.
He could barely sense the insect that had pounced on him, but now he was completely helpless against the adult alien.
At that moment, Constantine finally understood the corpses scattered all over the ground outside, and he also understood the police outside.
When faced with such a powerful enemy, ordinary humans like them really have no other options but to shoot in vain and watch their comrades die.
If Lin Bei doesn't take action at this time, the entire city might be destroyed.
As Constantine's thoughts were in turmoil, Lin Bei noticed that something was wrong with Constantine. He raised his hand and activated the power of the Shadow Monarch. Black liquid surged from the darkness and instantly filled the entire sewer before Lin Bei slowly spoke.
"Snap out of it, Constantine. This is not the time for you to be distracted. If you die, I won't be collecting your body."
Just as Lin Bei opened his mouth, something flew swiftly towards him from the darkness.
Lin Bei waved his hand, and black liquid surged up and blocked his way. A sizzling sound of corrosion came from the other side of the black liquid, and a fishy stench spread.
Lin Bei's eyes turned slightly cold. There was no need to be polite with aliens. These extraterrestrial beings were intelligent, but they couldn't communicate with humans.
Lin Bei kicked Constantine into the left corner of the sewer and casually ordered, "Their juveniles are over there. Go and take care of them."
After saying that, Lin Bei ignored Constantine and leaped into the horde of aliens. With a sweep of the black liquid, he knocked all the aliens that tried to pounce on him against the wall.
That's right, you can't see your surroundings in this dimly lit sewer, but the darkness has no effect on Lin Bei.
He had noticed that when the aliens attacked him, the sewers were teeming with them all the way from here.
Lin Bei was amazed that the aliens had such a large force, yet they were still living in this sewer. After rushing into the group of aliens, he began to take care of these alien creatures one by one.
While using the black liquid to resist the roaring aliens that rushed towards him, Lin Bei slowly walked forward, trying to attract as much attention as possible from the aliens, hoping that all the aliens in the sewer would attack him.
Once Lin Bei realized that all the adult aliens in the sewer were inside this sewer pipe, he slightly curled his lips and calmly used the Word of Power to "Disintegrate".
As Lin Bei's indifferent voice faded into the darkness, the entire sewer suddenly shuddered.
The next second, an invisible force emanated from Lin Bei and rapidly spread in all directions.
As this immense, invisible force spread, the tremors in the sewers grew stronger and stronger, far more intense than the vibrations caused by the aliens running around earlier. This caused many of the aliens hanging upside down to fall down.
An invisible force continued to spread outwards.
Any alien that was being attacked by the invisible force would freeze in place, unable to move, the moment it was touched.
In just two breaths, the terrifying aliens froze in place like statues, and the sewers that had been echoing with their roars fell silent instantly.
Once the roars completely subsided, the aliens that had surrounded Lin Bei suddenly shattered.
All the aliens in the sewers had been cut into equal-sized cubes, which gushed across the ground with countless foul-smelling liquids, and the small, black cubes also fell down in a flurry. When the crowded sewers were finally cleared again, there wasn't a single alien left around Lin Bei; only countless small, black cubes of equal size lay piled up on the ground, a disgusting and bloody sight.
Having easily dealt with humanity's greatest enemy, Lin Bei deliberately used his divine sense to scan the area, confirming that there were no more adult aliens in the sewers before nodding in satisfaction and turning to find Constantine.
As he walked, he muttered to himself, "Constantine, you better not disappoint me. If you die, there will be no one to drive."
Just then, a weary, cursing voice came from around the corner ahead: "Damn it, can't you say something nice? Hurry up and come help me, my leg is broken."
Lin Bei raised an eyebrow, walked around the corner and saw that Constantine was in a terrible state. Most of his clothes were corroded and his body was covered with pits of varying sizes. His leg was broken, but it was only a fracture, and it didn't look like the damage caused by the facehugger.
Lin Bei glanced ahead and sensed through his divine sense that there wasn't a single living facehugger. Lin Bei was quite surprised: "I didn't expect you to be so capable, actually killing them all."
As he spoke, he half-squatted down and covered Constantine's legs with the black liquid.
Having traversed so many worlds, Lin Bei has mastered the ability to repair human tissue with black liquid, capable of reattaching severed limbs, let alone fractures like Constantine's.
Constantine sneered, lighting a cigarette as he looked down: "What, you don't believe in my abilities? You were acting like you had everything under my control and trusted me just now? Damn, what bad luck..."
Lin Bei casually asked, "So how did you break your leg?"
Constantine's face darkened instantly at the mention of this.
How else could it be broken?
As he fought those disgusting insects, after killing the last one, he prepared to leave, only to find another one ambushing him from the shadows.
Just as the facehugger was about to grab his face, he instinctively dodged backward, not expecting that the sewer opening was a gap with a two-meter drop below.
He swung his axe at the facehugger that had ambushed him, but due to inertia, he fell and landed with his leg crushed before he could adjust his posture.
He's able to sit here now because he crawled up here little by little on his own.
Constantine certainly wouldn't share something so embarrassing with Lin Bei.
He scoffed and gave a vague, perfunctory reply.
Lin Bei had already guessed the general idea, so he didn't press the matter. After Constantine's leg healed, Lin Bei stood up and said, "Let's go, it's time for what you're good at."
Constantine perked up at the idea of being good at it; wasn't this just about going to discuss the rescue costs with those police officers?
Constantine immediately got up, put his hands in his pockets, a cigarette dangling from his mouth, and followed Lin Bei toward the exit with a triumphant air.
Meanwhile, the police outside were still on high alert. They didn't know what was going on in the sewers, nor what kind of accident might happen to the two people who went in.
The open space outside the sewer was deathly silent. The stern-faced officer stood at the front of the crowd with his hands behind his back, staring intently at the sewer outlet.
They had just felt the tremors coming from the sewer, but they didn't dare to go in rashly and could only wait outside.
However, amidst the tremors and the faint roars of monsters, all the police officers present spontaneously began to mourn for the two young men.
The monsters in the sewers are too powerful; they are absolutely beyond human capabilities to resist. Even if that young man was incredibly strong, he is probably already dead at the hands of the monsters.
After the sewers returned to calm, about twenty minutes later, the officer rubbed his temples, mentally sentencing the two men who had gone in to death.
He took a deep breath, composed himself, and slowly said, "Send a small team in to drag the body out."
The police officers looked at each other, nodded in disappointment, and were about to take action when they heard a calm voice coming from the sewer opening.
"A corpse? Where did this corpse come from?"
The police officers present were all stunned, and even the solemn-faced superior looked over in astonishment.
Under the watchful eyes of everyone, Lin Bei led Constantine out of the sewers.
One of them had slightly dirty clothes, and the other was disheveled, but no matter what, they both returned to the crowd unharmed and had not been killed by the monster in the sewer.
The area around the sewer opening was eerily quiet.
The first to react was the solemn-faced officer.
He took a step forward in disbelief, staring intently at Lin Bei and Constantine: "You... how are you still alive? What about the monsters inside? Did you encounter them? Or did you see nothing at all, and then..."
"Didn't see anything? Who are you underestimating?" Lin Bei chuckled, interrupting his superior. "Is it possible that we've already killed all the aliens inside?"
The officer's expression changed drastically: "Impossible! This is absolutely impossible! That monster is incredibly powerful..."
Constantine clicked his tongue and took the cigarette out of his mouth: "If you don't believe me, go inside and take a look. There are monsters everywhere. We haven't eaten anything. Quickly send people in to search. We've helped you solve such a big problem, you should at least show some appreciation."
The officer looked grave. Seeing the two men making such solemn promises and appearing so relaxed, he felt they were liars.
But they did indeed emerge unharmed from the sewers. Before them, no one, whether civilian or police, who went in had ever come out alive.
After a moment's thought, the officer immediately dispatched three small teams to investigate the situation, and ordered them to retreat immediately if any abnormality was detected.
After the police entered, Lin Bei and Constantine did not leave, but followed their superior to a nearby temporary rest area.
Once seated, Lin Bei closed his eyes to rest, while Constantine leaned back in his chair, smoking and waiting for confirmation from the police.
A short while later, someone came in and whispered a few words in the officer's ear. The officer's expression changed drastically, and he looked at Lin Bei and Constantine with disbelief once again.
Constantine, seeing his expression, knew they had searched the sewers thoroughly, so he grinned, tapped the table, and asked, "So, have you confirmed the situation? Are all the monsters dead?"
The officer didn't speak, but stared at them with a serious expression and nodded slowly.
Constantine chuckled, "Alright, then let's have a proper talk. We've helped you solve a major problem, so we should at least show our appreciation, right?" (End of Chapter)
