Lin Bei didn't expect that by randomly choosing a nearby direction with a mysterious power, he would leave the city and arrive in the suburbs.
The so-called outskirts are almost like no man's land. As far as the eye can see, there is yellow sand everywhere, desert and Gobi. A lonely highway lies on this land, running through the horizon where you can't see the end.
Constantine got a used convertible from a friend, and following Lin Bei's instructions, he drove all the way to this desolate area.
Under the blazing sun, only this convertible was driving on the highway. There was no scenery around except for the Gobi Desert. All that could be seen were barren lands and hillsides covered with clumps of withered grass.
Constantine drove with one hand, lit a cigarette with the other, and lazily glanced at Lin Bei in the passenger seat while biting the cigarette butt: "Although I'll listen to you and go wherever you want, at least tell me your destination. Are you just going to drive aimlessly like this? Do you know how far the next city is from us? A full 300 kilometers. Are you trying to kill me with exhaustion?"
Lin Bei was resting with his eyes closed. Hearing Constantine's complaint, he didn't open his eyes but lazily said, "If I tell you to drive, then drive properly and stop complaining. We're almost there."
Front?
Constantine looked up at the desolate scene ahead, his brow furrowed, feeling as if he had been tricked by Lin Bei.
But he didn't dare to continue complaining. Lin Bei's temper wasn't any better than his, and if he kept nagging, he was afraid he'd be thrown off the bus.
Constantine had no intention of hiking in the middle of nowhere, so he had to be extremely patient and continue driving.
However, after the car continued driving for another ten minutes, Lin Bei suddenly opened his eyes: "We're here."
Constantine paused, slamming on the brakes and stopping in the middle of the road: "We're here? Where are we? There isn't even a gas station here. What did you find?"
Constantine looked around, and amidst the devastation, he was startled to see something.
On the right side of a hilly, desert landscape, several vehicles have crashed into a rock face, clearly indicating a horrific accident.
Constantine, a cigarette dangling from his lips, got out of the driver's seat. He stood beside the car, hesitating instead of going over immediately, and said, "The interesting thing you're talking about, it's not this car accident, is it? What's so interesting about a car accident? If you think about it, if I drove you into it, wouldn't that be a car accident too?"
Lin Bei also got out of the car. He leaned against the side of the car and gestured with his chin toward the scene of the accident: "Go check the accident scene. You'll find something."
As they spoke, Lin Bei had already remembered what had happened here.
At first, he was quite puzzled as to why there were some strange forces in this desolate place.
When he finally got here, he remembered, and there really was one.
The Hills Have Eyes
This movie is about a desolate place where there is no way to call for help.
People in this world love car travel, so it's no surprise that this family was involved in a car accident.
To celebrate their wedding anniversary, Bob Carter and his wife Eisel decided to take their whole family on a road trip.
The couple has three children: their eldest daughter is married and has a newborn baby, while their youngest daughter and son are still young. The youngest daughter dislikes the trip, but the youngest son enjoys it.
Also joining the road trip were two German Shepherds named "Beauty" and "Beast." The family of seven plus the two dogs happily began their journey.
Little did they know, halfway through their journey, while camping in a scenic Gobi Desert, an accident occurred.
The scene shows the "beautiful woman" being attracted by something strange, and the youngest son chasing after the dog, only to return to find that something had happened at the campsite.
A group of unknown assassins attacked them, and the family tried to fight back against the assassins lurking in the shadows, but they were no match for them.
They lacked the ruthlessness of the assassins residing in this Gobi Desert, and were destined to be devoured by this group of assassins.
Lin Bei's memories returned, and he glanced at the wrecked cars and campervans in the distance, thinking that it seemed the original plot had changed somewhat.
At least in the original storyline, this family of seven did not get into a car accident.
As for the assassins hiding in the Gobi Desert, Lin Bei knew them all too well.
This group of bloodthirsty killers is actually a group of mutants.
These terrifying mutants are descendants of the miners who once worked here.
However, the nuclear weapons testing site established here by the tyrannical government back then caused the people here to suffer from various degrees of nuclear contamination after repeated nuclear explosions, which ultimately led to this situation.
The mutation caused them pain, and their ugly appearance made it difficult for them to face themselves. Under immense mental pressure, killing became their outlet.
Whenever someone camps in the vicinity, they try every means to drag them back to their territory and then brutally murder them.
Lin Bei thought to himself, it seems that this car accident was deliberately caused by the mutants, and since they have come looking for him, he might as well take care of them.
After all, in this world, besides angels and demons, there are many more people like this gifted, twisted killer.
Just as Lin Bei was pondering this, Constantine, who was inspecting the scene of the car accident, noticed something amiss.
He stared at the tires for a while, then stood up and looked in one direction. After taking a drag of his cigarette, he turned to Lin Bei and gestured with his chin: "You're right, something's wrong with this accident. Someone scattered nails in the middle of the road. There are bullet holes here, signs of a struggle, and someone robbed us."
Lin Bei walked over slowly and looked up in the direction Constantine had initially been looking.
Even with the yellow sand filling the sky and the strong winds whipping up dust, the drag marks and bloodstains on the ground had not yet been concealed.
Lin Bei said calmly, "It's not just a robbery, is it? The person has been taken away, and judging from the signs, it hasn't been more than an hour. Shall we go check it out?"
Constantine said impatiently, "When did you become so kind? Is this any of our business to meddle in?"
Lin Bei shrugged: "I'm in a good mood. Let's go, I'll take you to see some fun things."
Constantine looked at Lin Bei with suspicion, not quite believing that Lin Bei had said "something fun".
Based on his understanding of Lin Bei, this "fun thing" was often him.
But Lin Bei had already started walking along the tracks. Constantine sighed, turned to look at the car parked on the road, scratched his head, and quickly followed Lin Bei.
The Gobi Desert is full of potholes and obstacles, making it impossible for vehicles to enter; you can only walk.
The two walked forward for a while, and when the Gobi Desert ahead became increasingly complex, Lin Bei grabbed Constantine by the back of his collar and leaped to the top of the Gobi Desert.
As soon as he landed, Constantine straightened his collar and complained, "Next time, could you at least tell me in advance so I can be mentally prepared?"
Lin Bei ignored his words and simply tilted his chin down with a nonchalant expression.
Constantine walked over and looked down, his expression changing slightly.
In the intricate Gobi Desert, there is a small town.
Constantine crouched down to examine the town below more closely, only to discover that it was long abandoned. What was so strange about an abandoned town? On this land, there were countless such abandoned towns.
Everyone is flocking to the city; nobody wants to live in a remote, isolated town.
Constantine, smoking a cigarette, calmly stated his words.
Lin Bei's gaze fell on a certain spot in the town, and he said calmly, "That's true, but Constantine, use your almost rusty brain. If it's really been abandoned, why is there bloodstains next to that well in the town?"
Constantine paused, glancing at the well Lin Bei had mentioned.
At a glance, Constantine frowned, his face filled with disgust: "Damn it, this is disgusting. That's just bloodstains? There's half a person's corpse there too. What on earth is hidden here? How could someone... be left hanging halfway down the well?"
Lin Bei remained silent, but grabbed Constantine's collar again, leaped, and landed lightly on the edge of the well.
As Constantine said, this scene was indeed disgusting to ordinary humans.
The right half of a woman's body was hung at the mouth of a well as a rag, with drops of blood falling into the well and creating red ripples.
Judging from the cut, it was ripped apart, and half of the face was distorted, indicating that it was torn in two while the person was still alive.
Now that they were so close, Constantine was disgusted and had to throw away his extinguished cigarette butt and light another one to dispel the pungent smell of blood.
Once Constantine was enveloped in nicotine, he said impatiently, "Is this all you wanted to show me? Please, this isn't fun at all. Are you trying to fool me again?"
Lin Bei shrugged. He released his divine sense and found that their whereabouts had been locked by the local mutants. He then smiled and said, "You're part of this fun thing. Alright, Constantine, stop complaining. Go and find the survivors here, of course, if there are still survivors."
Constantine perked up at the mention of survivors: "Okay, I'll go look for them. If I do find them, maybe I can get them to pay us a large sum for the rescue."
Constantine, with a cigarette dangling from his lips and hands in his pockets, strode away.
Lin Bei watched his figure disappear among the abandoned houses before turning around and looking at a window in the two-story building behind him: "What kind of skill is it to spy? Come down and face me."
As he spoke, Lin Bei raised his hand and activated the power of the Shadow Monarch.
Under the scorching sun, black liquid surged out from Lin Bei's shadow, spreading in all directions like a black spider web.
In the blink of an eye, black liquid covered the entire town.
Lin Bei's eyes darkened slightly, and with a slight movement of his finger, the ground trembled faintly.
As the tremors intensified, the mutated people hiding inside the building screamed in terror and then stumbled out of the house.
Not long after the mutated people ran out, all the houses around Lin Bei started creaking and groaning. The next second, the houses shook, collapsed, and were swallowed up by the black liquid, disappearing completely.
When the earth returned to calm, the surrounding houses were razed to the ground, leaving no shelter whatsoever.
Constantine had initially found a man and a woman barely alive in a house, but after noticing the ground trembling and the black liquid all over the outside, he cursed and dragged them out of the house, throwing them to the ground.
After the houses collapsed and were swallowed by the black liquid, Constantine stood in the black liquid, gazing at Lin Bei, who was surrounded by countless figures in the distance.
Constantine lit another cigarette, glanced at the still-living men and women, and stood there smoking: "Hmph, consider yourself lucky. If Lin Bei hadn't come with me, you would probably have been chopped into pieces by these things."
Let's get back to Linbei.
After dealing with the intricate architecture, Lin Bei finally looked up and glanced at the mutants surrounding him.
Calling them "people" is a compliment.
These mutants were truly unsightly, their bodies covered with grape-like tumors, their faces swollen and squeezing their features, and their body shapes varied.
Lin Bei didn't comment on their appearance, but he was more curious about why, as mutants, their limbs and physical strength should be weaker than humans.
But why do these mutants each possess superhuman strength, easily tearing a person apart?
Lin Bei curiously observed the mutant, and the mutant was also observing Lin Bei.
Mutants have little thought and act solely on instinct.
At that moment, there was an unarmed person in front of them, and they wanted to pounce on him, beat him to the ground, torture him, listen to his pig-like screams, and then tear him apart.
Blood and violence are the ways these mutants vent their frustrations and survive.
They've stopped countless cars and killed countless people; all they know is that it's not enough, they can't kill enough.
Even Lin Bei, standing right in front of them, could easily wipe them all out.
But the mutants don't care.
They felt no fear, nor did they back down, let alone the fact that this person had destroyed their home; they were even more determined to tear him to pieces.
The mutated humans had fierce expressions as they stared intently at Lin Bei, slowly circling around him.
Lin Bei raised an eyebrow, realizing they were planning to ambush him, so he generously revealed an opening.
The moment the opening was revealed, a glint flashed in the eyes of three of the mutants, and they pounced on Lin Bei's back at the same time.
The other mutants clapped and screamed when they saw this, partly to attract Lin Bei's attention and partly to encourage their companions who had launched the sneak attack.
Lin Bei did give them an opening, but he didn't intend to let them get close. He simply turned slightly to the side, just enough to avoid the claws of the three mutants.
After Lin Bei stopped, he looked indifferently at the three tall mutants who had landed in front of him, snorted lightly, and said something casually.
"The flames are blazing."
As soon as he finished speaking, a huge fireball suddenly appeared in mid-air, rolling and causing the already hot environment temperature to rise even further.
The mutants had never seen anything like this before, and most of them were so frightened that they stood frozen in place.
The three tall mutants were the first to react. They could sense the danger posed by the fireball, but they were more interested in subduing Lin Bei.
All three mutants shared this thought. They let out low growls, as if they had a brief communication, before lunging at Lin Bei again.
Lin Bei stood motionless, merely watching the three mutants indifferently.
As if it were sentient, the giant fireball descended from the sky the instant the three mutants moved, engulfing them who were only an arm's length away from Lin Bei.
The three mutants didn't even have a chance to struggle or retreat; the fireball was simply too large, engulfing them completely and leaving them no opportunity to fight back. (End of Chapter)
