Chapter 13 The Indifferent Person
Chapter 13 The Indifferent Person
Kungur Porter is a Faceless Man.
This information was enough, and the moment he entered the House of Black and White for training, his past identity no longer mattered.
He had just killed a water dancer. These magnificent rapier fighters enjoyed a high position in the city of Braavos. But there were always people who wanted their lives.
So Kungur Porter killed him with the Water Dancer's own sword.
After sacrificing this water dancer, who seemed to be drunk by outsiders, fell into the ditch and was stabbed to death by his own sword, to the Thousand-Faced God.
The Faceless Man heard the call in his sleep.
So he returned to the House of Black and White and sought answers from his mentor, the acolyte of the Thousand-Faced God, "The Indifferent Man".
"Someone will tell you everything he knows."
The indifferent man lowered his head and hid his decayed face under his hood.
"The Faceless Men descended from the slaves of the Valyrian Freehold, the same people who forged the city beneath one's feet."
When the indifferent man raised his head again, the face under the hood was an ordinary Loyna face.
"The Dragon Kings used magic to drive slaves to work forever under the volcano. They almost hollowed out the Fourteen Fire Peaks, which angered the Fiery Fire because under the Fire Peaks was the source of the Fiery Fire. The Dragon Kings used fire magic to constantly resurrect slaves who died in the flames. They were in too much pain, so they longed for a death of grace, and thus the first Faceless Man was born. The Thousand-Faced Death brought true death to the suffering slaves. Someone's faith and someone's skills appeared outside the sight of the Dragon Kings."
The cold man stood up and walked slowly around Kungur, his voice emotionless. "This is our history, but there is another angle to this history." He continued slowly in High Valyrian. "There are wise men among the dragon kings. The powerful fire wizards and blood wizards discovered the danger hidden in the Fourteen Fire Peaks, so they chose to betray their group."
The hooded man turned to Kungur's, and this time, he wore a Valyrian face.
Silver hair fell in front of violet eyes.
"Several dragon kings secretly released a group of slaves and taught them how to break fire magic. Then, with the cooperation of the dragon kings, these slaves began to bring true death to other people."
This time, there was nothingness under the hood.
"The Thousand-Faced God is pleased to see this." The indifferent man walked around Kungur devoutly. "So he also bestowed his grace. Helping these slaves to advance their secret plans. But the dragon kings will eventually discover these tricks. So with the help of those dragon kings, many slaves successfully escaped from Valyria, and they eventually came to the swamps and lands under someone's feet."
"Braavos was founded, and those who mastered the gifts of God and the magic taught by the Dragon Kings established the Faceless Men."
Seeing Kungur's confused look, the indifferent man walked up to him and put his hand on his shoulder.
“The dragon kings who once helped the Faceless Man have paid their rewards. Now it is the Faceless Man’s turn to return the favor.” The indifferent man stared at Kungur’s eyes with a blank face.
"The music of the earth and the river has ended, and the song of ice and fire is about to begin. The gods pluck the strings and use mortals as notes. Everything should be a foregone conclusion. But the musicians who want to change the music have already entered the game. Blood and fire, bronze and silver, smoke and salt, even the faceless ones cannot escape unscathed."
"Someone will go to the east," Kungur murmured. "But someone cannot guarantee that he will find his target."
"No need to worry." The cold man fished a coin out of the poisonous pool. "Go to Auris Silasmire, the Sea King's advisor. He will sail to Lys tomorrow."
The indifferent man said, "Someone will eventually reach the goal, as God wills."
Vareses' fleet performed very well on the battlefield. They successfully annihilated no less than ten pirate fleets in the Summer Sea. The pirate fleet commanded by Sarlak Lohar, the pirate king of Lys, was intercepted by Vareses' fleet. 22 warships under Sarlak were sunk and 10 warships were captured. The embarrassed pirate king fled the battlefield in a small boat.
After defeating Sarlak's fleet, Varese's fleet sailed north and once again defeated the Tri-Cities Alliance's privateering fleet, forcing the fleet commander to raise the white flag and release the Volantis merchant ships they had captured.
After completing all this, the Vareses fleet suddenly turned eastward and sailed towards the Slave Bay, apparently chasing a Reese slave fleet whose escort warship had just been sunk.
It was also at this time that the "Silent Lord", "Crying Boy" and "Swordfish" separated from the main force and sailed north.
Their destination is simple.
Sea of smoke.
The ruins of Valyria.
The Doomsday Catastrophe destroyed almost everything. The former Valyria Peninsula was blasted into pieces by the disaster. Thick smoke that could cover the sun rose all day long. It is said that the water in the Sea of Smoke is poisonous. The boiling sea water and poisonous smoke can make any ship that enters it never return. In the legends of sailors, terrible sea monsters live in the depths of the Sea of Smoke.
Everything is warning sailors not to approach this cursed sea.
"The legend makes sense." Longzel held up the map drawn by his father and spread it out solemnly. Even though he was still some distance away from the sea of smoke, he could still smell the sulfur in the air and the rich, intoxicating smell of magic.
He had never felt his blood so active as it did today.
"Just approaching this sea, I smell an ominous smell." Zhesar Shadowweaver limped and looked at the black smoke rising in the distance. The sea also turned a dirty color.
They gathered on the "Lord of Silence" to discuss their next move.
"This place is full of magic, my lord." The red-robed monk Malach said excitedly. His voice had not yet fully recovered, and now he could only rely on his hands to express his meaning clearly. "I can feel the excitement of the flames. This is probably where the King of Light was born."
The red-robed monk said this while gesticulating with joy.
"Everyone listen." Longzel motioned for everyone to be quiet. "This sea area is full of curses, just as we expected." He pointed to the route drawn on the map. "We don't have enough magical materials to protect the big ship. The big ship can only approach the edge of the sea of smoke at most. Then we will take a small boat to our destination."
Longzel motioned to Hoffa to bring a box over, and Hoffa with golden eyes meticulously placed a box on the table.
Thirty glass tubes were neatly arranged in the box, filled with red liquid with silver threads.
"My blood combined with my father's runes can effectively resist the erosion of the curse." Longzel pushed the blood tube to everyone.
"I need fifteen people," Longzel said. "Fifteen brothers who can live and die with me."
