Chapter 141 A Stubborn Man?
Midnight,

Shen Anzhi huddled in the haystack of the woodshed, looking extremely depressed. Even with money, this was the only place she could live; there wasn't a single other house for miles around. It was truly unbelievable…

Before she knew it, Anzhi, holding the warm little bundle of joy, drifted into a light sleep.

However, a gust of cold wind blew by, and she was suddenly awakened by the cold.

She shivered and slowly opened her eyes. The temperature in the woodshed seemed even lower. The woodshed door and windows, which had been tightly closed, were blown open, and gusts of biting cold wind blew in. She hugged Tuantuan even tighter.

Just as Shen Anzhi was about to close the door to the woodshed and the only window, she suddenly smelled a pungent odor of smoke. Startled, she looked up and saw thick smoke billowing from the cowshed around the corner, with flames shooting into the sky.

Fire!

She quickly braved the biting cold wind to reach the cowshed. Fortunately, the fire wasn't too big; it was just a bundle of straw that caught fire.

Anzhi was about to grab a bucket to pour water on it, but remembering the old woman's attitude today, he immediately put down the bucket and shouted into the house, "Grandma, your cowshed is on fire!"

After saying that, Anzhi prepared to return to the thatched hut on her own. However, when she arrived at the door, the old lady inside did not turn on the light or make a sound. Feeling conflicted, she looked at the burning haystack again.

To be honest, considering the old lady's attitude and behavior towards him during the day, Shen Anzhi really wanted to ignore it, but if he didn't help her, the whole thatched house would probably be burned down tomorrow.

"How did this fire start in such cold weather?" Shen Anzhi asked, puzzled. He took a bucket, filled it with ice-cold water from a nearby ditch, and splashed it onto the flames.

This splash of water had a surprising effect; the fire actually flared up, leaving Anzhi completely bewildered.

Just as Shen Anzhi was frantically trying to put out the fire, the old woman rushed over. Upon seeing the raging fire and the busy Shen Anzhi, she started to berate him loudly without even asking what happened: "Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear, you wicked person! It's just a few pieces of silver! You, you actually tried to set the fire! I'll give it to you, I'll give it to you!"

Upon hearing this, Shen Anzhi's eyes widened in shock, his face filled with disbelief. "Old man, how can you talk nonsense? I just discovered the fire; I was putting it out!"

An Zhi continued to loudly defend himself while splashing water with a bucket.

The old woman wouldn't listen to her explanation at all and continued to shout, "Oh dear, I'm scared of you now, girl. It's all my fault, I'm so desperate that I did something stupid. Here's your money back, you can leave tomorrow, you can leave now."

Shen Anzhi trembled with anger. She never expected that her act of kindness in helping to put out the fire would be met with such baseless accusations. "Old woman, I'll say it again, I didn't start the fire. Don't make false accusations."

After saying that, he poured another bucket of water heavily onto the fire, and the fire was finally extinguished.

The old woman said, "I really shouldn't have taken you in. I never expected you to be so heartless, bullying an old woman like me and even trying to burn down my house. I never thought you were so petty..."

The old woman's relentless, sharp voice finally woke up the panda Tuan Tuan who was sleeping in the woodshed.

Tuantuan stood up sleepily, a flash of anger appearing in its little eyes. It toddled quickly toward the old lady, making disgruntled whimpering noises.

"Tuanbao, no."

Anzhi reacted too slowly; Tuantuan suddenly stretched out her little paw and pushed the old lady hard. Caught off guard, the old lady was pushed and fell to the ground.

"Ouch, ouch, ouch! This beast is hurting me! Help!" The old woman rolled around on the ground.

Shen Anzhi was also stunned by the scene, but she quickly came to her senses. She rushed over, picked up Tuantuan, and whispered, "Tuantuan, how could you... you can't hurt people."

Tuantuan squirmed in Shen Anzhi's arms and whispered, "She's a bad girl."

“She, she…” Anzhi didn’t know how to describe the old lady, so he quickly carried Tuantuan into the woodshed and then turned around to help the old lady.

The atmosphere grew tense in the cold night. The old woman, helped up, looked at Shen Anzhi and the Iron-Eating Beast loitering at the woodshed door, her body trembling slightly. She recalled being pushed down by the panda and was filled with lingering fear. She hadn't expected the Iron-Eating Beast to be so protective of its master. She began to worry that Shen Anzhi might retaliate against her for her slander.

The wind was still blowing, and a cold atmosphere filled the air.

"Grandma, go back to sleep." Although Shen Anzhi still felt wronged and angry about being slandered, he couldn't help but feel a little sorry for the old lady who was shivering in the cold wind and looked scared.

Faced with Anzhi's help, the old lady dared not speak anymore. She kept glancing at the iron-eating beast in the woodshed, and followed Anzhi back into the house.

After closing the door, Anzhi couldn't help but chuckle to himself. This kind of shamelessness only needed the Iron-Eating Beast to deal with it, and it was done in an instant.

……

In the early morning, a light dust filled the woodshed, which, under the sunlight, seemed like dancing sprites.

Shen Anzhi pushed open the door to the woodshed and looked out the window at the world gradually awakening. Her eyes still revealed a hint of contemplation, as the events of last night left her with lingering emotions.

Tuantuan rolled around at her feet, seemingly having forgotten the tense atmosphere of the previous night.

Anzhi searched the yard, but the old lady was nowhere to be found.

"It's alright if we can't find it, Tuanbao, let's go."

Shen Anzhi held a long sword, and behind him, he swayed and staggered as he walked toward the ferry.

A gentle breeze blew by, carrying a fresh scent. Shen Anzhi's hair swayed gently in the wind, and she would occasionally turn back to look at Tuantuan, who was daydreaming as she walked.

Upon arriving at Muyun Ferry, Shen Anzhi stopped, gazing at the vast expanse of water before her and the rising sun in the distance. Her heart was filled with emotion, as if she had finally ushered in a beautiful dawn after a long nightmare.

Just as Anzhi was quietly waiting for the boatman to arrive, an old woman and a burly man walked aggressively toward them from not far away. The burly man was carrying a carrying pole in his hand: "Was it that beast who hit my mother?"

The old woman suddenly looked fierce: "Yes, that iron-eating beast. Last night, that girl even tried to burn down our house."

The burly man stood menacingly in the courtyard. Without saying a word, he raised the carrying pole in his hand and began to strike Tuan Tuan.

"Stop!" Shen Anzhi was shocked and immediately protected Tuantuan.

"This beast dared to hurt my mother! I'll teach him a lesson!" the burly man roared and swung his club forward.

Faced with the sudden danger, Tuantuan did not avoid it, but instead ran headlong into it, waving its little paws in an attempt to fend off the strong man's carrying pole attack.

The burly man gritted his teeth, raised the stick, and slammed it down hard, making a dull thud as it hit the ground.

Taking advantage of the opportunity, Tuantuan pounced on the strong man, biting his trouser leg and pulling hard. The strong man was furious and tried to kick Tuantuan away, but Tuantuan held on tightly and wouldn't let go, her small body twisting and turning.

"Tuantuan, Tuantuan, stop!"

Anzhi struggled to separate Tuantuan and the strong man, but she found that Tuantuan was lying motionless on the ground.

"Tuanbao? Tuantuan."

An ominous premonition enveloped her, and Anzhi's heart sank to the bottom. She quickly knelt on the ground and hugged Tuantuan in her arms, but no matter how she called out to her, Tuantuan did not respond.
