From the end of the world
Chapter 411 Eve 3
Chapter 411 Eve 3
After thinking about it, Yuchi said, "First of all, you have a misunderstanding. The longer the Great Impermanence lives, the more connections he will make. Because the Great Impermanence is a lofty and sacred being, there are not many people who are qualified to make connections with him.
"This is just like the superiors in secular society. The higher the status and the greater the authority, the harder it is to make real friends. Power will twist the feelings of people around you like a whirlpool. In this state, even if you make a connection, it is likely to be a shallow and fragile connection, and it is difficult to become a force that anchors the self.
"Rather, as time goes by, the connections of Da Wu Chang are getting fewer and fewer. Because of his long life span, the people around him cannot keep up with him, so the deep connections that Da Wu Chang made during his growth period will gradually disappear. After all the worldly connections are gone, Da Wu Chang will become a lonely person."
Mr. Zhu never told me about this matter... But it's true. Although the Zhu family had a Great Impermanence in their ancestor, Zhu Yi didn't live for long. Not long after becoming the Great Impermanence, he and other descendants of Liangyi challenged Shan Liangyi, and were defeated and died.
I turned to ask, "Then...what about the divine marriage ceremony? I heard that the divine marriage can allow the Great Impermanence and the spouse to establish a fate and share the fate that the other party has...Is this practice not possible?"
"In the divine marriage ceremony, the one who is offered to the god is more of a living sacrifice than a spouse of the god. There is often a huge gap between the two parties. Of course, your situation may be different." Yuchi looked at me curiously, "Do you want to marry Zhu Shi from the Zhu family? If you regard him as an equal to yourself, then the divine marriage ceremony is very useful. The other great impermanence may not have the same mentality as you."
"In other words, the general Great Impermanence will eventually fall into a situation where there is no fate to be found?" I felt that this statement was unreliable. "But doesn't the Great Impermanence still have a strong bond with the believers? Even if the anchor provided by the believers is a little unreliable, the Great Impermanence should still have a few reliable bonds, right? For example, offspring or something.
"Moreover, the Great Impermanence in history should not rely entirely on the power of fate to anchor themselves. As for their own anchoring status, I think they can definitely find more ways to anchor themselves in this world. It is impossible that so many Great Impermanence in history were lost because of the lack of fate, right?"
Yuchi sighed and said, "You are right, but, as the saying goes, 'No matter how many defenses you have, you can't guard against a thief in your own home.' No matter how many methods the Great Impermanence uses to anchor himself, he can't prevent the Great Impermanence from actively entering a state of loss."
His words made me stunned: "What did you say?"
Actively entering a state of loss... would the Great Impermanence do this? And judging from his tone, it wasn't just one or two Great Impermanence who did that... but many of them?
I couldn't help but look at the dark Tallinn in the distance again.
"I wonder if you have heard of the concept of 'disgust'?" Yuchi asked.
I nodded and realized it at the same time.
Yuchi mentioned a Buddhist term, aversion, which is the feeling of disgust and indifference towards the secular world. Buddhism emphasizes transcendence and requires believers to give up material desires for the secular world, and aversion is regarded as the first stage of seeking the truth.
In order to stimulate the believers' disgust, some Buddhist scriptures will try to describe the ugliness of worldly materials to the believers. If the believers are greedy for beauty, they will be told the truth of the skeleton. Some will reveal the ugliness of the flesh to the believers in the form of pictures instead of words, allowing them to see the horrible process of the human body rotting into bones after death, such as the famous "Nine Phases Picture". After reading it, the believers will inevitably feel disgusted with their own flesh and yearn for the realm of the mind.
Only with the aversion can one generate the renunciation mind, and only with the renunciation mind can one generate the bodhicitta. This is a gradual process of spiritual practice and seeking the truth.
And through this hint, I perhaps also understood what it meant for Da Wuchang to actively enter a state of loss.
Da Wuchang is a super being at the top of this world, with an inexhaustible lifespan. Violence, power, wealth, fame... most of the things that mortals dream of are all within reach for Da Wuchang.
According to legend, before becoming a monk, Sakyamuni was a prince of the Kshatriya caste in ancient India. After witnessing the birth, aging, illness and death of people, he developed a dislike for the world and had the urge to become a monk. There is also a saying that the reason why Sakyamuni could give up his status and power without any regrets was because he had enjoyed all the glory and wealth and had long lost his obsession with material desires.
After repeatedly satisfying their desires, they will naturally grow bored with the outside world. There are few people who can stand on equal footing with them, and they have basically enjoyed everything they can enjoy. The world is like a single-player game that they have experienced almost enough, and it is time to graduate from it. Although there may be a few things that they have not done, the attraction of the outside world to them is undoubtedly decreasing dramatically.
Take Shenzhao for example. Although he is still pursuing to open the third door, it is more of a process of competing with himself. The outside world has been of little help to him, and fate cannot make him stronger. Therefore, he does not care about transcendence and hegemony, and lacks a sense of companionship. He does not care how many demon hunters who participated in the same battlefield with him died. He probably has developed a dislike for the outside world and has developed a tendency to lose himself.
"The Great Impermanence can change the people and things around it just by thinking, so once the Great Impermanence develops aversion, no matter how many methods it has set up to prevent loss, it will be difficult to stop this process." Yuchi said, "Besides, some Great Impermanence may not even think of stopping it.
"Under different values, the same thing will be interpreted differently. In secular society, reverie may be interpreted by psychology as world-weariness, a negative and escapist emotion; from the perspective of mysticism, reverie is the beginning of enlightenment and becoming a Buddha, a positive and sober state of mind.
"But in the eyes of many of Da Wuchang's believers, Da Wuchang's loss is not necessarily a bad thing. In ancient times, Da Wuchang was also called a 'human god,' and the process of becoming a lost Da Wuchang was seen as a sublimation from a personal god to a natural god, a sacred evolution, or deification. They believe that Da Wuchang's disappearance is entering a dark dimension, and that he has transformed from a 'human god' into a true 'immortal god.'" When he said the latter, his voice seemed a little sarcastic.
Lu Chan's previous emphasis on "there is a problem with the anchoring of fate provided by the believers" may have this factor. As a believer group that provides fate anchoring for the Great Impermanence, they actually expect the Great Impermanence to lose its anchoring.
Gua Tianshi said that he was the Great Impermanence who had existed from ancient times to the present. He must have witnessed the loss and death of many Great Impermanences, but he himself did not feel disgusted or lost in the world. He must have still had an extremely strong attachment to the outside world.
Looking at Yuchi's attitude, I asked, "Do you think differently from them?"
"I had the same idea a long time ago. However, my wife became the Great Impermanence, and I certainly don't want her to become the Lost Great Impermanence..." Yuchi looked at the Great Impermanence Tomb in the distance, "But, who knows..."
Sadness and hatred appeared in his eyes.
Afterwards, the funeral ceremony began.
Perhaps because there are real corpse resurrections in the weird world, Luoshan’s funeral culture is based on cremation; and considering that most of the dead in battle did not even have their remains recovered, the funeral ceremony also changed the parting of the body. One after another, mini coffins were brought in, most of which contained the dead’s belongings, and a few contained ashes.
Gua Tianshi praised the dead soldiers who participated in the battle of the Humanitarian Division's headquarters on the stage. Everyone paid tribute and condolences to them, and then the urns were placed under the tombstone.
Although the Humanitarian Department has been destroyed, Luoshan still has three major troubles. In the past, it was the Humanitarian Department, Taoyuan Township, and Xuanming believers, and now it is the Void Realm, Taoyuan Township, and Xuanming believers.
After the ceremony, Gua Tianshi left the ceremony site, and everyone left one after another. Yuchi privately expressed his feelings to me: "...Who would have thought that nearly half of the Void Realm Apostles would be mixed into this funeral ceremony."
As he said this, he glanced in the direction of Shenzhao. Unbeknownst to him, Shenzhao had already left.
"The virtual world meeting should be starting soon, we'll see each other then," he said.
"See you then," I said.
After saying goodbye to Fa Zheng and Jian Feixian, I headed to the dark tower forest in the distance, wanting to see the tombstones of the great impermanence of all generations. The tomb area of the great impermanence has supreme sacredness in Luoshan. Even the great impermanence has no right to enter and exit freely under normal circumstances. But I am the great impermanence, so I can enter if I want.
Under these huge tombstones that are as big as tall buildings, there is basically no real remains or ashes of the Great Impermanence. The lost Great Impermanence will naturally not leave any remains, and the few Great Impermanence who died in battle generally do not leave any remains either.
I also saw the well-known tombstone of Da Wuchang in the tombstone group. Fu Hongchen, who was burned to death by Xuanming, and Qilin, who was beaten to death by the old fist god... There were also empty spaces under these tombstones. On the battlefield of Da Wuchang, those who died in battle often did not even leave their ashes.
Some tombstones are still ownerless for the time being. Luo Shan seems to have erected tombstones in advance for the yet-to-die Great Impermanence, just like the ancient emperors who would build tombs before they died.
Building a tombstone for the immortal Great Impermanence in advance sounds like a curse, but Luoshan was originally a force with a strong culture of death. Its headquarters used to be located in the afterlife, and Great Impermanence was regarded as the god of the afterlife. The tombstones built for them in advance are not curses in Luoshan culture, but have sacred and noble symbolic meanings.
I saw a familiar figure among the dark tombstones. Shen Zhao was standing there, looking at those huge blank tombstones with an inexplicable gaze.
He seemed to sense my gaze, so he turned around and looked at me from a distance, but he didn't say a word. He just glanced at the tombstones again and then disappeared.
