Chapter 277 Strange Bird
As soon as Nietzsche spoke, all the squads in the entire group rushed towards the pond filled with rubble in the distance.
But when I got closer, I realized it wasn't a pond at all, but just a semi-transparent, 3D projection. Upon closer inspection, it seemed to be the ruins of some kind of battlefield. Through the projection, I could clearly see the water on the ground, which is why it looked like a pond from a distance. I just didn't know where the projected scene actually was.
Even stranger, when a player simply touched the projection lightly, it suddenly disappeared.
The player was startled: "Oh no! I messed up!"
Nietzsche comforted her, "It's alright, I've been recording the screen the whole time, we can study it later, let's continue!"
As she spoke, she pulled her team of players and continued walking inside.
The jade-carved floor seemed to stretch endlessly, with visibility around it limited to only about ten meters. Beyond that, there was only a vast expanse of white fog, and nothing could be seen.
There are no directions here, no hills or valleys, and apart from the collapsed stone pillars at the entrance, there is nothing to mark the way.
The further you go, the more the scenery around you becomes, all covered in white mist. Looking back, you can no longer even see the original few stone pillars.
After walking for about three or four minutes, everyone finally saw a different view – the edge of the collapsed ground.
The first thing you see is a broken jade floorboard, the break smooth and clean, as if it had been chopped off by something. Even more astonishing is that there is no soil beneath the floorboards, nor any support, as if these floorboards are floating in the air.
When everyone arrived at the location of the broken floor, they finally saw the blurry jungle in the distance.
However, the jungle was at a low point, while the players seemed to be standing on a mountaintop. From there, they could overlook the entire forest, but the white mist blocked their view.
One player suggested, "Why don't we go down and take a look? This doesn't seem like a projection or an illusion!"
Everyone else thought the same thing, so they all rode the wind and jumped down.
Just as everyone had flown a few meters away, the white mist suddenly disappeared. The world seemed to clear up, the view became incredibly wide, the lush forests below became much clearer, and looking further into the distance, mountains and rivers were all in sight.
Just as everyone was flying and looking around curiously, a headless, strange bird suddenly darted out of the forest!
The strange bird had wings that were several meters long, a messy tail, and several bald patches of feathers. Its head looked as if it had been chopped off, and green fluid was oozing from the wound on its neck. It looked disgusting and eerie.
The strange bird flew in a very strange way; its wings did not flap back and forth like those of normal birds, but were always stretched straight out like those of an airplane.
In this situation, even a fool could see that the perpetrators were up to no good, and the players all used their unique abilities, throwing talismans, spells, and attack skills at the strange bird without restraint.
Nothing could stop the strange bird's speed. The lightning talismans struck it like tickles, doing nothing to slow it down. A fireball thrown by someone ignited it, but all that could be seen was that it had turned into a "firebird" and charged forward, seemingly oblivious to its presence.
Seeing this, Nietzsche's expression turned serious. He shouted "Scatter!" in the clump of wheat as he charged forward, brandishing his sword and unleashing a barrage of sword energy. But the chilling sword energy struck the strange bird as if it were striking metal or stone; all that could be heard was the sound of striking a hard object, and it didn't even break through the bird's fur!
"Get out of the way! Let me handle this—"
A bald player excitedly rushed forward, waving his fists and pounding the strange bird's chest a dozen times.
This time it finally had some effect; at least the strange bird stopped charging forward and instead, like a cannonball, kept colliding with the bald player.
The strange bird's movements were incredibly stiff, and it could have easily dodged the attack. However, the bald player was none other than Wu Ke, a renowned physical cultivator who had been recruited by Nietzsche with great effort. He was also the highest-ranking and strongest player in the entire Haoqi Changcun community. As a physical cultivator, Wu Ke had a unique understanding of the word "reckless." He constantly clashed with the strange bird, combining punches and kicks with his attacks. The slow-moving strange bird simply couldn't keep up with the speed of Wu Ke's punches and kicks, and could only passively take the beating. Others couldn't even get a chance to intervene, and the other players didn't even dare to use their skills anymore, for fear of accidentally injuring their teammates.
The whole scene was incredibly violent, looking like Wu Ke was unilaterally beating up a strange bird, except...
"But boss, your health bar seems to be constantly decreasing..."
The only alchemist in the team couldn't help but speak up in the team mic.
"Yada—ah! Ooh ooh ah—"
Wu Ke was still yelling, his face flushed red, his expression excited, and his eyes were bulging. He was clearly addicted to the thrill of the battle and couldn't extricate himself from the visceral pleasure of each punch. He didn't care about his teammates' words at all and just focused on unleashing his furious attacks.
The support player in the team stared at the strange bird for a while, then said, "And isn't it a dead bird?"
Nietzsche shouted, "Fahai! Stop fighting it! It's pointless! Your health is almost gone!"
"Fahai" is Wu Ke's stage name. Although Wu Ke has a real name, due to his unique aesthetic sense, eerie temperament, and his love of fighting, people generally feel that calling him "Fahai" sounds more endearing, since calling him "bald" is more likely to cause ambiguity...
Wu Ke still listens to Nietzsche's words.
He reluctantly stopped punching and kicking and landed on the spot—his mana bar was running low, and he couldn't withstand the drain of flying in the air.
The strange bird didn't chase after them, and it's unclear whether the bird was truly dead. In any case, after being beaten for so long, it was covered in broken feathers, yet it still stupidly charged at Nietzsche and the others.
Seeing that the strange bird was too troublesome, Nietzsche gestured for everyone to land and take cover.
The players looked at each other and landed on the ground one after the other, while the strange bird turned and crashed into the ground as well.
One of the alchemy players in the team complained, "This thing is so persistent! It's disgusting!"
The weapon repair player offered a suggestion: "Since there are plenty of trees here, if all else fails, we can try some serpentine maneuvers to see if we can trap it somewhere. After all, it doesn't seem to be very bright..."
The mage player chimed in with a sarcastic remark: "It seems like it doesn't even have a head, does it?"
"Is it not allowed for people to have invisible brains?"
"I've only ever heard of invisible wings..."
However, before anyone could say another word, the strange bird, which had just approached the ground, was suddenly bound tightly by several thick vines that emerged from the soil. They then dragged it into the mud and disappeared in the blink of an eye.
If it weren't for the few broken feathers scattered on the ground, everyone would have thought that everything just now was an illusion!
"Gudong..."
One player swallowed hard, his voice trembling, and cautiously asked into the team mic, "What... what was that thing just now?!" (End of Chapter)
