Chapter 162 Cutting Off an Ear as a Warning

Liang Jiang exposed her, saying, "You ordered your men to work together from the inside to intercept the Empress Dowager's birthday gifts from Prince Xie and present them to my junior uncle. Isn't your plan to use the court to get rid of my junior uncle?"

"I have never met Baili Shouyue before, and we have no grudges against each other."

Liang Jiang narrowed her eyes slightly: "You mean to say that this matter has nothing to do with you? But isn't the person who instigated this matter your confidant, Tong Shouliang? My junior uncle followed him into your military camp and heard with his own ears that you sent him to Xiliang to deliver a message to Huyan Chao."

"You're saying he started this whole thing?"

Seeing the genuine surprise on his face, Liang Jiang was filled with suspicion: "Now that things have come to this, your crimes are neither more nor less, so there's no need for you to deny them, is there? If it weren't for your instructions, how could a mere soldier have the audacity to steal the birthday offerings and frame the Demon Lord?"

Tong Shouliang sneered: "If you say so, then so be it. But the harm shouldn't extend to my wife and daughter. I'm the only one who dares to do this, and it has nothing to do with Zhao'er and her daughter."

"Even you, Tong Shouliang, have moments of fear! When my father and thousands of vanguard soldiers were isolated and helpless in the Great Rift Valley, at the mercy of others, did you ever think about what would happen to his wife and children?"

Tong Shouliang fell silent.

"The victor is king, the loser is villain. Today I have fallen into your hands, and I have nothing to say."

Although Liang Jiang didn't know what had happened before she arrived, or how Fang Chengxu could possibly be a match for Tong Shouliang and subdue him, it was a fact.

She said to Fang Chengxu, "Lord Fang was able to put aside his own family for the greater good and rid the people of a scourge. He truly deserves our respect. Liangjiang admires him."

Fang Chengxu offered a proactive explanation: "He walked right into our trap and came here to visit Tong Zhao'er. I took advantage of his unpreparedness and managed to succeed. I am honored to be able to do my part for the Duke of Liang."

"I will return to the palace to report back and request commendation for Lord Fang."

"I am very pleased that Mr. Fang was able to make amends for his mistakes, and I dare not take credit for it."

Liang Jiang turned to leave when a mournful cry came from inside the house.

"father!"

Tong Zhao'er snapped out of her dizziness, broke free from the servants, and stumbled out, tripping over the threshold.

Fang Chengxu rushed forward to help her up, but Tong Zhao'er shoved him away: "Get out of here! My father has treated you well, and you actually plotted to capture him to please this woman. Fang Chengxu, you're a beast!"

Fang Chengxu remained silent.

Tong Zhao'er struggled to her feet and lunged forward, crying, "Let my father go!"

The guards stepped forward to stop her, but Fang Chengxu grabbed her and said, "Ah Zhao, calm down. This is the Emperor's decree!"

Tong Zhao'er was almost hysterical. She struggled and turned around to scratch Fang Chengxu's face, leaving several bloody marks.

He started hysterically cursing.

Grandma Fang and Fang Yuan also chased after her. Seeing her throwing a tantrum, they swung their arms and slapped her across the face without hesitation.

"You still think you're the young lady of the General's Mansion? Don't you think Chengxu has been dragged down by your General's Mansion enough? Your father deserves what he got for his own actions!"

This slap directly enraged Tong Shouliang. How could a mere chain possibly restrain his heart that loves his daughter?
He chopped at the wrist of the guard beside him with a chop, and the guard felt a numbness, causing his sword to slip from his hand.

The next moment, Tong Shouliang flicked his toe, and the sword flew directly towards Old Madam Fang.

Fang Chengxu was taken aback, but he was entangled with Tong Zhao'er and couldn't free his hands at all. He could only watch helplessly as the long sword flew past his mother's temple.

Blood splattered instantly. The sword was fast and sharp. Old Mrs. Fang barely felt any pain; when she touched her temple, there was a handful of blood, and half of her ear was gone.

She then screamed in terror, "Ah! Murder!"

Tong Shouliang laughed arrogantly, his eyes flashing with malice: "I, Tong Shouliang, was truly blind to have married my pampered daughter into your Fang family. When we were powerful and wealthy, your whole family fawned over us like dogs. Now that my Tong family is in trouble, you betray us, you are worse than animals!"
"I cut off my ear today as a warning; if anyone dares to bully my daughter in the future, I will kill them without mercy!"

Grandma Fang, enraged, suddenly found unprecedented courage and pointed at Tong Shouliang, launching into a tirade of abuse:
"You are now a prisoner, a damned traitor, yet you still dare to be so arrogant! I will have Chengxu divorce your daughter right now, and I will have the princess chop off your head right now!"

She wanted to curse again, but Fang Chengxu felt ashamed and scolded, "I will not divorce Zhao'er. What nonsense are you spouting? Hurry up and go back to fetch a doctor!"

Liang Jiang looked at the farce before her and felt only irony and a sense of relief at escaping her misery. She turned around, mounted her horse, and prepared to leave.

Fang Yuan stepped forward and grabbed her horse's reins: "Sister-in-law, my mother is injured. Don't you know medicine? You can't just stand by and watch her die!"

Liang Jiang coldly replied, "Miss Fang Yuan has called the wrong person."

"Fang Yuan has only ever recognized you as her sister-in-law! Who is Tong Zhao'er compared to her? We were all deceived by her back then, which is why we did things that were wrong to you, sister-in-law. I'm sorry, I apologize..."

Liang Jiang grew even more disdainful, using her riding whip to push her hand away: "Not every 'I'm sorry' can be met with 'It's okay,' Miss Fang, there's no need for that!"

Liang Jiang sneered, spurred her horse and rode away, leading her guards to escort Tong Shouliang into the palace.

Behind them, Old Mrs. Fang cried out in pain, one long cry followed by another, and cursed Tong Shouliang and Tong Zhao'er with extremely vicious words.

Fang Yuan angrily scolded the servants for being blind and not knowing to call a doctor.

Tong Zhao'er cried her heart out and stumbled after him for quite a distance before Fang Chengxu persuaded her to stop and took her back.

Liang Jiang didn't even turn her head.

At the palace gate, the Imperial Guards entered to report.

After a while, he came out and said apologetically to Liang Jiang, "Princess Heya, His Majesty is not feeling well today and is resting. We dare not disturb him. Would you like to wait a little longer, or go back first?"

As darkness fell, the palace gates were about to close.

Liang Jiang said, "Since His Majesty is resting, then we will not disturb him. Please inform His Majesty that Tong Shouliang has been arrested and brought to justice, and I will escort him to the Dali Temple prison."

The Imperial Guards readily agreed.

Liang Jiang personally escorted Tong Shouliang to the imperial prison.

Things were going so smoothly that Liang Jiang became somewhat uneasy. She felt that Tong Shouliang was too quiet and compliant, and that he hadn't resisted at all, which seemed a bit abnormal.

She stood guard in front of the prison where Tong Shouliang was imprisoned, and asked the prison warden with concern, "I wonder if the defenses here are properly arranged?"

The jailer said with great certainty, "Princess, please rest assured. Our superiors have repeatedly instructed us to guard the area heavily. Not even a bird will be able to fly out. It's getting late, Princess, please go back."

Liang Jiang nodded, looked around several times to make sure the defenses were tight, and then turned and left the prison.

All that's needed is for the emperor to summon him, for a confrontation in the palace, and then Tong Shouliang can be convicted.
