Chapter 24 Talking about Conscience

Su Xiaoxiao didn't even give her any time to react before rushing in.

He grabbed Li Dongmei's hair and said, "Didn't I not beat you to death last night? Are you itching for a beating?"

Li Dongmei's hair was grabbed by Su Xiaoxiao, rendering her unable to move. She flailed her arms in mid-air, trying to grab Su Xiaoxiao.

Su Xiaoxiao freed one hand and grabbed hers, then forcefully twisted it backward, "Snap!"

Li Dongmei's finger bones were broken, and just then Su Xiaoxiao kicked her knee, knocking Li Dongmei to the ground.

Liu Dazhuang rushed in just in time, "Honey, what's wrong?"

At this moment, Su Xiaoxiao shouted at Liu Dazhuang, "You two broke into my house to steal things and even kicked down my Dabao! Return my things right now!"

Li Dongmei stubbornly refused to pay, saying, "I won't pay!"

Su Xiaoxiao got angry when she heard this, grabbed her other hand and twisted it, almost breaking her fingers.

Li Dongmei screamed in pain. Liu Dazhuang tried to help, but Su Xiaoxiao's fire stick flew towards him and hit him on the head.

A large bump immediately appeared on his head. Enraged, he ran out, picked up his work sickle, and brandished it, ready to charge forward.

Su Xiaoxiao couldn't let this go, so she released Li Dongmei's hand and left her aside for the time being.

Su Xiaoxiao picked up a fire poker from the ground and said to Liu Dazhuang, who was swinging a sickle, "If you don't believe me, come over here today and see if I don't teach you a lesson!"

Liu Dazhuang had no choice. He hadn't gone up to help his wife last night, and Li Dongmei had scolded him for not being a man.

Now Liu Dazhuang's chance to prove himself as a man had come. He hesitated for a moment, then gripped his sickle and charged toward Su Xiaoxiao.

He thought he was holding a sickle, while Su Xiaoxiao only had a stick; he couldn't afford to be at a disadvantage.

As a result, the sickle was too short and couldn't get close enough to Su Xiaoxiao.

With a single move, Su Xiaoxiao knocked the sickle from his hand to the ground with a fire stick. The blow struck his hand, making his thumb feel as if it were about to break. He was in so much pain that he dropped the fire stick to the ground.

Su Xiaoxiao went over and started hitting him from all sides with the stick in her hand, beating him until his face was bruised and swollen and his body was covered in injuries.

Su Xiaoxiao was really ruthless; every move she made targeted vital spots, and they all hurt quite a bit.

Liu Dazhuang was also beaten so badly that he could only lie on the ground groaning, "Stop hitting him! You'll kill him if you keep hitting him!"

Liu Dazhuang's face and body were covered in blood. Su Xiaoxiao knew she had to control her strength. If she used even 80% of her strength, let alone 100%, Liu Dazhuang would have been beaten to death by Su Xiaoxiao today.

"We're returning those things to you, now let's just leave, okay?"

If Li Dongmei saw her husband Liu Dazhuang being beaten like this, he would really be beaten to death.

She hurriedly handed over all the things she had just snatched from Su Xiaoxiao's house.

Su Xiaoxiao then stopped. She counted them, and nothing was missing.

Li Dongmei was still very unwilling to give up, saying, "Su Xiaoxiao, you made so much money selling that tiger meat, and you won't even give me a single tiger bone. Do you have any conscience?"

Su Xiaoxiao narrowed her eyes. "So that's why you came to our house to steal things?"

"You're still talking to me about conscience?"

"Look what you've done to our Dazhuang!"

Li Dongmei touched Liu Dazhuang's injuries with heartache; her own hand had almost been broken. "I'm telling you, I risked my life to get this tiger myself; it has nothing to do with you. Did you go to help?"

One sentence left the couple speechless.

"When you have something delicious to eat, do you ever think about us, the three of us? I think you're just thinking about how to sell us, aren't you?"

Su Xiaoxiao looked around their kitchen, where a preserved duck was drying on the kitchen awning, and it looked pretty good.

"You have such good stuff at home? I've never had preserved duck before. Perfect, I'll take this good stuff home and eat it!"

"No, we're saving that preserved duck for the Dragon Boat Festival!"

Li Dongmei reached out to stop her, but Liu Dazhuang wailed on the ground, "That's enough, stop stopping her. Let her take it all, and hurry up and help me to the village to see a doctor!"

Li Dongmei was very unwilling to accept this. She watched as Su Xiaoxiao stuffed the preserved duck into her own pocket and then walked away.

Su Xiaoxiao snatched back all the flour and cured meat from her family, and unexpectedly got an extra cured duck. She was very happy and wondered how she should eat the cured duck when she got home.

Liu Dazhuang was so angry that he started cursing Li Dongmei.

"I told you not to try and take advantage of others all the time. Now look what happened! You tried to steal a chicken but lost the bait instead. The preserved duck we were preparing for the festival, that fragrant preserved duck..."

Li Dongmei angrily shouted at Su Xiaoxiao's retreating figure, "You bitch, just you wait! I'll tell everyone about your family hiding a man, and you'll never be able to hold your head up in the village again!"

Then, she lay on the ground and started throwing a tantrum.

"What kind of world is this? Su Xiaoxiao, you bitch, just wait till I get my hands on you! Ouch, my finger..."

She started wailing, while Su Xiaoxiao had already happily gone home with her things.

This time, Li Dongmei and her husband will definitely feel the pinch, and learn their lesson so they won't dare to steal again next time.

Grandma Liu and the children hid in the inner room and didn't dare to come out. If she had come out, she would probably have ended up like Liu Dazhuang and Li Dongmei, getting a beating from Su Xiaoxiao.

"What reputation are you talking about? What do you mean by hiding a man?"

After Su Xiaoxiao left, Granny Liu came over to ask Li Dongmei.

Li Dongmei then recounted what she had seen at Su Xiaoxiao's house that day: a man lying on their kang (heated brick bed). "That man was very handsome; he was clearly Su Xiaoxiao's kept gigolo."

Li Dongmei spoke with great confidence.

When Grandma Liu heard this, she was furious.

"Has this woman no shame? Our little tree has only been dead for a short time, and she actually brought a man home? I'm going to go and tear her apart!"

Li Dongmei hurriedly stopped Granny Liu, saying, "Mother, this matter is not urgent. We need to discuss it carefully!"

She looked at the direction Su Xiaoxiao had walked in through the doorway with a mischievous grin, as if she had already made up her mind.

Su Xiaoxiao took the preserved duck she had snatched back, stir-fried it with some wild garlic sprouts, and added some chili peppers. The preserved duck tasted really good.

Su Xiaoxiao made another egg drop soup to give Sanlang some extra nutrition.

She went home and comforted Da Bao and Xiao Bao, telling them not to be afraid and that she had gotten the things back.

Seeing the delicious preserved duck, the two children happily ate an extra bowl of rice and quickly forgot about the unpleasant incident.
