Chapter 2 Slave
Chapter 2 Slave
The next day.
After a night of cold wind and barely falling asleep, Li Ang, or rather, Leon, was awakened by a loud scream and cry.
He rubbed his sleepy eyes, sat up and looked towards the source of the quarrel.
A lot of mercenaries were standing outside the cage at some point.
These Kantadar soldiers were guarding a man wearing a military robe with a white bird pattern. He was obviously of higher status and had a sword at his side. He might be a Kantadar officer or noble. The man looked at the quarrel in the cage with impatience.
Two soldiers roughly lifted a woman from a cage and tried to drag her outside. A young man held her tightly, yelling angrily, and kept kicking and hitting the mercenaries in resistance.
Looking closely, it was the brother and sister.
"You bunch of bastards! Let my sister go! Let her go! Let her go!!!" The boy's roar with red eyes was full of anger, but one could also hear his helpless panic and crying.
His sister had already burst into tears and could only beg her brother in a broken voice to let go and not to provoke the mercenaries to abuse him.
The mercenaries of Kantadar obviously did not have a good temper. They threw the girl to the ground. One of them grabbed the boy's hair and pulled it back, while the other one raised his boot and kicked the boy to the ground without mercy.
(Uriah) "Damn pig!" The mercenary cursed with foreign swear words and drew the armed sword at his waist in anger.
Leon's eyelids twitched reflexively. Any modern earthling with a basic sense of morality would find it difficult to remain unmoved by such a scene, and the clear memory of the tragic death of the original owner's parents made him involuntarily angry.
But reason warned him that he was just an unarmed boy and could do nothing.
His shoulder was held down by another hand. He turned his head and saw that the person holding him down was the boy he met yesterday.
"Don't take the beating. We can't help him." Azerien advised Leon calmly.
The poor lady who was thrown to the ground was almost about to collapse. Seeing the mercenary's sword pointed at her last family member, her eyesight was blurred by tears. She cried and crawled to the mercenary's feet, grabbed his ankles, and begged the mercenary to forgive her relatives: ". Woo - no no no, don't hurt my brother, please, kind sir, I will go with you. I will go with you, don't hurt him, please."
The mercenary who had drawn his sword was stopped in his tracks, and was about to reach out to grab the woman's hair in annoyance. However, his rude action was stopped by his fellow mercenaries. Another mercenary tilted his head to signal the slave buyers outside, so the annoyed mercenary had to restrain his violence for the time being.
He sheathed the sword again, then grabbed the woman's arm with both hands, pulled her up, and continued to pull her outside.
"Cough, sister. Sister. You Kantadar bastards! Ahhhhh!" The boy struggled to get up and coughed up blood. The boy, who was already blinded by hatred, rushed up again with a roar.
The mercenary standing in the middle swung his fist at the young man, but unexpectedly the other party dodged it by lowering his head.
The young man fell directly into the mercenary's arms. Leon saw that his shackled hands nimbly grabbed the hilt of the mercenary's waist.
Unfortunately, the mercenary raised his hand to hold the sword without panic, and at the same time turned sideways, raised his right leg and kneed the boy in the abdomen.
There was a loud bang from the armor, and the heavy blow knocked the young man to the ground, his bruised body curled up on the ground.
His weak body could no longer withstand the excitement of his blood, and the mercenary ruthlessly stepped forward and kicked him again, this time completely knocking the boy unconscious.
"No! Please don't hit him. Sir, please." Outside the cage, the boy's sister's heartbreaking sobs were dragged farther and farther away.
(Uriah) "You little bastard, if you weren't worth some money, I would cut you into pieces." The mercenary spat at the boy who fell unconscious to the ground after suffering a heavy blow. He was in no mood to continue pestering him and left the cage cursing.
at last.
The surroundings fell into depressing silence again.
The captives looked back to the ground with either numbness or sympathy. No one could help him, and no one could help themselves. People had become accustomed to such tragic experiences.
What's more, in some ways the boy was luckier than most of the captives, because most of the people here had lost all their families in the previous massacres.
Seeing the mercenary finally walk away, Leon sighed, stood up and walked to the unconscious boy, squatted down and briefly checked his injuries.
The mercenary's beating left purple and blue scars on the boy's body, but fortunately there were no fatal injuries. The strong boy was still breathing even when he fainted.
Leon reached out and turned him over, keeping the unconscious boy lying on his side.
But beyond that, there's not much more that can be done.
When the unconscious boy woke up again, it was already afternoon.
The boy opened his red eyes, his throat was hoarse like a wild animal and filled with grief and anger. He struggled to get up again, but the pain in his chest and abdomen made him grit his teeth and his body twitched.
The pain instinctively made the boy curl up tighter, and the sad howl gradually turned the powerless anger into sobbing. Leon looked at the boy who buried his face in the ground and trembled all over, and had to remain silent. If it were him, no pale words could have a comforting effect at this moment.
A long time passed, so long that even the boy's low sobs gradually stopped.
It was getting dark, and it was time for the mercenaries to feed the prisoners every day. This time, Leon did not react as slowly as he did yesterday. He stood up and picked up the food promptly.
The half piece of food that the young man named Azerien gave him yesterday could not last long enough in his stomach. Perhaps it was because the memory of eating delicious food until he vomited every day before the time travel was too deep, which made him feel even hungrier at this moment.
I don’t know if it’s because there are fewer people, or if the amount of food was just thrown in randomly by the mercenaries, but the rations thrown in this time are a little more than the number of people in the cage.
Leon picked up a piece and looked back at the boy who lost his sister. The boy was still curled up in the corner motionless, so he picked up another piece from the ground.
Walking back to the corner, Leon placed the extra dry food in front of the lifeless boy, then sat aside and started eating by himself.
When he had finished eating the dry food that tasted as bad as sawdust, he still didn't see the young man with empty eyes move at all, like a puppet without a soul.
"If you want to starve to death here, you will never see your sister again." Leon couldn't help but persuade him.
But the young man still did not move.
Leon admitted that he had no ability to speak well, so he sighed helplessly: "Since you don't want to eat, then I won't be polite. I don't want to stay in the cage forever."
After saying that, he reached out to grab the piece of dry food. The days of eating delicious food and feasting before the time travel were still in his mind. At this moment, his eyes were dizzy. Even if this piece of dry food tasted bad, it was better than going hungry.
I don’t know which words irritated the boy, but before Leon’s hand touched the food in front of him, the other party suddenly raised his hand and snatched it away.
The young man grabbed the dry food, clenched his knuckles tightly, and his face looked as if he had come alive. He bit the food in his hand with big mouthfuls of ferocious face.
Seeing this, Leon smiled and it seemed that he couldn't have more food.
The boy wolfed down the food, then endured the pain and sat up straight, looking straight at Leon.
"." Leon felt somewhat puzzled by his stare.
The young man was silent for a while, then slowly approached and asked softly through gritted teeth, "You said you didn't want to stay in the cage forever. Do you have a way to escape?"
Azerien, who was standing nearby, seemed to have vaguely heard his words and looked over involuntarily.
Only then did Leon understand what had provoked the young man. It turned out that the other party thought there was something else behind his words.
"I don't want to be a slave, but I can't escape now." Leon could only shake his head regretfully at the boy.
Seeing the boy's eyes gradually become disappointed, Leon frowned and added: "As long as you are still alive, there will always be a chance to get out."
The young man slowly lowered his head, looking at the dirty ground under his feet. After a long while, he said in a muffled voice: "As long as I am still alive."
The boy dragged his scarred body to the corner of the fence next to Leon.
Leon looked at him in silence, and suddenly asked: "My name is Leon, what should I call you?"
".Lohak." The sturdy boy replied in a deep voice.
Leon looked at the bruises all over his sturdy body and advised him kindly: "Don't do stupid things like that again."
".What?"
"Do you want to be beaten to death by them before you have a chance to escape? At least don't let yourself get hurt any more." Leon looked at the scars on his body and said, "If you die here, who will save your sister in the future?"
Hearing this, Lohak looked at Leon deeply, did not refute, but nodded silently.
Leon sighed for the umpteenth time and looked down at his hands that were tightly bound by shackles.
It's easy to say nice words, but the reality is still despairing. The opportunities that can only be obtained by waiting are so elusive. Let alone other things, just how to remove the shackles on the hands is a problem.
Leon closed his eyes helplessly and continued to rest.
No matter what, just as I have warned others, you must conserve your physical and mental strength to survive before the possible opportunity comes.
