Chapter 163: Never seen the world
The group soon arrived at Shenjiazhuang.

When the Wei family saw Shen Yi's grand mansion, they were all shocked.

Hearing the noise, Su Tai came out to open the door. Seeing Shen Yi, she immediately smiled happily, "You're finally back!"

She had barely finished speaking when she noticed the people behind Shen Yi, and quickly opened the door to let them in first.

It was already dark, and Wei Laoqi's family couldn't see the situation in the courtyard at all. They could only follow Shen Yi into the main room with some trepidation.

Seeing the furnishings in the main room and Su Zhan and Ruan Xiaoyu teasing the children, the whole family became even more uneasy.

Su Tai poured water for them, and they looked extremely apprehensive.

After exchanging a few pleasantries with Su Zhan, Shen Yi introduced Su Tai to her, saying, "Their family surname is Wei. Wei Laoqi is a blacksmith. He came with me this time because he wants to go back to the village to farm. He will stay at our house for the next few days until things in the village are settled before going back."

Su Tai nodded knowingly and went to the kitchen to prepare the food with a polite smile.

They have fish and meat just like before.

This dish seemed quite ordinary to Su Tai, but to the impoverished Wei family, it was an extraordinary delicacy.

At this moment, Su Tai was examining the wild boar in the yard and asked Shen Yi, "Should we sell it or kill it and eat it ourselves?"

"It's up to you. If you like to eat it, I'll prepare it and keep it. If you don't want to eat it, I'll sell it. We can make some money from it anyway."

Su Tai pondered for a moment and said, "Then let's stay. Spring plowing will start in a couple of days, and our family needs to prepare some food for the aunties and grandmas who are working. They'll be happy if we can stew a pot of wild boar meat."

The conversation between the two reached the ears of the Wei family in the main room, and everyone had different thoughts.

Back in the room, Liu Jinhua looked around at the clean and tidy house and then at Wei Laoqi. "Old man," she said, "how has Shen Yi been living these past few years? How come he suddenly built such a nice house and even hired people to plow the fields in the spring? Isn't he just a landlord?"

Old Wei shook his head with a sigh, "How would I know? Why ask so many questions? Let's go back to the village and get the land back first. Let's not pry into Shen Yi's affairs. That kid is obviously not an ordinary person."

Liu Jinhua thought back to the time when her old man almost lost his life and was only alive thanks to the heroic Shen Yi's intervention. She couldn't help but feel a little regretful. "If I had known he was so capable, I would have promised my granddaughter to him back then."

Wei Laoqi was so shocked that he choked on his saliva and coughed repeatedly. "Old woman, I'm telling you, you'd better not think about it! Not to mention that our granddaughter and Shen Yi are not the same age, even if they were, it wouldn't matter. She was betrothed to the Mo family since she was a child."

To be honest, Old Mo is really lucky; he got such a capable son-in-law for free.

Liu Jinhua could no longer agree with this.

The two fell asleep while talking.

The next day, before dawn, they were awakened by the noise in the yard.

When I came out, it was still dark!
Liu Jinhua was puzzled by Shen Yi's comings and goings. "Are you up to work so early?"

Shen Yi smiled and pointed to the next room, saying, "My family runs a small business, so we have to get up and work at 1 AM. You can rest for now. I won't come back after this trip."

Liu Jinhua was even more surprised.

But in her heart, she grew increasingly envious of the Shen family.

Look at the life they live! They have a big courtyard, endless fields to cultivate, and businesses to run. How can ordinary farmers compare?
Just as she was lost in thought, Su Zhan came out and called out to Shen Yi, "Brother-in-law, why are you working as soon as you get back? Go back and rest. I'll do it today. You can start working tomorrow after you've rested."

Things are getting busy at home, so I'll take Xiaoyu back to Dongmen Village after dawn.

"Okay! Let me know before you leave. Take half of the wild boar with you; we can't finish it all at home."

“Okay! My dad will definitely be happy.”

The two exchanged a few more words before going about their business. Liu Jinhua, however, became increasingly confused. She went back into the house and shook Wei Laoqi awake. "Old man, isn't Shen Yi's wife from Ximen Village? How did she become from Dongmen Village?"

Old Wei rolled over, frowning and muttering, "I'm originally from Ximen Village, you misheard me."

"Impossible! I heard it clearly, his brother-in-law was talking about Dongmen Village! If you don't believe me, let's ask him at dawn!" Liu Jinhua suddenly became serious.

Wei Laoqi had no choice but to agree, so he just went along with it.

Liu Jinhua got up before dawn. The courtyard was quiet, but laughter and chatter came from next door. The gate was ajar, and three black dogs were squatting by the gate, watching people coming and going warily.

Liu Jinhua approached the gate fearfully, and walked out under the watchful gaze of the black dog.

She finally breathed a sigh of relief after passing through two doors. Looking at the farmland outside and feeling the rural atmosphere in the early morning, her brows relaxed.

The Xu family, carrying their farm tools to the fields, found it strange to see Liu Jinhua standing outside Shen Yi's house. They went up to her and asked, "Is she Shen Yi's guest?"

Liu Jinhua looked over and smiled kindly at Xu Shi, nodding in agreement.

Xu smiled back and walked into the field.

Seeing them working in the fields not far away, Liu Jinhua followed them and chatted with Xu.

"Which village are you from, fellow villager? I've never seen you before."

"From Liujiazhuang next door."

"Liu Family Village? I've been to Liu Family Village a few times. Which family are you from?" Xu racked her brains but couldn't recall Liu Jinhua.

After Liu Jinhua explained, Xu suddenly realized, "So you've been hiding in the mountains for years, and only came out now?"

Liu Jinhua nodded.

Xu looked regretful. "In the past two years, everyone has followed suit and planted high-yield grains, accumulating a lot of wealth. You've missed out on a good time! But it doesn't matter. If you work hard this year, you can earn even more."

If I miss it this year, I won't have another chance next year.

Liu Jinhua immediately became anxious, "What do you mean? How come there's no chance?"

Madam Xu didn't hide anything and told her what Su Tai had told her, her eyes full of pride and smugness. "Let me tell you, my niece-in-law is knowledgeable and capable. Before our Shen Yi got engaged to her, he was struggling to make ends meet, but after getting engaged to the Su family, his luck immediately changed. He not only made money, but also built up his current wealth. Don't you think my niece-in-law is blessed with good fortune and wealth? You can't go wrong listening to her."

Liu Jinhua was stunned. She had considered all sorts of possibilities for Shen Yi's rise to wealth, but she never thought it would be related to his wife.

He immediately asked in shock, "Wasn't Shen Yi engaged to the Mo family of Ximen Village? How did he become engaged to the Su family?"

"Oh! That's all ancient history! That girl from the Mo family isn't good."

Xu embellished the story and told Liu Jinhua what had happened.

Liu Jinhua then understood the intricacies of the situation and couldn't help but sigh, "They say a wife should be virtuous, and that's so true. If Shen Yi had married a girl from the Mo family, I wonder what would have happened now?"

"What can happen? Just look at the Xiong family in Ximen Village! Xiong Kai broke off his engagement with Su Tai and then married Mo Chunxiang. Now they're having a tough time."

I heard that Mo Chunxiang is also a vain and competitive person who loves to shirk her responsibilities. She can't do any housework properly and is always making demands. If you ask me, even a fortune couldn't withstand her constant squandering! She'll be lucky if she doesn't ruin the family!

When Xu talked about Mo Chunxiang, her eyes were full of disdain, and her tone was somewhat relieved and proud.
