Chapter 42: Going to town to sell mint water

The crowing of a rooster woke up the Lotus Village.

At daybreak, Jiang Wan sat up from the bed, walked to the yard and started working.

The other five people heard the sound and woke up.

Ye Xiaofang said dazedly: "Mom, I want to go to town too."

Ye Sanshu also said: "Mom, I'm strong, let me go with you!"

Jiang Wan hardened his heart and said, "I have only prepared 150 bowls of mint water today, so two people will be enough. But I may need to buy some things and bring them back. Dahe and Sanniu, come with me."

Ye Erhai's eyes widened: "Mom, shouldn't I go with my elder brother?"

According to the order, it should be him, right?

He glared at Ye Sanshu angrily.

Ye Sanshu smiled and said, "Because I'm strong, hehehe."

Jiang Wan smiled and nodded: "Sanniu is stronger, let him carry the food back."

In fact, Sanniu is a sincere and honest child, not as cunning as the second child. She took some things from the space as buying things, and the eldest and third child would probably not find out.

Ye Sanshu had no idea that he was chosen because of his IQ, and he happily got up and went to wash his face.

Ye Sheng's ox cart was parked at the entrance of the village. The cart was empty, without a single person in sight. Come to think of it, every household was short of food these days. Wouldn't it be nice to use the money to buy something to drink? Why use it to ride in an ox cart?
It only takes an hour to walk there. If you start before dawn, you can reach the town before the sun comes out. You can save two cents in a round trip, which is enough to buy a big steamed bun.

The mother and her two children got on the car, which carried two loads and four buckets. One bucket was filled with mint water, two buckets were filled with water for washing dishes, and the last bucket was used to store dishes.

The bowls at home were all broken and not suitable for serving to customers. So the first thing I did when I arrived in town was to buy bowls and spoons. I bought a few sets at first. If they were not enough, that was a good thing, as it meant there was great market potential.

While driving the ox cart, Ye Sheng casually asked, "What is Dahe Niang doing?"

Jiang Wan said, "I'll try making some food and drinks and take them to town to see if I can sell them."

She wants to make money in an honest way, build a house in an honest way, and live comfortably in this era in an honest way.

She never thought of hiding her business from the villagers.

Of course, she wouldn't be so stupid as to reveal how much money she made.

Ye Sheng did not ask in detail. People in the village often brought things to the town to sell. Eggs and firewood were the most common ones. Some skillful women could embroider handkerchiefs, and some people made mung bean cakes and so on. In short, they were all small businesses to make a living, and each family had its own way of making a living.

The ox cart drove steadily towards Hehua Town.

Not long after they walked away, something suddenly flew down from a tree by the roadside and landed on Jiang Wan's arm.

The last time I rode on a ox cart, there was this thing. It was a locust.

Ye Sanshu grabbed the locust and crushed it to death. His hands were stained with the juice from the locust's body, and he rubbed it on his trouser legs.

Jiang Wan was in a dilemma. They were about to sell food and drinks, but this kid was still so unhygienic. If a customer saw him, they would not be able to sell even a bowl of mint water.

She quickly used a gourd ladle to get some clean water: "Sanniu, wash your hands."

Ye Sanshu's face turned red: "Mom, I won't do it again next time... What the hell!"

A locust hit his face, and he slapped it away, his face covered in dirt.

Jiang Wan's heart was twitching.

Ye Sanshu quickly admitted his mistake: "Mom, I was wrong..."

He quickly got some water to wash his hands and face, fearing that he would be kicked off the bus. Jiang Wan looked up at the sky, and saw a lot of locusts flying overhead, not too many, but not too few either.

Ye Sheng frowned: "This thing came once last year. If it comes again this year, Lotus Village, no, the entire Lotus Town will be finished..."

"Uncle, no!" Ye Dahe shook his head vigorously. "Grandpa, the village head, said that locusts will not come back once they fly away. These few remaining ones may be those that did not have time to fly away last year. They are not difficult to deal with."

Ye Sheng didn't say anything and drove the car in silence.

Jiang Wan didn't say anything. She counted the locusts flying in the sky. At a casual count, there were nearly a hundred of them.

If locusts really come, all the rice that has finally grown into ears and grains will be lost to these locusts.

She vaguely remembered that when she was watching the news in her previous life, there was a hot search about a locust-sweeping duck army. Hundreds of chickens and ducks entered the rice fields and drank all the locusts flying in the sky.

There are only three chickens at home, which is totally not enough. Even if we can start hatching chicks immediately, there won’t be enough time. It would be great if there were chicks to sell in town.

Along the way, Jiang Wan was thinking about all sorts of things, and the ox cart soon arrived at Lotus Town.

The sun had just risen above the horizon, and it was morning market time. The streets were bustling with people, and there were various stalls on the roadside.

"Selling buns, selling buns, three cents for a big meat bun!"

"Selling candied haws, sweet and delicious candied haws!"

"Selling eggs, they're cheap!"

The streets were filled with shouting and the stalls were fully occupied.

Lotus Village is too far away from Lotus Town. I couldn’t even get a stall when I got here so early.

Jiang Wan found an empty space at the end of the street, put down the four buckets of belongings, and said, "Sanniu, you stay here and guard the things. Dahe, go to the restaurant over there and borrow two tables. It's two cents per table. Don't borrow more than two cents. I'll go to the grocery store to buy tableware."

The mother and her two children split up into three groups and each was busy with their own work.

Jiang Wan walked into the only grocery store in town. The store had a complete range of goods, including some antique porcelain bowls that looked very good. She asked, "Boss, how much is one?"

The shopkeeper took a look at the patched clothes she was wearing and said calmly, "Thirty-five cents."

Jiang Wan: "..."

This is too expensive. Buying ten bowls and spoons would cost half a tael of silver, which invisibly increases the cost.

She settled for the next best thing: "Is there anything cheaper?"

The shopkeeper looked impatient: "The cheapest ones are in this row, one penny each, take your pick."

Jiang Wan looked down and saw that all the tableware placed underneath were defective. Some were broken or had ugly patterns. They were only slightly better than the broken bowls in their home.

She shook her head and walked out of the store.

The shopkeeper rolled his eyes behind her. He was wearing such shabby clothes, yet he still despised a bowl worth a penny. How could he be so confident...

Jiang Wan is confident.

She walked around the alley and opened the mall. On the empty panel were all kinds of tableware, which looked very beautiful.

She chose a set of white porcelain bowls with tulips reflected on the surface. Each bowl cost two cents, a total of twenty cents. With ten spoons, the total cost was only thirty cents.

She walked to the stall holding ten bowls, and saw Ye Dahe and Ye Sanshu carrying two tables and putting them down.
