Chapter 998 The Pharaoh and the Siamese Cat
Chapter 998 The Pharaoh and the Siamese Cat
"Dad, where did you go?"
Peter was deep in thought, wondering if Queen Hippolyta, Diana's mother, had tricked her into going to Paradise Island when Raven asked him where he had been that evening.
Peter looked up at Raven and said, "I went to Gotham to meet with Bruce."
Peter then told Raven and the others about his conversation with Bruce in Gotham.
"So, Dad, you've been looking for Rorschach all night?"
Raven asked curiously, "Did you find it, Dad?"
"Hmm, I've located them, but now is not the time to meet them."
Peter has located Rorschach, Saturn Girl, and Johnny Thunder.
But he did not show up immediately.
The two found Alan Steco's green light, and Peter wanted to see what else they would encounter.
As he pondered this, Peter focused his senses on Rorschach and his two companions, who had already been locked in place by the Sandman Sand.
His brows furrowed quickly.
He sensed a powerful energy emanating from around the three of them.
Peter, of course, wouldn't let these three escape his control, and he looked at Raven and Azu.
“Raven, John, you two are coming with me to Gotham.”
Seeing the serious expression on Peter's face, Raven asked worriedly, "Dad, what happened?"
"Something has happened on Luo Xia's side."
Peter briefly explained the situation to Raven and prepared to take the two of them to Gotham.
"Father!"
A clear and loud sound rang out.
Little Mordred's face turned bright red, and she was still tightly hugging her bewildered golden retriever, Murphy, who was wearing a miniature red cape.
"Father, if you are going to Gotham, please take me with you."
She tilted her small face up, her big eyes shining brightly, filled with excitement and eagerness.
“Take me there, I can help my father.”
Upon hearing this, Peter looked down at his youngest daughter.
Murphy felt a little uncomfortable from being squeezed so tightly, and let out a pitiful "woof," sticking out her tongue to lick the back of Mordred's hand.
Azu looked at the stubborn little Mordred with a displeased expression, and thought to himself: What are you doing causing trouble, you little brat?
Raven's hair under her hood trembled slightly, and she remained silent.
Peter frowned almost imperceptibly as he watched his daughter's determined attitude toward going.
How can this youngest daughter have so much energy?!
It's even more vigorous than Ceresa and Bao Bao, and about the same age as Azu when he was a child.
Is this the physical strength of a Saber clone?!
He coughed and squatted down so that he could look his daughter in the eye.
This height means that little Mordred no longer has to strain his neck from looking up.
"Motty".
Peter lowered his voice, which carried a gentle strength, "Staying home with Murphy and everyone else to look after our farm is also a very important task."
"do not want!"
Young Mordred shook his head vigorously. "I want to go with Father. I want to go to Gotham."
Her little hands gripped Peter's trouser leg tightly, her knuckles turning white, fully expressing her determination to "never let go, no matter what."
Peter looked at the stubbornness in his youngest daughter's eyes and felt a headache coming on.
He understood Mordred's character.
Once this little girl gets stubborn, not even ten oxen could pull her back.
If they force her to stay, the manor will likely be turned upside down by her.
Peter finally reached out and ruffled her fluffy blonde hair.
"Stay close to me, don't leave my side for even a moment. If anything happens, hide behind me, or behind Sister Raven, understand?"
Hearing Peter agree, Mordred nodded vigorously, her little face beaming with joy: "Understood! Father is the best!"
She immediately let go of Peter's trouser leg and instead wrapped her little arms tightly around his neck, like a little koala that had finally succeeded. "I knew Father would take me!"
Peter stood up and easily picked up his little daughter with one hand, letting her sit steadily in his arms.
Mordred wrapped her arms tightly around Peter's neck, while her other hand held onto Murphy's cape strap.
The puppy stuck out its tongue because it was being strangled, but it still faithfully snuggled in its little owner's arms.
Azu's fake smile froze, and his eyes swept over Mordred, who was being held in Peter's arms, a complex emotion that was hard to describe flashing across his face.
Bao Bao snorted coldly and turned her head away.
She now realized that the person she hated most wasn't Ceresia anymore, but Mordred, that tomboy.
Gotham.
Due to the recent typhoon, Gotham has been experiencing continuous rain.
The raindrops lashed coldly against the corrugated iron roof of the abandoned factory, making a "tap-tap" sound.
The Saturn girl walked at the front, her uniform glowing slightly in the dim light.
The second Rorschach followed closely behind, his face covered by a mask of constantly twisting and flowing ink stains.
He clutched a simple, antique-looking lantern that emitted a faint but steady green light. Between them stood Johnny Thunder, an old man wrapped in an ill-fitting, tattered coat, his steps faltering, his cloudy eyes fixed on the green lantern in Rorschach's hand, muttering nervously, "Alan's lantern...it has to be returned to him...the Justice Society is gathering..."
This is the edge of Gotham Harbor, surrounded by countless containers and abandoned machinery.
After walking for a while, Saturn Girl suddenly stopped and raised one hand.
Rorschach immediately bent over, and the ink-stained mask instantly froze into a ball.
Johnny stopped rambling on, looking bewildered.
"There's something..."
The Saturn Girl said softly, "A high-energy reaction is approaching."
As soon as he finished speaking, Rorschach felt the world disappear.
It wasn't darkness, but a white light that devoured everything.
Suddenly illuminated by the white light, the old man let out a short cry of surprise and instinctively reached out to grab something.
Rorschach immediately drew his pistol.
Saturn Girl, on the other hand, was looking ahead with a furrowed brow.
Less than twenty meters in front of them, the original container was violently pushed aside, squeezed and deformed by an invisible force, clearing out a circular open space.
In the center of the open space, a streamlined spaceship sat quietly.
It was entirely black, with sharp lines, and stood out starkly against the dilapidated and filthy surroundings of Gotham.
On top of the spaceship, an armor plate slid open silently, and then a figure appeared at the hatch.
He wore a perfectly tailored white uniform, his blond hair impeccably styled, remaining spotless even in the Gotham night rain.
The newcomer's handsome face bore a deep weariness, but his eyes pierced through the rain, locking onto the three people below, especially the green light in Rorschach's hand.
The Pharaoh took a step forward, and as if his body were weightless, he gracefully "floated" down from the hatch several meters high in a manner that defied the laws of physics, landing steadily on the muddy ground.
The raindrops slid off eerily a few centimeters above his head.
A slender, glossy Siamese cat silently followed him, landing lightly at his feet, its emerald eyes glowing faintly in the darkness.
The atmosphere instantly tensed up. Rorschach leaned forward, looking in surprise at the suddenly appearing Pharaoh.
The Saturn Girl subtly shifted a step to the side, subtly shielding the still somewhat bewildered Johnny behind her.
The Siamese cat seemed to sense Rorschach's hostility, arching its back and hissing threateningly at him.
"Rorschach."
The Pharaoh's voice broke the silence, his gaze sweeping over Rorschach's mask. "You've found a lamp. That's quite unexpected."
His gaze then fell on the Saturnian girl, a hint of inquiry in his eyes. "And who is this?"
The Saturn Girl met his gaze without flinching.
Her voice was clear and steady, penetrating powerfully through the rain: "Saturn Girl, from the 30th century, the Reja Legion."
The thirtieth century?
The Pharaoh raised his eyebrow almost imperceptibly.
His sharp gaze instantly returned to Rorschach. "Where did you find her, Rorschach? Time travelers aren't rats you can pick up in the Gotham sewers."
The ink on Rorschach's mask churned violently, and a hoarse, dry voice squeezed out from his throat, "Arkham, she... got me out of there!"
Pharaoh nodded. "Arkham Asylum..."
He repeated in a low voice, a faint smile playing on his lips, "That really is... just as expected."
The moment he finished speaking!
"Meow--!"
A piercing, distorted meow suddenly ripped through the oppressive stillness of the rainy night.
The Siamese cat at the Pharaoh's feet, which had been watching Rorschach warily, suddenly bristled.
Its fur stood on end, its body seemed to have swelled up, and its emerald green pupils were fixed on the green lantern that Rorschach held in his hand.
Its limbs were stiff, its tail stood straight up, and a continuous, low, threatening growl rumbled in its throat.
The sound was nothing like that of a feline; it sounded more like that of a wild beast in dire straits.
When the Pharaoh saw the extraordinary size of his Siamese cat, his expression changed immediately.
He suddenly looked down at his restless cat, then suddenly looked up, his gaze like that of a hawk piercing the lantern that emitted a green light.
“Bubbastis…”
The Pharaoh called out the cat's name.
This cat is not an ordinary pet.
It is an organism cloned and cultivated by the Pharaoh using the "remains" left behind when Dr. Manhattan decomposed himself before his death, through cutting-edge biotechnology.
It was also the most crucial key for Pharaoh to find Dr. Manhattan.
And now, this key is facing Alan Scott's green light, and it is giving off an unprecedented and the strongest reaction!
Bubastis could no longer restrain itself. Ignoring its master's presence, it was drawn to Rorschach as if by an invisible magnet, its limbs stiff yet swift.
Or more accurately, he lunged at the green light in Rorschach's hand.
"Go away!"
Luo Xia shouted sharply, instinctively hiding the lantern behind his back, and swung his other hand out to try to drive away the suddenly crazed beast.
"Don't touch it!"
The Pharaoh's voice suddenly rose, and his body instinctively leaned forward, as if trying to stop Boubastis, or perhaps to stop Rorschach from hurting his cat.
