Chapter 14 Clark's Bedtime Story

"It was Father Norma from the church who told me about the wonders of that land."

Old Bill had a painful look on his face. "I know that's not normal, but I always think about Caesar jumping around beside me."

"You mean Father Norma?"

Peter frowned.

Isn't this the priest who presided at Louis' funeral?
"As a clergyman, doesn't he know that this is a blasphemy against the God he believes in?"

Peter couldn't help but wonder at this point, was this priest a fake priest, or did he have no faith at all?
"I do not know."

Old Bill shook his head. "Father Norma is a devout Christian. Maybe he just doesn't want to see me suffer."

“Pain and death are part of life, and to reject them is to reject life itself.”

Peter said as he stood up and put the photo away.

Seeing Peter getting ready to leave, Old Bill breathed a sigh of relief, stood up and walked him to the door.

He was really afraid that Peter would continue to pester him.

"Once I remember any problem later."

Peter said to him, "I will come to visit again."

Old Bill nodded helplessly, "Of course."

Padraic Farm.

After dinner, Peter looked at Clark in front of him in surprise.

"You said you wanted me to read you a story, Clark?"

He didn't expect Clark to let him read a story to him.

Usually, A-Zu would ask me to read to him before going to bed.

However, as A-Zu grows older, he has rarely made such requests recently.

"Yes, I want to hear the story, Godfather."

Clark looked at him eagerly.

Peter originally wanted to investigate Father Norma at night, but seeing Clark's eager expectation, he finally compromised.

Father Norma will not run away, and the investigation can be done another day.

A-Zu, who was watching TV nearby, curled his lips when he heard Clark ask Peter to tell him a story.

In Clark's room, Peter is holding a book.

(Since Clark loves playing with Zu on the farm, Padrick also has a room at the farm.)
-

"She was hysterical and said, 'I just thought of this, why didn't I think of this before? Why didn't you think of this?'

'What do you think? ' he asked.

'Two more wishes,' she answered hastily, 'we only made one wish.'

'Isn't one enough? ' he asked suddenly.

'It's not enough,' she cried ecstatically, 'we can make one more wish. Kneel down and wish for our son to be born again. '"

-

Peter read to Clarke The Monkey's Paw by Jacobs.

The story roughly tells about a retired British soldier who accidentally obtained a magic monkey's paw from an ancient Indian monk, which can fulfill three wishes.

When talking about the couple's resurrected son and knocking hard on the door, Clark was so scared that he curled up in the quilt.

"Cough cough."

Peter coughed and said to Clark, "Maybe I can tell you another story, like the story of the three little pigs, or Cinderella, Clark."

This kind of dark story was not originally included in Clark's bedtime stories.

But for some reason, Clark suddenly asked him to read the story.

Although he also felt that the Monkey's Paw was somewhat similar to the story he experienced in Smallville. "The Godfather."

Clark poked his head out from under the covers, "Does the Monkey Paw's wish really come with a price?"

"No, Clark, desire has no price, but greed has its price."

Clark asked in confusion: "Is Old White greedy? But they are obviously scared, why do they continue to make wishes?"

Peter put down the storybook. "Clark, fear is one of the emotions that humans can never control. People try to avoid this emotion in their hearts, while at the same time allowing themselves to peek into the disgusting happiness that this emotion brings."

"Like the White family, although they have deep hatred and fear for the evil represented by the 'Monkey's Paw', they can't hide their deep greed for money."

Clark stuck his head out and snuggled up to Peter, imitating Peter's sigh and saying, "Humans are so complicated!"

"You're right, humans are a contradiction."

Peter asked Clark, "Can you tell me why you want me to tell this story today, Clark?"

"I"

Clark hesitated and moved closer to Peter, "Dad, I can tell you a secret."

"What a secret."

"I was dragged by Azu to see the boy lying in the coffin in the church."

A confused and frightened look appeared on his face. "In the evening, I seemed to see him again."

"You mean little Terry."

"I don't know his name, but I did see him, and he was very pale and had very strange eyes."

Clark described what he saw at the time.

"Mom took me and A-Zu to Aunt Nell's house. I saw it when we passed Louis's house. It was behind the curtain. My eyes and ears can always see things far away."

"So, I thought of the story of The Monkey's Paw that A-Zu told me. A-Zu said that this story is about the resurrection of the dead."

He regretted it a little.

It turns out this story is so scary!
Peter listened to Clark's words and nodded slightly, "So Clark, you didn't tell Zu about watching the horror movie before, but he watched it secretly himself, right?"

Clark looked at Peter's serious face and nodded subconsciously, "Yes."

Peter was a little unhappy.

This kid A-Zu is really like a wretch who would tear off the roof if he wasn't disciplined for three days.

It seems that I need to give him a good beating.

Shaking his head, temporarily blocking out the thoughts in his mind, he said to Clark: "You may have seen it wrong, Clark. The dead cannot be resurrected, because death is a sacred thing and it is irreversible."

"I see."

Clark immediately drew inferences and said, "Just like Old White, their son is dead and can never come back, otherwise something terrible will happen, right?"

"Yes, reversing death will be punished, just like the old White family."

Peter ruffled Clark's black hair and said, "Go to bed early. We have to go to the stable to ride horses tomorrow."

Clark immediately perked up when he heard about horseback riding, "Thank you, Dad!"

"Squeak!"

Closing the door gently, Peter walked down the corridor to his room.

Has little Terry been reborn?
Such a fast speed was beyond my expectation.

The next morning, Peter was making omelettes.

Apart from this simple dish, all his other breakfasts are of the dark type.

Just when I was considering whether to hire a chef, the phone suddenly rang.

"Peter, something happened!"
