Chapter 147 Whispers

What's the matter with this sudden question?
Cheng Mai was confused and refused to accept Shang Xingjian's emotional outburst, so after a moment, Cheng Mai pushed him away without any politeness, "Seriously, Shang Xingjian, what's wrong with you? Is this the time for you to act crazy?"

With so much going on, why is he still acting crazy here?

Shang Xingjian was suddenly pushed aside, and seemingly lost his balance for a moment, falling directly onto the carpet.

Cheng Mai: "..." He couldn't help but look at his own hands. When did she become so powerful, or did Shang Xingjian become weaker?

"Why are you trying to stage an accident?" Cheng Mai refused to take responsibility, which was blatant extortion.

Shang Xingjian had no intention of getting up, so he remained seated on the ground, refusing to rise no matter what Cheng Mai said.

In the end, he simply lay down on the ground.

Cheng Mai moved her lips, and after some struggle, she finally spoke, "I know it must be hard to see your child like this, but didn't that little snake say that it can definitely find all the spiritual consciousness? In the end, your son will still be your son."

Cheng Mai's persuasion was somewhat insincere, after all, she wasn't that great.

Shang Xingjian lay on the ground, ignoring Cheng Mai's words.

Provoked by her attitude, Cheng Mai kicked her, saying, "Go ahead and continue your sentimental lament."

Before Cheng Mai could leave, Shang Xingjian pulled him back out of thin air. The pull was somewhat impolite, and Cheng Mai fell onto Shang Xingjian, unable to break free.

"There are some things I can't understand, and perhaps you can't give me an answer right now either, but I think that damn God has probably done me some favors."

"What?" Cheng Mai was increasingly unable to understand what Shang Xingjian was saying. "Can't you speak like a human being?"

"Rumor has it that Lord Xuanhe is the creator god. Do you know what that means?" Shang Xingjian suddenly said. He rarely mentioned Lord Xuanhe to Cheng Mai, as if he himself refused to acknowledge this fact. Cheng Mai stopped struggling. "Creator god? Then why are you the youngest of the twelve gods?"

“You’re the youngest.” Shang Xingjian refused to let Cheng Mai take advantage of him and insisted on this point. “The so-called creator god is the one who destroys the world.”

The merchant uttered the last two words in a slow, deliberate voice.

Cheng Mai: "..." He couldn't understand, and even thought that Shang Xingjian might have gone crazy.

"Shang Xingjian, have you been under too much pressure lately?" Otherwise, why would you say such nonsense?

Shang Xingjian chuckled softly, but said nothing more.

Seeing his silence, Cheng Mai also quieted down.

But this quiet contains something unsettling.

Cheng Mai leaned against Shang Xingjian's chest, and could clearly hear his heartbeat, strong and powerful, seemingly containing endless life.

"Someone often tells me, 'Don't try anymore. Everything is a preordained ending. Even I shouldn't change it.' But the last thing I believe in is destiny."

It sounds like something a maverick would say, and Shang Xingjian certainly does fit the description of a maverick.

Cheng Mai simply didn't know which scripture he had deviated from, or what path he had judged.

“If everyone is destined to meet their end, then there would be no miracles in the world, right?” Cheng Mai didn’t believe in fate either, and in this respect she was no different from Shang Xingjian.
