Chapter 133 Don't Look Back

Shang Xingjian ignored these looks, but Cheng Mai noticed them too. Instead of asking immediately, he went over the current situation first.

All the mountain spirits have been incorporated, and those that could not be taught have been refined.

Although General Meng An put it simply, Cheng Mai thought the process wouldn't be too gentle, at least not the kind of thing Cheng Mai would like to see.

Fortunately, she has now learned to look at things only from the perspective of the outcome.

After going through everything, Cheng Mai and Meng An returned to his cave.

They currently live in caves, which are not tourist attractions, so isolating them wouldn't be difficult. However, if houses were built, isolating them would be much harder.

Chengmai acknowledges and supports this point.

"How has Father been feeling lately?" Cheng Mai asked General Meng An. General Meng An's expression remained unchanged for years, and Cheng Mai could not discern any difference.

"It's nothing, things here aren't difficult." General Meng An ignored the several battles he had fought, not wanting Cheng Mai to worry about him. "It's just that I dug a person out of the mountains a while ago. This person was very strange; he stayed for a few days and then left."

Cheng Maixin understood immediately; it was a hidden secret.

"Did he say where he was going?" Cheng Mai asked.

"No, that person looked weak, but his magical power was profound. If he really wanted to do something, no one here could stop him." That's why General Meng An was certain that the person had no ill intentions.

Cheng Mai left the question of whether Xuanji had malicious intent unresolved for the time being. After chatting with General Meng An for a while, Cheng Mai went to rest in the place that had been prepared for her.

After Cheng Mai left, General Meng An stayed in the room for a while before getting up and walking outside.

Moonlight shone on the mountains, and Shang Xingjian stood with his hands behind his back, looking at the moon in the sky.

Meng An's steps were heavy, each step a tremor, until he reached the back of the merchant's office.

“Divine Lord,” Meng An called out. Shang Xingjian responded briefly, “What did he say to you?”

"Do not defy the will of Heaven, for none of those who defy the will of Heaven have ever met a good end." Meng An repeated the man's words to Shang Xingjian.

Shang Xingjian laughed, "I know what you're all worrying about."

Merchant Jian sat down on the ground and invited General Meng An to sit down with him. "General Meng An, if you had the chance to do it all over again, would you abandon your wife and daughters, choose to defy your monarch, and fight your way out?"

Meng An: "Of course not."

"That's it. No matter how many times we start over, our deepest choice will never change. Mountains and seas can be leveled, so what is there that cannot be defied by destiny?"

Meng An sat down beside him, deliberately finding a low-lying spot so that he wouldn't be higher than Shang Xingjian.

Shang Xingjian paused for a moment as he observed his actions, then suddenly asked, "Was General Meng An's former territory the land of Qi and Lu?"

"Exactly."

Merchant Jian nodded knowingly, "No wonder."

"what?"

"It's alright." Shang Xingjian looked at the moonlight again. "The person is not the same as before, but the moon is still the same. Once this matter is settled, General Meng An should return to the mortal world."

Meng An frowned slightly, "Does Maimai know what the Divine Lord is about to do?"

"I have a general idea." Shang Xingjian did not give a direct answer. "However, she has an inescapable responsibility in this world, but General Meng An should not remain trapped in this body forever. I hope that one day the general will not turn back."

Sometimes, with some people, once you turn back, you may never be able to leave again.
