"Is this the place?" Dai Xin looked around nervously at the door. This was a quiet and relaxing residence. Having lived half her life, she had never been to such a place before. She was very nervous and gripped her husband tightly.

Zhuo Yuanxin was just as nervous as his wife, but being a man, he felt he couldn't appear too tense at a time like this. He gently patted his wife's hand and took a deep breath: "It should be fine. Don't be nervous. This place looks like a legitimate establishment, it'll be alright."

Dai Xin wasn't afraid, but the thought of the mysterious person who invited them here, who seemed to know so much about them, still filled her with some trepidation. They came here voluntarily for two reasons: first, their fear stemmed from the feeling that this mysterious person was not to be trifled with; second, they were facing a mid-life crisis, both unemployed, burdened with mortgages that had plummeted due to falling property prices, making even selling their homes insufficient to cover the costs. Furthermore, they had elderly parents to support, and these parents were ill, incurring substantial monthly medical expenses.

Furthermore, their daughter is studying abroad, and they haven't dared to tell her about their current unemployment, fearing that she would come back immediately if she found out. She only has one year left to complete her studies, and they don't want to see her dreams shattered.

Before they lost their jobs, they were doing quite well. Who could have imagined that the situation would change so quickly?

The mysterious man said that as long as they came, they would be given a reward, and if the talks went well, they could even be given a job.

Thinking of all this, the couple exchanged a bitter smile. They had gone mad, driven to desperation, and run here. But since they were already here, what did it matter? They might as well give it a try. Given their current situation, they refused to believe that the mysterious person who could enter this place would do anything to them.

"Are you Mr. Zhuo and Ms. Dai?" the staff member inside asked with a smile. After confirming their identities, the two followed the staff member inside.

Pushing open the door to the private room, I found only a young woman sitting inside, her head buried in her phone. I could make out parts of her face, and she seemed to be smiling, as if she had encountered something good.

The door to the private room was already closed, and Zhuo Yuanxin and his companion became even more nervous. Could this be the mysterious person they were supposed to meet?

Azhen looked up and saw that the two were unusually nervous: "Please don't be nervous, have a seat and some tea to calm down. We can talk slowly later."

When the client first visited the orphanage, four couples expressed a strong desire to adopt her, and some even completed the necessary paperwork. However, they all inexplicably changed their minds later. Zhuo Yuanxin and Dai Xin were one of these four couples.

With 997's help, Azhen found them and learned about their current situation.

Dai Xin took a sip of tea and finally calmed down. When she looked up at Azhen again, she was a little surprised. She had felt that Azhen looked familiar before, but now she looked even more familiar. She looked closely, afraid that she might be mistaken.

She tugged at Zhuo Yuanxin beside her, only to find that Zhuo Yuanxin also looked surprised, clearly not the only one who recognized the young woman in front of him.

The martial arts drama that aired a while ago was so popular that even my husband, who hasn't watched many TV dramas in years, praised it highly, saying that it brought back the feeling of watching martial arts dramas he used to have.

She finally couldn't help but ask, "Are you the actress Fu Zhen?"

"Hmm." A-Zhen nodded, noticing that both of them were looking at her, and even the worry on their faces had lessened somewhat. She found it a little amusing; it seemed she really was famous. Even these two could recognize her at a glance, which meant the drama had a wide audience. You see, many middle-aged people don't actually enjoy watching current dramas. For them, watching short videos and addictive dramas is much more appealing. "Did you contact us this time?" Dai Xin was indeed less nervous. Fu Zhen was a popular actress; she must have something else to discuss with them, definitely not some malicious purpose. Why would she be afraid of someone she recognized? She relaxed considerably.

Azhen smiled and said, "Yes, do you still remember that little girl you wanted to adopt at the Yue family orphanage? The procedures were all completed, but you suddenly changed your minds. I remember you didn't look too good. Something must have happened, right?"

She had learned that the two men were of impeccable character and were just ordinary people.

Zhuo Yuanxin and Dai Xin were shocked; clearly, they hadn't forgotten this incident, and it left a deep impression on them.

“Don’t worry, no one will know you met with me. Besides, we’ll talk about something else later. If it’s suitable, I’ll hire you both. Even if we don’t reach an agreement, the promised compensation won’t be less,” A-Zhen said. These two men each had their own strengths. For them, it wasn’t that they couldn’t find other jobs, but rather that finding work would be easy with their experience. It was just that they were carrying too heavy a burden; the compensation for new jobs was unlikely to be as high as before, and it wouldn’t be enough to cover their living expenses, which caused their anxiety.

Those who were able to earn high salaries back then all had some skills.

Now, she does need to hire some people to do her work, and these two individuals happen to be in the same field. Moreover, given their connection, hiring them is a perfect fit.

"Are you that little girl?" Dai Xin asked, a touch of emotion welling up inside her. Thinking back on it now, she still felt a pang of regret; she had genuinely loved that little girl from the orphanage. Of course, it was just a regret, though. Later, she and her husband adopted a lovely little girl, who is now their daughter, and the family lives happily together.

However, the couple's hearts were not at peace whenever they thought about this incident.

What happened to them after they completed the formalities was truly frightening.

"Is someone threatening you? I basically know who it is. They can't find you here, so just tell me," Azhen spoke again.

Her calm and fearless demeanor finally put the two of them at ease.

“Back then, when we were waiting for the paperwork to be completed, we came home from work and found all sorts of bloody handprints in the house. They also left us a note telling us to give up adopting you and not to get involved in this matter. They even jokingly said that we could call the police if we weren’t afraid.” Dai Xin slowly recounted the story.

Zhuo Yuanxin continued, "We were indeed scared. Although many things can be resolved by calling the police, there are also many things that cannot be resolved by calling the police. The police can't protect us 24 hours a day. So, we backed down, and we're sorry."

Azhen shook her head with a smile: "This has nothing to do with you. Given the other party's personality, if you don't back down, things probably won't go well."

These words startled the two men once again, but knowing that Azhen wasn't blaming them, they felt somewhat relieved. (End of Chapter)
