Chapter 312 The Daring Cubs
Raising cubs is hard work, but also full of fun.

The five-month-old snow leopard cubs followed their unreliable aunts as they hopped around on the snowy plains.

The main thing is to learn to find caves and catch food such as plateau rabbits and marmots.

The little guy has a strong learning ability, and now his best skill is digging rabbit holes.

It is small and can come and go freely in the rabbit hole.

After eating, I even packed some snacks for my aunts.

After more than ten days of continuous sunshine, all the snow on the wasteland has melted.

The withered and yellow grass roots were exposed, attracting many even-toed ungulate animals to wander down the mountain.

This area is a wasteland, but the overall terrain is actually a rolling hilly area. To the north is a mountainous area.

When the weather is cold, even-toed ungulates basically stay in the canyon between the two mountains. Only when the weather is clear and windless will they wander into the wilderness to look for food.

Four big cats, three big and one small, lay in a semi circle, watching the Tibetan antelopes moving in front of them idly.

Today's hunting time is over.

In the morning, they worked together to hunt two Tibetan antelopes. After eating their fill, they fed several vultures with the remaining food.

This leisurely life of lying in the sun is almost making Jin Ya reluctant to leave, and he even wants to stay and settle down.

But it quickly dismissed this idea because the weather was getting colder and colder, and Xiao Jin became less and less active. Apart from hunting, it almost grew up next to the heating stove.

The two-legged beast has been away these days. He said he went to see the little lynx.

Before leaving, I asked Jin Ya if she wanted to go with me, but she flatly refused.

The little lynx is still too young and in poor health, so it is impossible for it to live in the wilderness. Let's wait until it grows up next year.

Xiao Jin went along to see his "adopted son". Compared to Jin Ya, he was a responsible father.

After staying at the Heyuan Management Station for three days, Chen Ying and Xiao Song completed the first phase of data collection.

Next is a three-month observation period. When the weather gets warmer, the younger lynx and the little lynx will be transferred to a semi-wild release area to observe changes in their status in the wild environment.

Chen Ying rushed over. In addition to presiding over the summary of the first phase and arranging the tasks for the second phase, she also had to perform surgery on the two rescued animals.

One was a Tibetan brown bear, a sub-adult, about 1.3 meters long. It was fighting with other brown bears and had its leg bones bitten off and its shoulder blade torn.

The little guy was very pitiful. When he was found, his leg bones were already necrotic. In order to save his life, he had to undergo surgery to remove his right hind limb.

Chen Ying rushed over and performed a left scapula repair surgery on it. After the surgery, its movements will not be greatly affected.

Another surgical target was an elderly male lynx.

It was fighting with a snow leopard for food and fell off a cliff, fracturing its spine and becoming unable to move.

Fortunately, he was found in time by forest patrol members and sent back for rescue, otherwise he would not have been able to survive the cold wind and low temperature at night.

Neither of them could be returned to the wild after being cured.

Chen Ying contacted Qingye’s veterinarian to arrange for their transfer. In half a month, they will be sent to Qingye for further treatment, and will live there in their old age.

After finishing the work, Chen Ying was worried about her second daughter, Jin Ya, and the little boy, so she didn't bother to talk to anyone and packed up her things to go back to the pastoral area.

Yin Li came over to do some work and happened to pick up Xiao Song and take him back to the management station.

Before getting into the car, Yin Li received a call from the management station, saying that they had received an order from above to go out and search for the person together with two nearby management stations.

“Who to look for in the middle of winter?”

"Two herdsmen's children. Something happened at home, and they heard someone saying they could save their family by going to the Snow Mountain Goddess."

Yin Li rubbed his face and smiled bitterly, "Don't look at it that way. Many older herdsmen really believe in the existence of gods."

Chen Ying sighed and could only lament that "education still has a long way to go."

If you want to complain again, you have to find the person first.

"The two kids took all the dry food and the little dried meat they had at home, and also some dried milk cubes. It looks like they were planning to go to the highest snow mountain."

"The main thing is that they went there on horseback. Now the herders are helping to look for them, but since they were not found until a day later, we don't know where they are now."

"The most important thing is that the rangers at the ranger station discovered two packs of wolves outside their area."

Hearing this, the people around gasped.

Yin Li had already asked people to prepare everything and set off first, and he would follow with the second team.

People on vacation have to go too, as this is a matter of life and death.

"Now the pastoral villages have contacted the rescue team, and the forest police and firefighters are all helping."

A group that Duanmu joined was also talking about this matter, and many people spontaneously organized a rescue team to go in and look for people.

"Let's go too. Xiao Song, you stay in the center first. When someone finds us, we'll come back to pick you up."

"Okay, Brother Ying, Brother Li, be careful. Take the drone with you. If you need to prepare anything else, I'll help you load the car."

Chen Ying had originally packed a lot of supplies, which were New Year gift packages for the children in the pastoral areas.

It’s too troublesome to unload the truck now, and maybe it can be of some use.

Chen Ying's car is a modified one with dual fuel tanks and a range of over 1000GL.

There is also a 30L spare fuel tank in the car, which is enough to support them to walk to the bottom of the highest snow mountain and back.

The car that Yin Li drove was a diesel car with a range of over a thousand kilometers.

They planned to go to the Heyuan Management Station first, take the second team members and another car, and then go in from the east side of Heyuan.

"Team one will go the west, and we will go the east. It's likely that the two kids will also go the west, so this way we can go the shortest way."

After joining up with the second team members, the three vehicles rushed into the wilderness.

"The rescue team has dispatched a patrol helicopter, and no trace of the child or horse has been found within a 20-kilometer radius."

Team member Dajie was looking at his mobile phone while communicating with other team members through the walkie-talkie.

"Stationmaster, do you think those two kids will run to Sanjiangyuan behind?" Although the Snow Mountain Goddess Mountain in the hearts of the herdsmen is the highest snow mountain on the snowfield, there is also a legend of the Goddess Mountain in the national forest park on the east side of the highway.

"Don't worry about it for now. Just do as the command center asks."

"Stationmaster, we've started looking over there as well. If we work on both sides at the same time, we should be able to find it."

Yin Li didn't say anything. He couldn't guarantee whether he could find it.

There were also members of the maintenance area team in Chen Ying’s car.

They are a couple. They have been working here for more than three years and were transferred to Heyuan this summer.

Chen Ying asked the male team member Lao Ke to drive, and he released the drone to search and patrol.

"Lao Ke, stop ahead."

Chen Ying discovered a Tibetan fox. Half of its head appeared from behind a pile of sand, and it looked at them curiously.

Lao Ke's wife opened her mouth to say something, but held back under her husband's gaze. But her anxiety made her clench her fists.

After Chen Ying got out of the car, he went into full gear and quickly approached the Tibetan fox.

"I want to ask you something. Have you ever seen any two-legged animals shorter than me passing by your place? Two, about the same size, and a horse."

The Tibetan fox looked at Chen Ying in shock, and it took him half a minute to come back to his senses.

It can actually understand what this two-legged beast says!

"Ahhh." No, I didn't see it.

"Thank you." Chen Ying stood up and walked back anxiously.

The Tibetan fox chased for two steps and called out again, "Ahhhh!" No two two-legged beasts have been seen here since it snowed.

Chen Ying turned around, nodded at it, and got in the car.

"Ali, just go straight ahead. No human has come here since the last snow."

Yin Li received the message from Chen Ying and gave instructions on the intercom, speeding up and heading directly towards the snow mountain.

Lao Ke glanced at Chen Ying in the rearview mirror and felt an indescribable sense of strangeness in his heart.

Chen Ying had already released Xiao Jin from the transport cage and let it curl up in the back seat.

Xiao Jin saw Chen Ying's anxiety and licked the back of his hand warmly.

"Stationmaster, Team One has found nothing here."

They were almost at the agreed meeting point, but neither team had noticed anything.

We contacted other rescuers, but they also found no trace of the two children.

It was as if they had disappeared after entering the wilderness.

Logically speaking, the children of herdsmen understand the dangers of the wilderness. They have been taught from childhood not to go into the wilderness to play, or they will never be able to return home.

At the meeting point, two vehicles from Team 1 had been waiting for a while.

After seeing them, a team leader came over and said that they had seen basically nothing along the way except rabbits, foxes and vultures.

In the winter when even animals rarely appeared in the wilderness, those two kids were so brave that they actually dared to rush in on horseback.

Chen Ying put Xiao Jin down and asked it to help find out the news.

When we finished lunch and were about to continue on our journey, Xiao Jin brought back a message.

"Are you saying that there are wolves in the east who are planning to try to get a taste of the Twolegs?"

"I heard from them that a group of wolves found two-legged beasts under the nearest snowy mountain, and they wanted to go there too. There was too little food in the wilderness in winter, and there was a brown bear nearby, so the already insufficient food became even less, so they decided to try their luck."

Chen Ying's expression was a little solemn, and he found Yin Li and muttered to himself for a while.

"I haven't heard of anyone entering an uninhabited area alone." He thought for a moment and took out his cell phone.

"Hello, Officer Huang, I want to ask if anyone has been reported missing recently near the no-man's land."

The news is no.

Yin Li looked at Chen Ying and shrugged.

"Why don't we continue walking towards the snowy mountains and check along the way, just in case Xiao Jin made a mistake."

"Okay, we have to pass by that snowy mountain anyway, let's see what the situation is."

Chen Ying regretted not bringing Jin Ya and the others along. After all, Xiao Jin was a forest animal, and the wasteland was not its home.

At around three o'clock in the afternoon, they reached the first snow mountain.

A search and rescue team has been stationed here.

"How's it going? Did you find anything?"

"No, our captain said that we should set up the tent first, leave a few people to guard it, and the rest will go to the mountain to look for it."

There are two snow-capped mountains on the left and right here. To enter the highest mountain, you have to go through the canyon and walk northwest along the foot of the mountain.

The mountains here belong to the southern branch of the Kunlun Mountains, and are locally called the Hoh Xil Mountains.

The highest mountain is over 6,000 meters above sea level, and the other peaks have a drop of about 500 to 600 meters.

Don't underestimate this height of five or six hundred meters.

It is a plateau. For every hundred meters of altitude, the temperature drops by about 0.5 degrees and the oxygen becomes thinner.

In low-altitude areas, climbing a hill of a few hundred meters is easy, but on the plateau, a mountain of a few hundred meters can make a person tired to death.

Chen Ying and his team also planned to set up camp at the foot of the mountain on the other side, and then spread out their people to conduct a thorough search.
