Chapter 23 Persuasion
Jiang Yao, who was feeling very nervous, was very agile in his actions.

In just a few minutes, he had put away his fishing gear and stuffed it into the plastic bag he carried with him.

He did not take the net bag containing the two fish fed in the water for the time being. Instead, his eyes went straight to Wang Dahai next to him.

"What's wrong, Brother Hai?"

"I didn't hear your bell ringing. You're having such a hard time reeling in the line. What did you hook?"

Frowning slightly, Jiang Yao asked kindly.

"I don't know what it hooked, but it was very heavy."

"It can be pulled, so it's definitely not stuck on the bottom, but it's probably not a fish."

"Have you finished over there? Come, help me with the flashlight."

Circle after circle, Wang Dahai slowly reeled in the line. When he heard Jiang Yao's voice, he turned around and greeted him.

"It's heavy... something is hooked..."

With a start in his heart, Jiang Yao immediately thought of the scene when he encountered a dead fish while fishing at night two days ago.

"I didn't hear the bell ringing on his side. Maybe I was overthinking it. He must have hooked some debris at the bottom of the river, not the dead fish I thought."

After comforting himself with a few words, he took the flashlight handed to him by Wang Dahai, turned it on, and shone the light along the direction where the fishing line extended into the water.

It was pitch dark before and I couldn’t see anything on the water.

At this moment, under the light of the flashlight in Jiang Yao's hand, both he and Wang Dahai could see a shadow under the water, being dragged towards them little by little.

The shadow could be roughly distinguished as a human figure, but it was not very big, about the size of a baby.

As it was pulled closer, some messy hair like straw was already emerging from the water.

"Oh my god, could it be the body of a child?" Gou Zi and Bing Zai, who were on the other side of the beach, had also finished their work and waded over here.

Following the direction of Jiang Yao's flashlight, two people who also saw the scene started cursing.

But apart from the swear words, the two of them did not seem to be very timid.

After all, numbers can give people courage, and young people like them care about their reputation.

Many of their brothers are here, and even if some of them are already scared, they have to stay calm to avoid being laughed at for being timid.

"Even if it's really a corpse, so what?"

"I'm not afraid of living people, so why would I be afraid of death?"

Wang Dahai, who was still calmly reeling in the string, had a look of disdain on his face and spat fiercely on the ground.

Finally, most of the body of the thing in the water was dragged out of the water.

It turned out that it was not a child's body at all, but just a rag doll.

The straw-like messy hair that the others had seen before was just a wig made of fine black wool on the doll's head.

"I told you, it's the right time in this era. How can you easily fish out a corpse from the water?" Wang Dahai laughed.

He seemed to say it lightly, but there was always a sense of relief in his words.

The rag doll that had been dragged out of the water was still very heavy, but it was much easier to pull up than before.

In no time, Wang Dahai had dragged the thing to the rocky beach in front of him.

"The fishhook is stuck right on its mouth. It's such a damn thing. How can it take the bait?" Cursing, he took off the fishhook in a few moves.

It took him a few more minutes to collect the remaining fishing gear and put it in the plastic bag he brought with him. "Let's go, my luck tonight was average. I waited for a few hours and only caught a carp."

"I'm worried about whether I should stew this fish at home tomorrow or sell it on the street like Jiang Yao did!"

He didn't use a net bag to hold the fish, but carried a thick rope with him.

One end of the rope is tied to the middle of a small wooden stick. After the stick is passed through the fish's mouth, the fish can be trapped and cannot escape. The other end is a thin steel bar that can be inserted into the mud and sand on the beach.

After waving and saying hello to Jiang Yaobing and the others, Wang Dahai waded directly to the rocky beach near the shore, holding a plastic bag in one hand and the fish in the other.

"It's just a carp weighing two or three pounds. What's the point of showing off?"

"Look at Jiang Yao. The two grass carps he caught weigh at least 15 or 16 kilograms. What did he say?"

"Brother Hai, a full jar of water doesn't make waves, but a half-full jar of water creates waves..."

Gou Zi and Bing Zai had already prepared everything. They followed Wang Dahai with their belongings in hand. They looked unhappy and cursed with laughter.

As for Jiang Yao, he carried the fish net on his right shoulder and held a plastic bag containing fishing gear in his other hand. He looked thoughtful and followed closely behind the others.

"Could that black mist I sensed earlier be the rag doll floating in the water?"

"But this isn't right. My spiritual perception seems to be able to sense only living things. That rag doll doesn't look like it has life at all!"

"Besides, what about that distorted face I vaguely saw in the black fog?"

……

The more Jiang Yao thought about it, the more strange things seemed to him.

After walking more than ten steps forward, he couldn't help but look back.

After pulling the rag doll up, Wang Dahai removed the fishhook from its mouth and casually abandoned it on the beach at his feet.

But now, when Jiang Yao looked over again, he only saw a dark area there, and there was no trace of the rag doll.

However, it was too dark at night and he was not sure whether he had seen it wrong.

Should he go back and search carefully on the beach?

Well, Jiang Yao admitted that he had been feeling nervous for quite some time and it seemed that he still lacked a little bit of courage.

"Bingzai, Gouzi, look, is the rag doll that Brother Hai just fished up still on the beach?" Jiang Yao quickened his pace. Originally at the back of the pack, he now walked to the same level as Bingzai and Gouzi. He spoke tentatively.

"It's just a dirty rag doll. It's gone. What does it have to do with us?"

"That's right. If that thing isn't on the beach, it must have slipped into the water. Is there any need to ask?"

"Why? Uncle Yao, you suddenly ask this, do you still want to take this thing home as your wife?"

……

Several people didn't take Jiang Yao's question seriously at all.

None of them looked serious, including Wang Dahai who fished the rag doll out of the water. They all took this opportunity to make fun of Jiang Yao and started teasing him.

"That thing, I feel it's a bit weird."

"Brother Hai, as the person involved, please don't go out casually in the next few days."

"If possible, I suggest you find a wizard to help you, in Mawan Village..."

After crossing the rocky beach and walking along the river bank to the road near the bridge, Jiang Yao, who was sweating profusely from carrying more than ten kilograms of fish, once again tried to persuade Wang Dahai with kind words.
