Chapter 126 Steel City
Chapter 126 Steel City
Under the overcast sky, a city made of steel stood quietly like a giant mechanical beast.
Tall chimneys can be seen everywhere, like giant's fingers, stretching towards the sky.
Every chimney was emitting thick smoke, and the black smoke was swirling in the air, like countless giant black pythons swimming in the sky.
The air was filled with a metallic smell, mixed with the pungent smell of burning engine oil and coal, which was suffocating but impossible to ignore.
On a hillside not far from the city, three men holding hands suddenly appeared strangely. They were Steve, Matt and T'Challa.
After resting for a while in the secret hall, Steve carefully folded up Bucky's lifeless skin, carried it on his back, and passed through the clockwise rotating transmission channel with Matt and T'Challa, and appeared in this strange place.
"Is this the third floor?" Matt sniffed the turbid air, covered his nose uncomfortably, and frowned.
"Well, it shouldn't be wrong."
Steve stared at the steel city in the distance and said in a deep voice, "That's probably the city of the Mechanical Kingdom. I hope the portal to Earth is there."
"Look over there!"
T'Challa suddenly handed the telescope over excitedly, a rare smile on his face, "I think I have found the portal."
"Oh?"
Steve took the telescope and put it in front of his eyes. The scene in his field of vision suddenly became much closer.
He looked in the direction T'Challa had pointed, and saw a portal that looked like a black cloud appear over there.
Around the portal, densely packed clockwork soldiers were shuttling back and forth, as busy as a group of industrious bees.
Steve's heartbeat quickened. He gripped the telescope tightly, staring at the clockwork soldiers with his brows slightly furrowed. "It should be right. That's the portal. It looks like we're lucky. However, the guards there are tight, and it doesn't look that easy to break through."
"Well, we need to make a careful plan."
T'Challa said firmly: "Not only must we successfully break through the defenses and reach the portal, but we must also find my father's whereabouts. More importantly, we must find a way to destroy that portal."
"A way to destroy the portal?" Steve frowned.
This issue obviously touched upon a crucial point. Several people looked at each other, and no one could come up with an effective solution.
After all, no one had ever tried to destroy a portal; this was something unprecedented in their experience.
[Holy Lord, do you know? ]
Steve helplessly called out to the Holy Lord in his body in his heart, hoping to get some hints.
However, the only response he got was silence. The Holy Lord did not seem to intend to intervene in the matter, and did not even offer any suggestions.
There was a brief silence between them, each one lost in thought.
"If it really doesn't work,"
T'Challa finally broke the silence, his tone filled with determination: "We can only use all the explosives we have on us to see if we can blow up the portal."
Steve took a deep breath and nodded, "Well, this is our only option at the moment."
After discussing the plan, Steve and the other two each took out a piece of compressed biscuit and chewed it simply but eagerly.
The biscuits were dry and tasteless in their mouths, but at the moment they had no time to enjoy the taste. They just wanted to fill their stomachs and replenish their energy.
The biscuit crumbs rubbed against each other in their mouths, making a slight crunching sound that was unusually clear.
Soon, night falls.
Steve stood up, looked down at the steel city in the distance, and said in a deep voice: "Let's go."
It seemed that because there had been no foreign invasion, the city had no walls or checkpoints, allowing them to sneak into the city smoothly.
"Sure enough, they are all clockwork soldiers, there is not a single figure to be seen." They hid in a dark corner, and the cold wind whistled past them, bringing waves of chill.
The streets were empty, with only the mechanical clockwork soldiers patrolling silently.
Every movement of the clockwork soldier seemed to have been precisely programmed, uniform and lifeless.
The soldiers looked almost identical, their cold metal shells glowing with an icy luster in the moonlight, as if they were cast from the same mold.
The factories scattered throughout the city are undoubtedly the production bases of these clockwork soldiers.
"Captain, are we going to take a look inside the factory?"
"No need to waste time on them, our goal is the portal."
Steve turned his head and asked, "T'Challa, what's going on?"
"No, I can't find the signal of the Black Panther suit, and my father doesn't seem to be on this floor either." T'Challa fiddled with the signal receiver that Shuri had given him specially, and shook his head with a heavy face.
"Don't worry, maybe King T'Chaka has already gone back."
"Well, let's go ahead and destroy the portal!"
"it is good!"
The patrol route of the clockwork soldiers was very simple, and Steve and the other two easily mastered the pattern and avoided them safely.
Along the way, Matt parted ways with Steve and T'Challa and disappeared into the shadows.
His mission is to travel to another key location to pave the way for their plans.
Matt's departure left a hint of tension in the air, but Steve and T'Challa could only silently pray for his success.
Time passes silently, as if every second is infinitely stretched.
Finally, Steve and T'Challa approached the area where the portal was located.
The number of clockwork soldiers here has increased significantly, forming an invisible interception net.
Each soldier was like a precisely choreographed part, fitting perfectly in his or her position without any flaws.
Especially beside the portal, a square formation of several clockwork soldiers stood quietly, like an indestructible steel wall. Their eyes were empty and indifferent, as if they were waiting for some order to come.
"We can't risk going any further," T'Challa whispered, a hint of anxiety in his eyes.
Steve nodded, his eyes fixed on the darkness ahead. They could only wait quietly for Matt's signal.
They are on high alert, ready to deal with any possible emergencies at any time.
"It's almost time."
Steve spoke up while looking at his watch.
Just as he finished speaking, a roar was heard in the distance, and flames shot up into the sky, dyeing half the sky red.
The originally quiet clockwork soldiers suddenly became agitated, and almost half of them began to move towards the location of the explosion.
The explosion did not occur in just one place, but the roars were heard one after another. More and more clockwork soldiers were led away, and only a square formation of clockwork soldiers were left guarding the portal.
"Okay, now it's our turn. Let's go!"
Steve and T'Challa emerged from the shadows and rushed towards the portal at incredible speed.
