Chapter 513: Tired Mr. Weasley
Chapter 513: Tired Mr. Weasley
Harry had expected Mr. Weasley to be back soon, since he hadn't actually been working today.
After the Order of the Phoenix met again, Mrs. Weasley and Bill returned to the Burrow.
Happily shared everything there with Harry and the others.
He also mentioned that Mr. Weasley had to go to the Ministry of Magic for something and would be back soon.
But to Harry's surprise, after the moon was dim and the dinner had been warmed by a dozen spells, Mr. Weasley had not returned.
Mrs. Weasley looked anxiously at the grandfather clock from time to time. The longest hand, belonging to Mr. Weasley, always pointed steadily to work.
An unknown amount of time had passed, and just when Ron could hardly help dozing off, there was a loud bang, the flames in the fireplace turned green, and Mr. Weasley walked out in a panic.
The director's elegant uniform was soaked with sweat, as if he had just finished a marathon.
At the table, Mr. Weasley ate a big chunk of chicken with his hands, and couldn't help complaining, "The Ministry of Magic is very busy right now.
The Auror Office is considering inviting Frank and his team again.
The Experimental Spells Committee and the Magical Maintenance Department are at it again.
Molly: You know what a troublemaker Gilbert Whymper is, and how he seems to take pleasure in the misery of others.
Their committee happens to be responsible for overseeing the development and use of experimental spells.
Two years ago, he wanted to issue a subpoena to Harry because of his magical red spark charm."
Mrs. Weasley frowned. "What about that smoke bottle of Ron's?"
“He doesn’t have the guts to do that. He became much more honest after I became the director.
But it's starting to make him pick on people he used to despise. Like the Magical Maintenance Department." Mr. Weasley took another swig of his onion soup.
Percy on the side raised his hand and said, "I know it, Dad!
Members of this department all wear navy blue robes and are responsible for the administration and maintenance of the Ministry, including deciding what weather the enchanted windows in the Ministry's headquarters will display, repairing magical errors in various facilities in the Ministry of Magic, such as raining in the office, maintaining the elevators, ensuring that every fireplace in the main hall is equipped with Floo powder, and some maintenance of a less magical nature, such as cleaning.
"You're quite right, Percy." Mrs. Weasley kindly handed Percy a piece of meat pie.
She has always been more supportive of her children being like their father, entering the Ministry of Magic and having a decent and stable job.
Mr. Weasley on the side continued: "In short, Whymper always makes things difficult for Reginald Cattermole of the Magical Maintenance Department within the rules.
He said that his weather modification spell was different from the common one and needed to be reported.
And every other spell he could think of that might be useful in Cattermole's work."
"What else?"
"Tell me more, Dad!" Fred and George always liked to hear stories about the Ministry of Magic, but they were both extremely reluctant to work at the Ministry.
Mrs. Weasley did not understand this.
But Harry realized that they were both actually getting amusement out of listening to the Ministry's embarrassing stories.
This is actually not contradictory at all.
"Hmm?" Mr. Weasley was a little confused, but he always responded to his son's normal requests.
"There are also the old conflicts between the Muggle Mediation Committee, the Muggle Liaison Office, and the Office of Misinformation.
The Muggle Mediation Committee, whose job is to come up with reasons to explain magical events to Muggles.
The Muggle Liaison Office is responsible for relations between wizards and Muggles.
They are both part of the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes. The Office of Misinformation deals with the worst magical-Muggle conflicts.
It was their job at this time to liaise directly with the Muggle Prime Minister and seek a plausible non-magical explanation for the events that had occurred.
The work areas of these three departments actually overlap with each other.
Under normal circumstances, the Muggle Mediation Committee is a civilian job. They don't need to go out, and they only need to explain magical phenomena in a way that Muggles can understand - natural science. Compared with the Office of Misinformation, it is responsible for handling minor incidents.
The Muggle Liaison Office is out in the field, always travelling around the country to modify the memories of Muggles who know about the magical world.
As for the Office of Misinformation, it is a clerical job with a field nature.
Compared with the first two, it performs clerical duties and works at a fixed location - the Muggle British Prime Minister's Office.
But the problem is that these are just conventions.
Their responsibilities actually overlap.
To make matters worse, the Office of Misinformation, which has greater powers and overlaps with the work of two other departments, is actually part of another department - the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures at the Ministry of Magic.
The Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes has been arguing with the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures of the Ministry of Magic over this issue, wanting to abolish the Office of Misinformation or transfer it to their department.
But the Department of Biological Management and Control, which has such great authority, is naturally unwilling to transfer it.”
"Dad, why is the Office of False Information affiliated with the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, a department that has nothing to do with it?" Ginny couldn't help but become interested after hearing Mr. Weasley's long speech.
"Because wizards were once classified as magical creatures." Mr. Weasley shrugged.
"Also, within the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes, the Muggle Mediation Committee and the Muggle Liaison Office often argue over who should go out on field missions.
Anyway, I now understand how exhausted the Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement was at that time.
I don't even have time to study all that wonderful Muggle technology."
"But Dad, except for the Auror Office, none of the things you mentioned actually belong to your department.
If it really needs to be dealt with, shouldn't it be the boss of their superior department who handles it?
Or the Minister of Magic?" Percy, who was most sensitive to the division of responsibilities in the Ministry of Magic, asked in confusion.
“That would be great.
Our department is also responsible for formulating laws, rules and regulations.
The Auror Office is considering re-inviting Frank and his team, which is not in compliance with regulations.
I need to modify it or give special approval.
Wimple caused trouble for Cattermole without violating the rules.
This is clearly a problem with the system, and the advisory team and I need to make all the changes.
The overlapping work of the Muggle Mediation Committee, the Muggle Liaison Office, and the Misinformation Office also requires me to redistribute them, and then notify their superior departments to hold a meeting." Mr. Weasley said tiredly.
Mrs. Weasley couldn't help but walk forward and hugged Mr. Weasley, holding his head in her arms.
Harry and the others consciously looked at the food on the table.
Even Fred and George.
