Chapter 14 The Challenge of Folding Blankets

Five minutes to go until 2 o'clock, a whistle suddenly blew outside the dormitory.

Yuan Chaoyu had just brewed the tea but hadn't had a chance to drink it yet, so he had to leave it on the table.

Wenwei ripped the face mask off her face and, not seeing a trash can on the floor, simply tossed it onto the table.

Jiang Hanying sprang up from the bed.

The dormitory was instantly thrown into chaos.

Five minutes after the whistle blew again, Wenwei wiped the mask essence off her face that she hadn't had time to wipe off, and rushed out the door first!

Jiang Hanying and Yuan Chaoyu left the house a few seconds later, around the same time.

Viewers who remained in the live stream watched as the room instantly became empty.

There was still some tea left on Yuan Chaoyu's table that hadn't been wiped clean.

The face mask that Wenwei had used was still lying on the table.

The bed was fairly flat, since they hadn't slept on it before.

Only Jiang Hanying's bed had a very standard human indentation.

[This housekeeping is completely substandard!]

[If Jiang Hanying had tugged at the bedsheets before leaving, she might have gotten a passing grade.]

I really do need to practice!

The girls' dormitory and the boys' dormitory are not far apart, both on the second floor, less than 200 meters apart as the crow flies.

The only difference is that one person turns left and the other turns right when they come out of the stairwell.

The girls were thrown into chaos upon hearing the whistle, while the boys fared somewhat better.

Some people who wanted to be particular took a shower, while others who were too lazy simply wet a towel and wiped themselves down.

They are nowhere near as refined as girls.

Xi Ming was determined to perform well in the afternoon to wash away the shame of his "turtle-like" performance in the morning. He didn't even change his clothes and forced himself to stay awake. He was ready when he heard the first whistle. When the instructor blew the whistle for the second time at the entrance of the building, he was the first to open the door and rush out.

Gao Juyao, who was still fastening his belt, looked up and only saw the boy's back.

"It's good to be young, you have energy!"

He almost couldn't get out of bed!
As expected, Xi Ming was the first boy to arrive, and Wen Wei was the first girl.

[Xi Ming was quite cunning this time, but the training intensity will only increase later on. If he doesn't rest at noon, he might not be able to withstand the afternoon training.]

I bet you, within three days, these people won't even bother to shower when they get back to the dorm; they'll just collapse and won't be motivated at all!

When you're so exhausted from training that you're about to collapse, who cares about being clean? You probably won't even want to take your shoes off before going to bed.

Li Chengxiao put down the whistle in his hand and glanced at the seven people standing in front of him.

You can tell at a glance who is resting and who is not asleep.

However, he did not intend to emphasize how precious this one-hour lunch break was; these people would understand on their own in a couple of days.

"Go to the boys' dormitory!"

Eight people stood at the entrance of the boys' dormitory. Chu Yuan, who was walking in front and opening the door, turned around and looked at the three female guests who had followed him. He felt a little pressured.

[Haha, the girls' dorms are just a little messy, but the boys' dorms are more like doghouses.]

[It's too late to feel embarrassed now!]

[Didn't the drill instructors say this morning they'd be coming to the boys' dorm to teach them how to organize their rooms? Weren't these four even prepared?]

Knowing something is one thing; being able to do it when the time comes is quite another.

I thought I could clean it up, but the truth is, there's simply not enough time!

[Um, I remember Chu Yuan just stuffed his smelly, unwashed socks somewhere when we came out earlier?]

It seems to be under the pillow.

[Tsk, men!]

Chu Yuan pushed open the dormitory door as if facing death without flinching.

Li Chengxiao stood at the doorway, surveyed the room, narrowed his eyes, and then went inside. He casually stepped around a sneaker that had been kicked into the middle of the aisle by someone.

Xi Ming saw his shoes in the aisle and his ears instantly turned red.

Who, who kicked my brother's shoes out?

[It seems to be Yao Ge; he left in a hurry at the end.]

My little brother finally managed to be enthusiastic, but it was ruined by a shoe!

This room is such a mess I don't know where to begin. How did it get so messy in just one afternoon?

I sincerely hope that the instructor doesn't touch Chu Yuan's smelly socks.

Thank goodness, it landed right next to Old Xun's bedside.

Compared to the other three, Lao Xun's side is a bit neater, though only slightly, haha.

[Xun Zhou: My shining moment is here!]

"Let's not comment on the housekeeping for now," after all, if we were to comment, everything would be unacceptable. Li Chengxiao yanked open the quilt that Xun Zhou had folded crookedly. "Let me demonstrate how to fold a quilt first."

He stood on one side of the bed, while the seven guests stood on the other side.

They stared wide-eyed at the instructor's movements.

Even though Li Chengxiao deliberately slowed down, it still appeared to the guests as:
How come the blanket is so smooth with just a gentle swipe of this hand?
How was this perfectly right angle, which looks like a 90-degree angle, sculpted?

Why doesn't this quilt collapse?

Before I could even finish asking myself any questions, the instructor bombarded me with the crucial question: "Did you understand it?"

Several people:"……"

To nod or to shake one's head, that is a very serious question.

Li Chengxiao looked at the owner of the quilt: "You try it first."

Xun Zhou had already decided that he would sleep under a sheet for the next month.

As for the perfectly square, standard-sized quilt in front of us, it's naturally kept as a keepsake, only used during inspections.

Unfortunately, just as this idea formed in his mind, the instructor's hand trembled, and the blanket was once again neatly spread out on the bed.

Well, it turns out there are no shortcuts after all!
Xun Zhou could confidently guarantee that he had followed the instructor's steps meticulously.

But ten minutes later.

He looked at the quilt that he had finally folded.

Compared to the drill instructor's work I just remembered, it's not exactly the same, but rather completely unrelated.

He didn't even want to admit that it was made from the same quilt!
I just excitedly tried folding my blanket at home, and now I truly understand how difficult it is to fold it into the perfect square shape the drill instructor was holding.

[I even screen-recorded the instructor folding the dough, following each step one by one, but the final result was still almost the same as Lao Xun's. Where did I go wrong? Let me die knowing the answer!]

This is a classic case of eyes saying, "I've learned it!" while hands say, "I've failed!"

[Let me analyze this. First, you need to have strong hands; one swipe and the blanket is flattened inside and out. Second, your hands need to be steady; it's cloth, and a slight shake will easily wrinkle it. Of course, the most important thing is practice. I dare say even if the instructor closed his eyes, he could fold it into a perfect square; it's already become muscle memory.]

The analysis is excellent, but the method still won't work if you can't stack it.

[A soon-to-be freshman desperately seeking the hands of a male instructor!]

Xun Zhou painstakingly folded the quilt, which took ten minutes to complete, and then mercilessly shook it open again. "Unacceptable."

Xun Zhou gave a wry smile; even if he didn't say it, Xun Zhou already knew.

"You only realize how difficult this is after you try it!"

Li Chengxiao: "Next, the captain."

[As expected, I guessed that Jiang Hanying would be the next to try it after the blanket owner, after all, she's the team leader!]

A true captain's motto is: "If something goes wrong, I'll take the blame; if something happens, I'll shoulder the responsibility; even when nothing's wrong, I'll be on high alert."

[That's brilliant, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that!]
