As for TSMC, its 20-nanometer process is okay, but it is just okay. Its power consumption problem is very serious. AMD's chips have always had high power consumption. If they use a 20-nanometer process and maintain high performance at the same time, they really need water cooling to suppress it.

Finally, Zhiyun Microelectronics extended an olive branch to them, saying that it would be able to release some of its 18-nanometer process production capacity to them after January next year.

The technological upgrade and transformation of Zhiyun Microelectronics' other two 12-inch wafer fabs has entered the final stage, and small-batch trial production is currently underway. It is expected that customers will be able to provide 18-nanometer process production starting in December.

These two 12-inch wafer fabs will provide Zhiyun Microelectronics with an additional 18-nanometer process production capacity of 90,000 wafers per month. In addition to meeting its own needs, they can also be used for foundry production for external customers.

The production capacity can be said to be quite sufficient!
Under such circumstances, AMD finally chose to reach a foundry agreement with Zhiyun Microelectronics to use Zhiyun Microelectronics' 18-nanometer process to produce the next generation of chips.

This order is also a rare large international order for Zhiyun Microelectronics, especially since it is an order from a competitor of other sister companies of the group.

In order to obtain this order, Zhiyun Microelectronics made various commitments, not only in terms of production capacity scheduling, but also in terms of willingness to sign a confidentiality agreement and allow the other party to conduct supervision to avoid the leakage of their chip design drawings, which would lead to AMD's trade secrets being obtained by Vichi Technology.

This is also an embarrassment for non-independent chip foundry companies... people don't trust you very much and are worried that you will take the chip design drawings to the sister company next door.

This kind of trust requires long-term business reputation to accumulate, it doesn’t mean you won’t disclose it!
Zhiyun Microelectronics has accumulated some reputation through its large number of external OEM orders. In the process of manufacturing mobile phone SOCs for domestic Haisi, it has never leaked relevant information about Haisi SOC to Zhiyun Semiconductor next door.

Now, this accumulated trust has further expanded to overseas markets, making AMD willing to give it a try.

AMD and Zhiyun Microelectronics are willing to cooperate, which to some extent is also a potential alliance between the second and third largest companies in the industry, trying to jointly fight against the leading company Intel.

In the current CPU market, whether it is the desktop, mobile version, or the server market, Intel is the absolute leader, with a market share of more than 70%.

Very strong!
AMD is being squeezed out very badly, with a market share of only over 20%. Although Zhiyun's subsidiary Weichi Technology has a huge momentum, its market share is even worse, at only single digits.

The WZ2000 series chips are only popular in the DIY circle, but the overall market share is actually very low. The sales of Tongfang notebooks equipped with WZ2000U are okay online, but they have failed offline.

As for server chips, Weizhi Technology, a subsidiary of Zhiyun, has not yet launched X86 server chips, so it is simply a blank.

As for the SOP instruction set chip under Zhiyun Semiconductor, although it is also being shipped, the server chips, desktop chips, and mobile chips of the SOP instruction set are all special products, and no one will regard the SOP instruction set chip as a commercial competitor.

Even Zhiyun itself has never included the data of SOP instruction set chips and Pangu computers and other businesses, and then compared them among manufacturers!
Because no matter whether Pangu Computer is good or not, or SOP instruction set chip is good or not, external enterprises or individual consumers will not buy it, the ecosystem is too poor, and it is useless...

Pangu's self-developed computer business is currently exclusively for institutional clients and does not participate in market competition...

Because it cannot participate in market competition, Pangu Computer business can not bring any actual profits to Zhiyun Group... SOP chip research and development and the construction of software ecology every year are constantly consuming funds. Unless Zhiyun does not continue to invest its technical resources in the research and development of new chips and make continuous improvements to the ecosystem, and directly fools around with the first generation of Pangu computers for several years, it can make a lot of money.

But we can’t destroy Zhiyun’s brand!
Anything produced by Zhiyun must be high-quality, even the Pangu computer purchased by an institution is no exception.

Therefore, even if it does not make money, Zhiyun continues to invest in the research and development and updates of Pangu Computer's SOP instruction set chips, chipsets and other hardware, as well as operating systems and software ecosystems.
