Chapter 463 Daniel and Sam Cyclone
The first Monday of 2020 was the 6th. After the New Year's Day holiday, the agents returned to work in the tenement building. After meeting, they greeted each other and talked about their holiday life. They were all very happy.
At noon, Cooper rushed over. After arriving at Kerry's office, he handed him a document and said, "Lee, this is intelligence transferred from the CIA Middle East Intelligence Office. The source is the CIA's unofficial base in Zahedan, Iran. This matter is a bit serious for me. Please take a look."
Kerry opened the folder and saw that it stated: Just before New Year's Day, a white man in his fifties who looked down and out suddenly found the CIA station in Zahedan and claimed to be Daniel Hutton, a US Navy sergeant who had just escaped from the local anti-government armed forces and asked for help...
CIA agents in Zahedan questioned him and transmitted the information back to headquarters in the United States.
After receiving Zahedan's report, the CIA Middle East Intelligence Division was surprised to find that Daniel Hatton had disappeared in the Gulf War thirty years ago and had long been declared dead! After testing the photos, information, fingerprints and other evidence sent back, it was proved that the person seeking help was indeed Daniel!
Cooper explained, "Because this matter involves an old incident from 30 years ago, the CIA probably felt that something was fishy and didn't want to get involved, so they contacted me as Daniel requested. I was his comrade-in-arms back then, and before he disappeared, we were on the mission together!"
After reading the information, Carrie said, "Harold, what do you want to do about this?" He had already remembered the plot and now wanted to see if Cooper's reaction would still be the same.
"I want to meet Daniel in person." Cooper said, "I have some responsibility for what happened back then. I failed to stop him from doing stupid things..." He couldn't tell these things to others before, but now he took the opportunity to tell Monaco everything.
During the Gulf War in 1990, Cooper was only a lieutenant serving in Kuwait. His subordinate and comrade Daniel discovered that someone in the army was smuggling cash and funding Kurdish forces. He hated this despicable behavior that undermined regional peace and reported it to the Pentagon despite Cooper's warning.
Soon after, Cooper and Daniel were ambushed by Kurds while on a mission. Daniel was captured and Cooper asked his superiors for rescue but was rejected. Later, there was news that Daniel had been executed by the enemy. The military officially reported the terrorist attack, and Cooper was awarded the Navy Cross and promoted.
After listening to Cooper's narration, Kerry nodded to show that he understood, and asked, "Harold, there are two things you should know now. First, your current position is not suitable for going abroad privately. Second, the relationship between the United States and Iran is hostile. If you really go there privately, no one can bear the risk! So, you can't go."
Cooper knew that Carrey was right, but he would not be willing to go if he did not go there once...
Carrie continued, "Harold, with your current status, just give the order and ask the CIA to send Daniel back. Maybe he won't want to come back!"
Hearing this, Cooper felt that there seemed to be something behind Carrie's words, so he asked, "Lee, do you know something that I don't know?"
Kerry didn't answer his question directly, but asked back: "Have you asked Lao Lei about Daniel?"
"Reddington?" Cooper was stunned. "The real Reddington did know about this. He was a member of the supervisory team at the time and even testified about this matter in the military court. But this Reddington now..."
"I think he knows. He knows everything about Reddington." Carrie said, "Call him and ask his men in the Middle East to investigate this matter!" Cooper took out his cell phone and made a call. After hearing this, Reddington said with certainty, "Impossible! Daniel died thirty years ago!"
"But the fingerprint test has confirmed that it is him." Cooper said, "Reddington, how do you know this?"
"Of course I know. I was in Kuwait at the time!" Reddington said as a matter of course. "Let's take a step back. If this Daniel is real, he will definitely not be the Daniel of that year!"
Cooper didn't quite understand what he said, but Kerry did, so he explained, "This document says that Daniel said that he had been transferred to various local forces over the past 30 years, and finally escaped from the anti-government forces in southern Iran. This is totally unbelievable!
"If the Daniel now is real, then there is only one reason why he can survive: he betrayed us!"
"That's right!" Reddington's voice came from the phone on the table, "Lee is right, Daniel can only survive under such circumstances!"
-
After Carrie's persuasion, Cooper gave up the idea of going to the Middle East in person. Reddington contacted his subordinates there and asked them to investigate the truth of the matter.
After returning to Washington, Cooper personally called CIA Director Terrence Laurier and asked him to order Daniel Hatton, who was in Zahedan, Iran, to be sent back to the United States. No matter what happened to him, Cooper wanted to confirm it personally before he could feel at ease.
Director Laurel could not refuse the National Security Advisor's request and could only order the Middle East Intelligence Division to carry out the request...
Two days later, a shocking news came back: the CIA's Zahedan base was attacked by a terrorist organization, four people were killed and four were injured, and Daniel was kidnapped!
After receiving the news, Cooper was a little anxious and called Carrie to express his concern: he was worried about Daniel's safety.
Kerry said, "Harold, don't worry. Old Lei has already arranged for someone to find out the situation. Things may not be what you think!"
Cooper knew that he still meant to say that Daniel was a traitor. He didn't want to agree in his heart, but he knew that this was the most likely scenario, so he could only say, "Okay then! Lee, tell me as soon as you have any news."
-
That night, Reddington called and said, "Lee, the terrorists who attacked the CIA's Zahedan base were from 'Sam Tornado'!"
Kerry had already thought of it and found relevant information: "Sam Tornado" means "poisonous wind" in Arabic. It refers to a person who has appeared for more than 20 years. He is said to be the most dangerous intelligence leaker in the Middle East. The Western intelligence he provided to terrorist organizations posed a great threat to the regional situation. Western countries have wanted to catch him for many years, but have not succeeded. There is not even a photo of him!
"Let's find a way to track down this person!" Carrie said, "Daniel should be 'Sam Tornado'!"
