Overlord: Start from the Goblin Lair.
Chapter 537: Fragments of the Past
The tireless undead creatures rushed towards the two powerful cultists like a wave day and night. In the small mountain village, layer upon layer of rotten flesh and bones piled up. However, even so, it still could not stop the man and woman from moving forward.
Night after night, the small village had been left behind by the two people from the Gray Ruins Dragon Society. As the dim sun in the sky rose and set, the thick fog that shrouded the surroundings dissipated silently, no longer providing shelter for the dead.
The stench and miasma emitted by the corpses paralyzed the nerves of Graz'zt's followers, causing them to pile up on the narrow roadside with wooden faces like zombies. Even though the aggressive undead seemed to intentionally avoid them, they were still unable to avoid casualties.
Ten of the fourteen people had already fallen dead on the roadside. They died, were revived, and died again. The injuries on their bodies made it impossible to tell what had killed them. Only the injuries on the four survivors who were barely alive showed that half of the injuries were from the explosion of magic energy, and the other half were from the blunt force trauma of some alien boxing gloves.
Expected.
The only good news is that as the two cultists brazenly killed their way up the mountain road and approached the mountain village step by step, the villagers finally had the opportunity to rescue the survivors back to the village under the guidance of the wise man. In this process, they did not resist, but they did not actively cooperate. According to the report of the returning "villager" (a Babu demon), they were "sunken like stones."
"Damn it!" An orc began to examine the injuries of the four wounded and tried to treat them. During this time, his vulgar abuse rang out from time to time, "This leg must not have been amputated just now! And this woman - look at her mouth!"
The mouth that was forcibly stretched open by external force was more like a huge festering wound than a "mouth". What's more terrible was that the wound led directly to the internal organs and was inextricably linked to other organs besides the stomach.
It's a miracle that this woman can survive to this day.
"They are not ordinary people. You misjudged them before," the orc priest muttered in the house by the stream, and continued to transfer his remaining magic power to the magic circle in front of him. "What should we do now? Even so, you don't plan to escape?"
"Be consistent, green-skinned friend," a hazy voice like a dream sounded in the priest's ear, "Thank you for your warning, so that we would not be caught off guard when facing the villains - now you can leave, there is still time."
"There's a path towards the back of the village... I don't know why, but it's clear these two people are coming for us."
"Be consistent, my friend Moth," the orc priest raised his eyelids, "We are not here to watch you die clearly."
"Since your undead creatures can't stop us, we should move on to the next stage. I see you still have quite a few big guys here..."
"They are just empty shells, including me," the Filthy Demon said calmly, "But this is not a problem I need to worry about. Although if we die here, we may end up in a miserable situation, it is not easy to kill us in the material world..."
"Not necessarily."
A sneer came from outside, and the faces of the orc priest and the filth demon suddenly changed. Almost at the same time, accompanied by a miserable cry, the body of a Babu demon was blasted into the village from the entrance like a cannonball, leaving deep gullies on the ground before slowly stopping in front of them. The unique mucus on the Babu demon's body was almost evaporated, revealing only the thin body, but this scene did not last long. Just as the filth demon was about to go forward to check, a muffled sound like a sigh came from the demon's body, and in an instant, the creature, which was originally made of soul fragments, disintegrated into a pile of ashes and scattered with the wind.
No rebirth, no return, nothing.
"What have you done to it?!" The Filthy Demon looked at the man and woman in front of him in horror. The surrounding orcs, demons and even ordinary villagers swarmed over, but the weak majority were completely unable to stop them from slaughtering the surrounding lives. Before, when they were at the foot of the mountain, because they were facing undead creatures, this ability of these two people was not revealed. When their claws reached out to the creatures, all the villagers and demons who were killed would turn into ashes out of thin air and be annihilated.
Only the orcs seemed unaffected by this. Most of them were simply seriously injured and unable to fight again after taking the attacks from the two cultists. Only two or three of them fell unwillingly in a pool of blood.
"So that's how it is. A group of ghosts that were supposed to be heading for destruction." The bald woman looked at the scene in front of her and seemed to understand something. She couldn't help but smile from the bottom of her heart. "No wonder my Lord specifically ordered to pay attention to this place. There is actually such a story."
"Who are you? Why do you come to disturb our lives!" The Filthworm turned into a shadow, and its long and deadly tongue shot out like a sting, pointing directly at the male cultist who had attracted the attention of the orc priest. However, the latter seemed to have expected it, and blocked the fatal blow that almost pierced his brain with his chain boxing gloves. When he swung his fist again, the bones made several noises in the sound of breaking wind, and the old orc priest was blasted into an earth wall by him, vomiting blood.
"Life? Haha, hahahaha!" The cultist called Wright by his companions laughed wildly with a distorted face, with joy from the bottom of his heart, "You are just a group of dead souls that should have been devoured by our Lord long ago! From the day you set foot on our Lord's territory and embezzled our Lord's property, you should have known what price you would pay!"
"You are wrong, demon! We are only here to collect the debt you have owed for centuries - go to hell!"
The female cultist looked at the beastmen around her again: "I wonder why, you seem to know our whereabouts in advance, it turns out there are some rats following us - since you like to help others so much, I will send you to die together!"
The orc priest tried to resist, but was soon hit on the shoulder by a powerful magic explosion. The huge injury forced the old man to fall back into the hole that had just been smashed in the earth wall. He looked at the two cultists with resentment: "You... won't succeed! This is a fantasy land. You dare to kill people on the lord's land--"
"Lord? What lord?" Wright glanced at her with contempt. "Old thing, just lie still. I will kill all your people in front of you. This is the price you have to pay for disrupting our plan."
"As for the lord? He is just another group of rats who steal our Lord's food. After we clear out these 'remnants of the past', it will naturally be his turn—"
"Chi", a light sound suddenly rang in Wright's ears. The bloody past made him turn his head quickly, and he protected his cheeks with boxing gloves to try to defend against the cold arrow that came from nowhere.
But it was in vain. When he put his hand down, a streak of foul-smelling purple-black blood appeared clearly on his barren head. (End of this chapter)
