Chapter 84

"I'll go check on him." Shang Wan wanted to go out, but Xiao Huan quickly stopped her and handed her a set of clean clothes. "Sister, change out of your wet clothes first, I'll go."

She picked up a pot lid, put it on her head, and ran out.

Shang Wan: Hmm... We're missing an umbrella at home.

"Mom!" Yuanyuan scrambled over quickly, like a little cannonball, and tried to pounce on Shang Wan.

"Wait a minute." Shang Wan reached out and picked up the little guy, keeping a distance. "I'm all wet. I'll hold you later."

"Daddy!" Yuan Yuan called out anxiously, her short arms and legs flailing about. "Red!"

Shang Wan frowned, "Red?"

"Hot!" Yuanyuan blurted out another word in a hurry.

Red? Hot?
Is he sick?
"Okay, Mother understands." Shang Wan didn't hear anything unusual, so she gently shook her anxious child. "Don't worry, let's go see Father together."

She walked quickly to the cubicle where she and Lu Chengjing lived. The door was open, and Shang Wan craned her neck to look inside.

Lu Chengjing was wrapped in a blanket, facing outwards, with his eyes closed, his brows furrowed, and his black hair at his temples soaked through, clinging to his flushed cheeks.

She really did have a fever.

Yuanyuan called out "Daddy!" and flapped her short little legs, trying to get down.

Shang Wan put her down, turned around and closed the door. She quickly changed into a clean set of clothes by the door before going over.

Shang Wan reached out and touched Lu Chengjing's forehead to check his temperature. She frowned, guessing that he had caught a cold while waiting for her to come back last night, and that's why it hadn't come out until now.

She pried open Lu Chengjing's mouth and fed him two drops of spiritual spring water.

"Mommy." Yuanyuan crawled over and hugged her mother, rubbing her little face against her mother's shoulder affectionately.

Shang Wan gently patted the little one's back, and only after she stopped rubbing did he say softly, "Daddy will be fine in a little while, don't worry."

With her little head bobbing around, Shang Wan carried her out and placed her on a soft cushion.

Xiao Huan helped Shi Tou inside; not only was Shi Tou soaked to the bone, but she was also drenched.

The two women changed their clothes and came out to find out that Lu Chengjing had a high fever. Xiao Huan immediately blamed herself for being too careless and not noticing that something was wrong with her brother-in-law.

Shang Wan comforted her, "It's not your fault. Everyone gets sick sometimes. Besides, you have a lot of things to do, and you also have to take care of Yuanyuan. How can you watch over him every second?"

"I gave him his medicine, and he'll be fine after a nap."

Xiao Huan felt a little better. Thinking that all three of them had been caught in the rain and might catch a cold, she quickly put the earthenware pot on the fire and started boiling ginger soup.

While Xiao Huan wasn't looking, Shang Wan dripped a drop of spiritual spring water into the container.

Shi Tou ran to the cubicle to check on Lu Chengjing before coming back to help Shang Wan clean the things in the bamboo basket.

The little turtle went into its shell to sleep, and Yuanyuan, having lost her playmate, crawled over to join in the fun.

Stone was worried that the dead snake would frighten her, so he deliberately blocked it, but Yuanyuan's attention was entirely on the fruit wrapped in leaves.

The little one picked up a fruit, tilted her head to look at her mother, held the fruit high, and exclaimed, "Cheers!"

Shang Wan glanced at it, "Too hard, you can't bite it."

Little Yuanyuan is not afraid of difficulties. She holds the fruit in her two little hands and takes a bite with her millet teeth. The sour and astringent taste quickly takes over her taste buds.

"Ptooey!" The little guy decisively spat out the bit of green skin he had gnawed off, his little face instantly scrunching up like a bitter gourd.

Shang Wan laughed and picked up a slightly larger fruit to tease her, "Want some more?"

"Cloth!" Yuan Yuan pouted and threw the fruit aside with obvious disgust, then crawled to find Xiao Huan to ask for the milk bottle.

A moment later, Shang Wan and Shi Tou gathered all the herbs. Shi Tou took out a medical book, checked it against the herbs again, and breathed a sigh of relief after confirming that he hadn't made a mistake.

Shang Wan patted the boy on the shoulder, "Not bad, keep it up."

"Hehe." Stone grinned, revealing a set of big white teeth. Just as he was about to say something, his nose itched, and he sneezed loudly.

"The ginger soup is ready." Xiao Huan ladled two bowls of ginger soup from the earthenware pot and invited the two of them over to drink. The ginger soup was moderately spicy, with a unique aroma of ginger, and because of the addition of red dates, it also had a hint of sweetness.

After drinking a bowl of ginger soup, my body felt warm from the inside out.

Shang Wan served a bowl to the private room and found that the flush on Lu Chengjing's cheeks had subsided, leaving only a slight pink tinge. He looked even better than when he wasn't sick.

Lu Chengjing's lips moved as he mumbled in his sleep.

Shang Wan listened intently, and all she could hear were words that didn't form complete sentences: grandfather, mother, no, no, father...

Her eyes darkened slightly, and she reached out to gently pat Lu Chengjing's cheek, "Wake up, wake up."

Lu Chengjing's eyelashes trembled as he was pulled from the darkness of his nightmare by a familiar voice. He slowly opened his eyes, his dark eyes, still misty with tears, staring blankly at Shang Wan.

"Drink the ginger soup before you sleep." Shang Wan helped him sit up and lean against her, then picked up the soup bowl next to her and brought it to Lu Chengjing's lips.

Lu Chengjing lowered his eyes and pursed his lips slightly.

Shang Wan stared at his trembling long eyelashes and said softly, "You need to take good care of your health. Don't stay outside in the cold while waiting for me to come back. If you get sick, you'll be the one who suffers."

"You are my wife." Lu Chengjing released the rim of the bowl, his pale lips turning a rosy red from the warmth of the ginger soup, his voice slightly hoarse, "How can I be at ease without you returning?"

Shang Wan: "I can take on a hundred people by myself, what are you worried about?"

Lu Chengjing pursed his lips and remained silent, refusing to drink any more ginger soup.

He becomes a bit childish when he's sick.

"Drink it while it's hot." Shang Wan brought the soup bowl closer, deliberately teasing her fox. "You can wait if you want, wait in bed, and warm up the bed while you're at it."

Lu Chengjing sipped his teasing from the rim of his bowl, glanced at her with his eyelids, and gave a muffled "hmm," his breath causing ripples to spread across the soup bowl.

"Good boy." Shang Wan leaned over and stole a kiss on the face. After the boy finished drinking the ginger soup, she tucked him back into bed.

Shang Wan tried to take the soup bowl out, but her skirt was pulled back.

Lu Chengjing's long black hair was loose behind his head, his chin buried in the quilt, looking listless. His left hand reached out from under the quilt and gripped the corner of his skirt tightly.

Shang Wan raised an eyebrow, feeling that this move was somewhat familiar.

She said, "Let go first, I'll be right back."

"Okay." Lu Chengjing's eyelids drooped as he responded, but his hand did not loosen its grip.

Shang Wan: "..."

Oh well, she's my own fox, I'll spoil her.

"Move over a bit, I'll lie down with you for a while."

Shang Wan took off her coat and lay down in the spot Lu Chengjing had given her. As soon as she settled down, a large, skinny guy moved closer to her.

Shang Wan was quite surprised. She casually put her arm around him and patted him on the back, saying, "Go to sleep. We'll eat in a bit."

A muffled response came from beside me, and after a moment, the breathing became even.

Shang Wan wasn't sleepy at first, but now, lying in her warm bed and listening to the pattering rain, she gradually felt sleepy and closed her eyes to sleep.

When I woke up, the rain had stopped.

Lu Chengjing was still asleep. Shang Wan reached out and touched his forehead. It was slightly damp with sweat, and his temperature had completely returned to normal.

The aroma of food wafted through the door, and Shang Wan's stomach rumbled loudly.

Seemingly awakened by the noise, Lu Chengjing opened his eyes and was stunned when he saw Shang Wan, not understanding why she was there.

Shang Wan blinked. "You held me back and wouldn't let me leave. You wanted me to sleep with you. You were even more clingy than Yuan Yuan. Don't you remember?"

Lu Chengjing's lips parted slightly, his pupils trembling. He...he's clingy?!
