Chapter 60: Insufficient Reasons

Lu Chengjing was startled and reflexively pulled his hand back.

"Don't move," Shang Wan muttered softly. "Why are you still so cold under the covers?"

Warmth emanated from their clasped hands, as if transforming into a warm current that flowed from their hands into their hearts.

Lu Chengjing opened his eyes, stared at the light-filled roof for a long time, and quietly moved to the side until his shoulder touched Shang Wan's before stopping.

Shang Wan leaned her head closer to Lu Chengjing and asked sleepily, "What's wrong?"

Are you going into town tomorrow?

"Ah."

Lu Chengjing said softly, "I want to go."

"Your leg injury hasn't healed yet." Shang Wan opened one eye to look at him. "Give me a reason to bring you along."

Lu Chengjing pondered for a moment and said in a low voice, "I am somewhat concerned about Tian Sheng's suicide by poison. While Lord An is still in the county town, I would like to ask him about the progress of this matter."

"No, the reason isn't sufficient," Shang Wan rejected. "I can ask for you while I'm at it."

Lu Chengjing: "There's also the matter of disaster relief grain."

Shang Wan rejected the idea again, saying, "Similarly, I can ask for you too."

Lu Chengjing: "..."

"Is there any other reason?" Shang Wan glanced at him. "If not, I'll have no one to sleep with."

"Yes." Lu Chengjing squeezed their clasped hands, his ears turning red before he could even speak. "I...I want to...be with you."

The last two words were barely audible, yet they reached Shang Wan's ears precisely.

Ms. Shang said that chatting like this made her feel less sleepy.

She propped herself up, reached out and skillfully found Lu Chengjing's red ear, pinched it, and said with a smile, "The reason is not sufficient, but you are allowed to add to it."

Replenish?

A series of question marks popped into Lu Chengjing's mind. He tried to ignore the strange sound in his ears and asked softly, "What do you mean?"

"Scholar, you are so intelligent, of course you have to think for yourself."

Lu Chengjing's mind inexplicably flashed back to the interest Shang Wan had demanded from him, and his heart began to race uncontrollably. He gripped Shang Wan's hand even tighter.

Feeling the pressure on her hand, Shang Wan leaned closer and asked with a smile, "So you've figured it out?"

A faint fragrance lingered in his nostrils. Lu Chengjing closed his eyes briefly, then suddenly tilted his head back, his pale lips gently touching Shang Wan's cheek.

In an instant, his cheeks flushed red as he turned his head away, his long eyelashes fluttering wildly, and his voice was soft and hoarse, "Is it okay now?"

Shang Wan blinked. To be honest, she said she only wanted to add a reason so that Lu Chengjing would say a few more nice things. She didn't expect such a pleasant surprise.

She looked at the slender neck of the person in front of her, which was exposed outside the inner garment, and this time not only her ears and face turned red, but even her neck turned red.

Tsk tsk, will her fox spontaneously combust from embarrassment?

Unable to suppress his desire to tease the shy beauty, Shang Wan coughed lightly and deliberately said, "Not enough, it needs to be supplemented."

Anything else to add?
Lu Chengjing's eyes widened slightly in surprise. Before he could react, Shang Wan quickly lowered her head and stamped his smooth neck with a soft "pop".

Lu Chengjing: !!!

"Alright, that's enough now." Having gotten the better deal, Mr. Shang pulled his stunned fox into his arms and wrapped them both in the blankets.

Lu Chengjing blinked slowly, clearly feeling a slender arm draped over his waist and abdomen. He heard Shang Wan's soft murmur in his ear, "Your waist is too thin. You should eat more and gain some weight so it will be more comfortable to hug you."

Lu Chengjing: "..." The next day.

He didn't know when he fell asleep, but a warm feeling lingered around him. When he woke up, Lu Chengjing was still a little dazed, and his left hand subconsciously reached to his side.

I didn't get a sweet wife, but I got a chubby baby.

"Daddy!" Yuanyuan went over enthusiastically and pouted her little mouth to give her father a loud kiss.

Lu Chengjing patted his daughter and politely declined Yuanyuan's request for the little turtle to kiss him as well.

Hearing the commotion inside, Shi Tou came in to help Lu Chengjing put on his coat, muttering, "Brother-in-law, how did you convince my sister to bring yours? I begged her for ages but she wouldn't agree. Can you teach me?"

As the events of last night flashed through his mind, Lu Chengjing felt a burning sensation in his ears. He coughed awkwardly, "If you come with us to the city, Xiaohuan and Yuanyuan will be left alone at home. How can we feel at ease?"

"Little Grey is back." Stone helped fasten the belt and muttered, "It's the same whether I'm here or not."

He looked at Lu Chengjing and said, "Brother-in-law, please teach me."

“You can’t learn your brother-in-law’s methods.” Shang Wan pushed the door open and came in, holding a wooden comb in her hand.

Stone looked miserable. "Sister, I..."

"Alright, let's go together." Shang Wan interrupted the boy. "The Zhang family's oxcart has been borrowed back. You'll be in charge of driving it, and we'll all go into town together for a stroll."

"Alright!" Stone jumped up excitedly, but bumped his head on a horizontal wooden post and squatted down with a "whoop" in pain.

Yuan Yuan let out a "woof" and raised her chubby little hands to cover her head, clearly feeling the pain.

Stone:"……"

You didn't hit your head, so why are you yelling like that?
Shang Wan chased the two clowns out and took a wooden comb to comb Lu Chengjing's hair.

But she still combed her own hair in small loops, and apart from making her long black hair tangled, she made no progress whatsoever.

Shang Wan decisively gave up and asked Xiao Huan for help.

After the family had breakfast and told Xiao Hui to take good care of the house, they drove the oxcart into town.

The disaster situation in the county town was relatively good. Apart from three houses, two restaurants, and one inn that were severely damaged, the rest of the area was almost unaffected. There were no cases like the ground cracking that occurred in Yushu Village.

After the initial panic subsided, the city quickly returned to its former order under the organization of the government.

After paying the entrance fee, Shi Tou easily entered the city. After asking around, he drove an oxcart to the largest woodworking workshop in the city.

Li Dashan is temporarily unable to help make a wheelchair, and Lu Chengjing's leg won't recover anytime soon. Even if Shang Wan can carry him, it's still not as convenient as him moving around on his own, so a wheelchair is still necessary.

"Please come in, sir." The shop assistant at the woodworking shop warmly welcomed Shang Wan and his party in. "Our shop has all kinds of tables, chairs, benches, beds, screens, and desks. What would you like to buy, sir?"

Shi Tou placed Lu Chengjing in the nearest armchair and asked the waiter, "Do you have a wheelchair?"

"Yes." The waiter quickly glanced at Lu Chengjing's legs, his face beaming. "Sir, you've come to the right place. In this whole city, we're the only shop that sells wheelchairs. Please wait a moment, sir, and I'll bring out all the wheelchairs for you to choose from."

There were quite a few people in the woodworking workshop. When they saw the worker pushing out four wheelchairs, they couldn't help but look over curiously.

These days, not many people buy wheelchairs. It's not that they don't need them, but wheelchairs are too expensive. Usually, it's only important people who need them who send someone to the woodworking workshop to place an order for a custom-made one.

Of the four wheelchairs in the woodworking workshop, two were ordered by important people who drew up designs but never sent anyone to pick them up, and were later simply discarded. The other two were kept in reserve for customers in urgent need.

Shang Wan glanced at them and felt that apart from the carvings and materials, the styles were all pretty much the same.

The shop assistant smiled and explained, "The wheelchairs in our shop are all meticulously crafted by experienced artisans using high-quality materials. They're warm in winter and cool in summer."

Shang Wan was speechless. Why would a wheelchair need to be warm in winter and cool in summer?
The waiter said to Lu Chengjing, "Sir, why don't you sit down and try it out?"

Just as Shi Tou was about to step forward to carry Lu Chengjing, a male voice came from behind, "Oh, isn't this Scholar Lu? With your leg broken, why don't you stay in this poor, remote place? How dare you come out here and embarrass yourself?"
