Chapter 6 Waste Utilization
With a dull thud as the heavy object hit the ground, a woman screamed in the courtyard, followed by chaos as people shouted for help and called for a doctor.

The sound of hurried footsteps grew louder as the village chief, Lin, returned with his two sons and the village's barefoot doctor, Yuan Langzhong.

Upon seeing Chen San's condition, Physician Yuan said that he was dying and told him to prepare for his funeral immediately.

"Brother Yuan, San'er is the only son of the Chen family. If anything happens to him, the Chen family line will be cut off. Please, have mercy and give him some medicine to save him!" Chen Guifang rushed forward and grabbed Doctor Yuan's arm to stop him from leaving.

Doctor Yuan sighed, "He has many broken bones and damaged internal organs. He's only hanging on by a thread. Even if we manage to save him, he'll be crippled and will spend the rest of his life in bed, needing to be taken care of."

Unable to bear the shock, Chen Guifang rolled her eyes back and fainted.

"This is just adding to the trouble!" Village chief's wife, Liu, quickly told Lin Lao Er to take the man back to his house to lie down, and then asked Lin Lao Da to go to Liushu Village to inform the Chen family to come over, so that the Chen family wouldn't blame them if Chen San really died.

After much persuasion from Village Chief Lin, Doctor Yuan finally agreed to treat Chen San's injuries, though he couldn't guarantee whether Chen San would survive.

Village Chief Lin thanked him repeatedly. While Dr. Yuan was setting Chen San's bones, he beckoned Liu to come to the courtyard to talk.

Liu's eyes were fixed on the house. "Husband, why don't we carry the person out first and treat their injuries outside? It's the same. It would be so bad luck if someone died in our house!"

"Shut up!" Village Chief Lin glared at her. "That girl Er Ya said Chen San suddenly flew in from outside the yard, is that true?"

"It's true! It almost hit me on the head." Liu said with lingering fear. "Husband, do you think Chen San's enemies have come looking for us? Could they be targeting our family? Beating someone up like this, they're deliberately trying to kill us."

“No outsiders have come into the village today. Who in our village would dare to mess with him?” Village Chief Lin said with a grim face. “Didn’t you all go out and see who threw him in?”

Liu shook her head. At that time, she was panicked and scared. She was only thinking about not letting anyone die. She didn't care about anything else.

"Fool!" Village Chief Lin cursed angrily.

Ms. Liu felt wronged, but dared not utter a word in rebuttal.

Remembering that Doctor Yuan was still alive, Village Chief Lin suppressed his anger and didn't continue cursing. Instead, he lowered his voice and leaned closer, "I'm asking you, did Chen San say where he was going when he left?"

"The second son's wife said he went to find Luo Si and Liu Er." Liu Shi paused, looking up at her husband. "Husband, did he see that hairpin? Could he be going to find..."

"Shut up!" Village Chief Lin glared at her warningly, then glanced at the house. Seeing that Doctor Yuan wasn't paying attention, he lowered his voice and said, "Keep your mouth shut! When the Chen family comes, you'd better stay quiet and keep your mouth shut tight!"

Hidden in the tree, Shang Wan lowered her eyes and stared at the two people whispering in the courtyard, her gaze deepening.

It was no coincidence that Chen San came to their door.

But why?

"You and your second son keep an eye on the house." Village Chief Lin bent down, patted the mud off his trousers, and said to Liu, "I'm going to check on the Luo and Liu families."

Madam Liu hurriedly asked, "Husband, the house is in a mess right now, what are you doing going to those two houses?"

"Never mind that." Village Chief Lin put his hands behind his back and strode out the door.

The branches of trees outside the courtyard swayed gently; the person standing on them had already left.

Shang Wan slapped the unconscious Liu Er awake, and under the terrified gazes of Liu Er and Luo Si, she pried open their mouths and threw something at each of them.

"What did you feed us?" Luo Si coughed forcefully, pinching his neck, trying to vomit.

"It's nothing," Shang Wan smiled. "Just a little bit of poison that will cause your intestines to rupture, blood to flow from all seven orifices, and excruciating pain." The two of them: !!
Xiao Huan quickly covered her round little ears.

Little Yuanyuan was completely oblivious to the scary things her mother was saying. With her short arms, she tried to pull the straw rope that was tying up the wild duck, wanting to pluck its feathers.

"Don't worry, taking the antidote regularly won't kill you." Shang Wan looked at Luo Si and Liu Er, holding up two fingers. "Now, I'll give you two choices. First, I'll throw you into the mountains to feed the wolves, guaranteeing you'll die a gruesome death. Second, I'll let you go home and give you the antidote regularly every month."

Which one do you choose?

"Two!" Luo Si and Liu Er exclaimed in unison. Who would want to die if they could live?
“Not bad, you know what’s good for you.” Shang Wan approached the two of them. “Before I let you leave, you have to help me first…”

She lowered her voice and said a few words, coldly glancing at the two of them, "If you mess this up, don't wait until the poison takes effect, I'll still throw you to the back mountain to feed the wolves."

Liu Er and Luo Si quickly made guarantees, fearing that Shang Wan would go back on her word, and even swore a solemn oath to heaven.

Shang Wan untied the ropes for the two of them.

As soon as his hands and feet were freed, Liu Er immediately began tearing his clothes, not only his own but also Luo Si's. Xiao Huan was so frightened that she swung a kitchen knife at him, which almost grazed Liu Er's head before Shang Wan caught it.

Liu Er glanced at the gleaming blade of the cleaver with lingering fear, then quickly rolled on the ground a few times, smeared mud on his face, and also smeared some of Luo Si's blood on his clothes.

Once the two were in a sorry state, Liu Er carried Luo Si, who had a broken leg, on his back and ran outside. After running a distance, he shouted for help at the top of his lungs.

Xiao Huan was so anxious that she raised her foot to chase after him, but Shang Wan stopped her.

She was completely bewildered. "Young Madam, weren't we supposed to hand them over to the authorities? Are we just going to let them go like this?"

“It’s temporary,” Shang Wan said. “Don’t worry, they can’t escape. Let’s make use of them for now, and hand them over to the authorities once we’ve figured everything out.”

Xiao Huan trusts Shang Wan the most right now. She scratched her head and asked, "How can we make use of this waste?"

"You'll find out later."

Two hours later, the elderly Chen couple arrived at Yushu Village, crying and wailing, and started arguing with the Lin family. Almost the entire village ran to watch the commotion.

While cleaning the fish, Xiao Huan peeked towards the village chief's house, but of course she couldn't see anything, only hear some noises.

"Young Madam, we can hear the arguing even though we're this far away."

"They didn't just argue, they even started fighting." Shang Wan overheard this and, annoyed by the noise, stopped paying attention. She grabbed the little chubby hand and kissed it twice, making the little guy squint his big eyes and softly call out "Mama."

The wild ducks nearby, plucked bare, quacked mournfully.

The commotion at the village chief's house lasted for almost half an hour before it subsided. Liu Er and Luo Si claimed that the three of them encountered a bear while hunting pheasants in the mountains, and that Chen San was injured by the bear.

Because the three of them always shared the same pants, and given that Luo Si had broken both legs and Liu Er's hands and face were covered in blood, indicating he was also seriously injured, the villagers believed their story.

The elderly Chen couple stayed at the Lin family's house for the time being, and would take Chen San back once he was out of danger.

As evening fell, Stone returned, stepping on the last rays of the setting sun, dejectedly bringing back bad news.

Three days later, Lu Chengjing will be escorted to the capital for execution.
