Chapter 32: Curing a Jerk of Words for Twenty Years

Shang Wan: "Take the kids for a casual stroll around the village."

Aunt Zhou happened to be weeding in the field and asked with concern, "How is Yuanyuan's injury?"

"Thank you for your concern, Auntie." Shang Wan smiled. "I had Doctor Yuan examine her yesterday, and thankfully, no bones were broken. Doctor Yuan gave her some medicine; she needs to rest for ten days to half a month so that she'll know she can't run around like that in the future."

She got up and plucked a handful of bright red cherries from the biggest cherry tree in the field, wrapped them in a large leaf, and handed them to Shang Wan, saying, "These are homegrown, for Yuanyuan to eat and play with."

"Thank you, Auntie." Shang Wan accepted the gift on Yuan Yuan's behalf without any hesitation.

"Oh my, what a little baby! She's already thanking her grandma." Aunt Zhou held Yuanyuan's uninjured little hand and shook it affectionately. "Grandma will pick some more and take them to your house in a little while."

"Auntie, don't spoil her. She's teething and shouldn't eat too much." Shang Wan thanked Aunt Zhou again before saying goodbye and carrying Yuanyuan to the Li family's house in the north of the village.

The Li family were carpenters in the village, and you could hear the sound of planing wood coming from their yard even before you entered.

Shang Wan knocked on the door and called out, "Is Li Dalang home?"

"You're here!" Li Dashan wiped the sweat from his forehead with a towel and came to open the door. He was taken aback when he saw Shang Wan. "Who are you?"

He was working at home yesterday and missed the Lin family's festivities, so he didn't know Shang Wan.

Li Dashan invited the guests in, and Li Xiaomei, seeing that guests had arrived, quickly went to the kitchen to pour water.

Li Xiaoshan happily ate the cherries, then took out a cornbread from his pocket and gave half of it to Yuanyuan.

The pancakes weren't soft to begin with, and they got even harder when they got cold. Yuanyuan couldn't bite into them but refused to give up, her saliva dripping down her face. Li Xiaoshan didn't even have time to eat himself; he was busy wiping her saliva.

Li Dashan brought over a few drawings for Shang Wan to see, "That's it, just a general shape and approximate dimensions are enough."

Shang Wan thought it would require a very detailed drawing, but she could draw something like this on paper.

She immediately replied, "I have the blueprints; I'll bring them to you this afternoon."

Shang Wan looked around and saw that the Li family's not-so-large courtyard was filled with many wooden objects, some large and some small.

"Brother Li, do you have any door panels here? My door panel is broken, and I'd like to buy a new one."

"Brother Jianshan," Li Dashan greeted him, then peered over the shoulder at the donkey cart and asked, puzzled, "What's wrong with Auntie?"

Liu was lying on the donkey cart with her eyes closed, her head wrapped in a thick white gauze, her old face covered in bruises, as if she had been severely beaten.

Mrs. Zhou sat beside her, taking care of her.

Lin Jianshan said with a dark face, "I fell by accident."

Li Dashan was surprised. How could someone fall and get hurt like that?
However, seeing that Lin Jianshan looked unwell, he wisely refrained from asking further questions. He pulled Li Xiaoshan aside and made way for Lin Jianshan to drive the donkey cart first.
