Chapter 29 Calculate the Interest
Lu Chengjing's handsome face, with its sharp features, was stretched into a pancake shape by her. He managed to utter four words through gritted teeth: "Full of flaws."

Shang Wan: "..."

So, is it her fault for acting badly?

As the pain on his face intensified, Lu Chengjing couldn't help but reach out and grab Shang Wan's wrist. His usually cold, dark eyes welled up with tears, and a hint of red appeared at the corners of his eyes. The skin on his face, which had been healed by the spiritual spring water, was now completely red.

Shang Wan clicked her tongue lightly, ultimately unable to bear the thought of losing that face.

She let go of his hand and looked at Lu Chengjing, who looked like he had been bullied terribly. Suddenly, she felt cheated and reached out to rub Lu Chengjing's face a couple more times, thinking about how to fatten up her vase so that it would feel better to rub.

Lu Chengjing felt annoyed as she kneaded, pulled, and rubbed him like dough. Why did this woman always like to touch him inappropriately?

He got annoyed, and Shang Wan's anger subsided. She reached out and grabbed a handful of loose strands of hair from the side, playing with them.

Lu Chengjing lowered his eyes and saw it, his brows furrowing slightly. "You... really like playing with your hair?"

“Correction: I like playing with beautiful women’s hair.” Shang Wan looked up, her gaze falling on Lu Chengjing’s slightly disheveled collar, her tone full of regret. “It’s because the beauty is shy and won’t let me play with anything else.”

Lu Chengjing was slightly stunned. After realizing what she meant, he blushed to the roots of his ears and could no longer lie down. He tried to sit up by supporting himself with his left hand, but Shang Wan suddenly rolled over and pinned him down. The two of them looked at each other and their eyes met.

Looking into Shang Wanqing's clear and bright eyes, Lu Chengjing saw his own embarrassing situation, and his face flushed even more.

He turned his face away, revealing his bright red ears.

Shang Wan just wanted to tease him.

This person is as easily amused as ever; before they've even done anything, they're already as red as a boiled shrimp.

"Your ears are so red, what inappropriate things are you thinking about?" Shang Wan leaned closer, her hot breath hitting Lu Chengjing's ears.

"No." Lu Chengjing was so flustered that he started to stammer, "You, you, you get off."

"Right away." Shang Wan pinched his chin and turned his head around. Under Lu Chengjing's tense gaze, she leaned her fair right cheek over and kissed his pale lips once, then once more.

The soft, warm touch that belonged only to his skin made Lu Chengjing's eyes widen in surprise, and he forgot to react.

"The extra amount will incur interest." Shang Wan, having successfully used her charm, smiled and pulled him up, smoothing his hair as she asked, "If you weren't catching someone cheating, why did you go to the inn?"

Lu Chengjing pursed his lips, the soft touch still lingering on them, with a faint scent of herbs and trees.

With his long eyelashes half-closed, he said slowly, "A servant from the Qiao family came to deliver a message, saying that Yu'an drank too much at the Fuyuan Inn and got into a fight with someone. They couldn't persuade him and were worried that Yu'an would be punished when he returned to the mansion, so they asked me to go to the Fuyuan Inn to help persuade him."

"Is that servant really from the Qiao family?"

“Yes.” Lu Chengjing nodded. “When I visited the Qiao residence, I saw him once in Yu’an’s courtyard.”

If he hadn't been certain that the servant was Qiao Yu'an's man, he wouldn't have rushed to Fuyuan Inn, and the subsequent events wouldn't have happened.

Shang Wan asked, "Have you informed Qiao Yu'an about this?"

"No." Lu Chengjing's voice was very soft.

Shang Wan grabbed his chin and lifted it up, staring into his eyes. "You suspect that Qiao Yu'an is the one who sent the anonymous letter to Tian Sheng?"

Lu Chengjing remained noncommittal, only saying, "When Li Wenhua was drunk and revealed Tian Sheng's secret, Yu An happened to come looking for me. I don't know how much he overheard."

Shang Wan frowned. "You didn't tell Lord An about this."

She used a declarative sentence.

“It’s just a guess, there’s no evidence,” Lu Chengjing said. “I’ve known Yu’an for many years, and he’s not the kind of person who hides a knife in his sleeve. I… I don’t want to suspect him.” “It shouldn’t be him,” Shang Wan said, feeling that Qiao Yu’an didn’t seem like a cunning person. “You’ve known each other for many years. Even if a waiter from an inn came to say that Qiao Yu’an was in trouble, you would have rushed over to see. Qiao Yu’an wouldn’t need to use someone close to him to send a message, just to arouse your suspicion.”

Lu Chengjing also thought of this.

Shang Wan said, "Then you still have to tell Qiao Yu'an about this. If that servant has really been bribed, keeping him around will be a disaster."

“I’ll write…” Lu Chengjing paused, then, remembering his numb right hand, changed his words, “Tomorrow we need to return the oxcart. I’ll have Shi Tou make a trip to the Qiao residence to deliver a message to Yu’an.”

Shang Wan glanced at his right hand dangling over the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed), said nothing, and turned to leave.

In the kitchen, Shi Tou was tending the stove and brewing medicine. When he saw Shang Wan walk in, he couldn't help but turn his head away and chuckle.

Shang Wan patted his head, "You were all bitter and resentful just now, but now you're laughing quite happily."

Stone scratched his head; he was just happy for his young master.

He just saw them lying on the same kang (heated brick bed) whispering to each other, and their relationship seemed even better than when they were in the mansion.

After his initial joy, he couldn't help but worry again, "Sister, is it really true that the young master can't get better?"

Shang Wan put down her water glass. "I'm not a doctor, why are you asking me?"

Stone immediately showered her with compliments, saying, "I think you're better than the doctor."

Shang Wan: "My intuition was pretty accurate."

"That's right, my intuition has always been..." Shi Tou paused, looking at Shang Wan, his mouth widening in disbelief. Was that what he meant? Was that it?
"Sister, sister...do you have a way to cure the young master?"

Shang Wan chuckled and nodded; the kid's reaction was quite amusing.
"Sister! You're my real sister!" Stone jumped for joy, his eyes sparkling with admiration.

After feeding the wild ducks, Xiao Huan came in and asked in confusion, "Shi Tou, what are you jumping around for?"

She was secretly crying just now, how come she's so happy now?
Stone couldn't wait to tell Xiao Huan the good news, and then another person in the kitchen went crazy.

Shang Wan sighed, wishing she hadn't told those two.

She instructed the two of them, "This is something only we family should know; you mustn't tell anyone else."

The two nodded repeatedly.

Shi Tou couldn't help but ask, "Sister, what kind of medicine do you need? I'll go to Brother Yuan's house and buy it right away."

"Not for now." Shang Wan pointed to the medicine pot. "The medicine is almost burnt."

"My medicine!" Shi Tou hurriedly tried to save his medicine, while Shang Wan took Xiao Huan out and asked Xiao Huan to tell him about the progress of the house repairs.

Xiao Huan was just about to bring this up with her.

"Uncle Zhang said that our house was originally an old house that had been converted, and no one had lived there for several years. Rats had gnawed on many parts of it. Brother Zhang also found two termite nests on the roof beams. We don't know if there are any elsewhere. If the wood is hollowed out by termites, the house will be uninhabitable."

"Uncle Zhang thinks that instead of repairing the old house, it would be better to tear it down and rebuild it, which would eliminate many potential problems. So far, they have only replaced the tiles and filled in the large holes in the walls. They haven't touched anything else, and they are waiting for you and the young master to come back and make a decision."

Xiao Huan asked, "Sister, should we repair the house and continue living there, or tear it down and build a new one?"

Shang Wan looked around at the thatched houses where only the tiles were new and asked, "How much silver is needed to build a new house?"
