Chapter 242 Witness

Just as I was thinking this, the carriage suddenly started moving.

Caught off guard, Hua Niangzi quickly hugged the baby in her arms to prevent him from falling.

The curtain was lifted, and a cold wind blew in.

With a loud thud as a heavy object hit the ground, a figure in plain clothes appeared inside the carriage.

"Mommy!" Yuanyuan stretched out her little hands to the person who came, wanting a hug.

Shang Wan took her and kissed her soft little face.

Yuanyuan hugged her mother's neck, her big eyes curiously staring at the large cloth bag twisting on the ground.

"What is this?" Hua Niangzi was so frightened that she pulled her feet back onto the stool, hugged her knees, and peered out.

Lou Niangzi kicked it, and the sack twisted more violently, making a "uh-uh" sound.

"Good heavens, it's a person!" Lou Niangzi almost jumped up in fright and quickly pulled her foot back.

Madam Shu regained her composure and moved closer to Madam Hua. "Manager Shang, why did you bring back... a person?"

"Oh, I just caught him on the spot." Shang Wan said calmly. "He could be the murderer."

Girls: “!!!”

murderer!!!

Seeing the women staring at her with wide eyes, Shang Wan explained, "There are too many soldiers in the compound, making it difficult to interrogate and easy to be discovered."

Girls: "..."

There's no need to tie them up and bring them back!

This is the murderer!!!
·
The carriage sped back to the Red Plum Inn. Lou Niangzi ran up to the second floor and opened the window of Shang Wan's room.

Shang Wan carried the large sack and leaped up to the second floor, then flipped over and entered through the window.

"Quickly, quickly, close the doors and windows!" Hua Niangzi said, afraid of being discovered, and quickly closed the windows as she spoke.

Madam Shu hurriedly closed the door.

Lou Niangzi held Yuanyuan in her arms, her eyes fixed nervously on the cloth bag on the ground.

The woman who was pulled over looked bewildered. What was going on in this rush?
Shang Wan squatted down and untied the drawstring of the cloth bag, revealing the person inside.

A handsome young man, who looked somewhat frail.

The young man had struggled all the way and was already covered in sweat. His eyes were wide open, bloodshot, and he stared angrily at Shang Wan, while he kept making "mmm" sounds through his tightly gagged mouth.

"Who is this?" Madam Meng was so shocked that she leaned back. How could she have gone out and brought someone back with her?

Madam Shu pulled her arm aside and explained in a low voice.

After hearing the explanation, Madam Meng's suspicious gaze lingered between Shang Wan and the man.

"If you want to die, don't yell." Shang Wan pulled the gag out of the young man's mouth, and at the same time raised her hand, as if she would beat him up if he dared to yell.

The young man glanced at her hands, glared at her, and coldly demanded, "Who are you? Why are you tying me up?"

"Who I am is unimportant." Seeing that he didn't shout, Shang Wan lowered her hand and stared into his eyes. "You killed the fat chef?"

"No." The young man's eyes flickered slightly, but his tone was very certain.

Shang Wan scrutinized his expression. "Then let me ask you another question. Did you see the murderer?"

"No." The young man denied it without thinking, but his eyes darted away, not daring to meet Shang Wan's gaze.

Seeing this, Shang Wan flicked her wrist, and a black dagger appeared in her hand.

The dagger twirled gracefully between her fingers, and Shang Wan's lips curved into a cold smile. "Those who lie will have their tongues cut out."

The cold, sharp blade grazed the young man's warm cheek, leaving a thin scratch.

A trickle of bright red blood flowed down the wound. A slight stinging pain came from the wound, and it felt like an ice cube was pressed against his skin, chilling him to the bone. The young man's tense body couldn't help but shiver, and his gaze involuntarily followed the dagger.

"I'll ask you one more time, did you see the murderer?"

The young man bit his lip, meeting Shang Wan's gaze as if she were looking at a dead object, and an endless chill rose from the bottom of his heart.

This woman wasn't just trying to scare him; she really meant to cut out his tongue or even kill him.

The women watching were all shocked by the sudden murderous aura emanating from Shang Wan. Shang Wan now looked more like a murderer than the young man.

Hua Niangzi opened her lips slightly as if to say something, but Lou Niangzi pulled her hand and shook her head at her.

Over there, the young man, unable to bear the palpable murderous aura, stammered, "I... I did see a figure, but it vanished in a flash. I didn't see its face. I'm not sure if that person was the murderer."

Shang Wan stared at him for a while, making sure he was telling the truth.

"What are the characteristics of that figure? Is it tall or short, fat or thin, or does it have any distinctive features?"

The young man lowered his eyes and said, "I only saw it once, I didn't see it clearly."

"It seems you really don't want this tongue anymore." Shang Wan narrowed her eyes and, before the young man could close his lips, stabbed the tip of her dagger inside.

The young man's pupils constricted in fright. Just as he was about to shout, his tongue was pressed against a cold, hard object.

Shang Wan was very careful; even though the dagger had touched the young man's lips and tongue, she didn't make a single cut.

The young man strained to open his eyes, looking at Shang Wan with pleading eyes.

"Third time's the charm. Next time, this dagger will slice off your head." Shang Wan gently twirled the dagger, scaring the young man so much that his mouth gaped open, and he froze, not daring to move his eyes.

With the dagger withdrawn, Shang Wan grabbed the young man's shirt hem and wiped the drool off it.

The young man swallowed hard, his Adam's apple bobbing, and said in a hoarse voice, "Not tall or thin, that person is missing a piece from his left ear."

"What's missing?"

The young man tried to raise his hand to signal, but both his hands were tied behind his back and he couldn't move at all.

Shang Wan took the cleaned dagger and probed his left ear, starting from the tip. "Here?"

No, go down.

"Here?" The dagger was brought to the middle of the ear.

"Yes." The young man answered while nervously watching Shang Wan's movements, afraid that Shang Wan might 'accidentally' cut off his ear.

Shangwan has no such plans for the time being.

"If you're not the murderer, why are you hiding?"

As the dagger disappeared, the young man breathed a sigh of relief. Having witnessed Shang Wan's methods, he dared not hide anything any longer and honestly said, "I was afraid the murderer would come back for me, so I wanted to find a place to hide first and come out after the soldiers finished their search."

"Are you stupid?" Shang Wan looked at him speechlessly. "Everyone else is hiding, but you are. It's like you're trying to hide something obvious. Aren't you just making it clear to everyone that you have a problem?"

The young man was stunned. Is that so?
Shang Wan continued, "Why didn't you tell the officers that you saw the murderer?"

“I didn’t see it clearly, and no one can testify for me. I’m worried they’ll treat me like the murderer.”

This reason is reasonable.

Shang Wan asked, "One last question, what are your responsibilities in the caravan?"

"Bookkeeping," the young man replied. "I'm in charge of the caravan's accounts. The owner wants to sell the caravan and ordered me to handle the accounts properly. I was tired from keeping the accounts and came out for a walk, and I didn't expect to see a figure dart out of the house."

Fear flashed in the young man's eyes. "I'm worried that he's already seen me and will come back to kill me to cover it up."

The women looked at each other, realizing that if they were in the same situation as the young people, they would probably have hidden themselves or run away. Nothing was more important than their lives.

"Can you do me a favor?" Shang Wan put her hand on the young man's shoulder, her smile sweet and friendly.

youth:"???"
