Chapter 771 "One more kiss, okay?"

Noel held the beast egg in his palm and carefully placed it into the incubator's groove.

He adjusted the temperature and humidity of the incubator, his fingertips lightly sliding across the control panel, his movements a few seconds faster than usual.

Perhaps because he heard the conversation behind him, his fingers unconsciously quickened their pace.

……Um?

Noel tilted her head slightly, her black rabbit ears, which she hadn't bothered to restrain, were exposed to the air.

How could he not remember that the snake clan had the strictest rules and was the most demanding towards the cubs?

They had to be assessed by the clan elders right after birth, and those who were not qualified were sent away without even being given a name.

He had seen those young cubs that had been sent away, curled up in the snow on the edge of the snake clan's territory, their scales not yet fully grown, their eyes not yet opened, already judged as "not worth keeping".

I never imagined I'd hear Duke Platinum say something like, "Let the newborn cubs play for a few years."

“But…” Yu Zhizhi lowered her head, “What will the snake clan think of you if you take the dragonfish baby back?”

The Duke's golden, vertical pupils, fixed on her, flickered uncertainly in the candlelight.

"Why can't a snake and a rabbit produce a dragonfish?"

His voice wasn't loud, it could even be described as soft, but every word was like a nail driven into wood, impossible to pull out.

Yu Zhizhi stared at him blankly.

This snake-clan man with dark blue hair, golden vertical pupils, and a deep purple robe spoke in a lazy, nonchalant tone, as if he were commenting on the weather, a statement that would make any snake-clan elder faint on the spot.

“But… genes, bloodline, and the rules of the snake clan…” She felt her eyes getting hot.

"If I say yes, then yes." The Duke's voice was still the same, low and languid, but his tone had changed, from nonchalant to unquestionable.

Noel leaned against the incubator, her eyes slightly lowered, her fingers still clutching the soft cloth used to wipe the eggshells.

Well, that has always been the Duke of Perrin's style.

Moreover, he now practically holds absolute power within the snake clan.

The elders in power in the snake clan have long been replaced.

Even if news came one day that Duke Perlan was going to form a bond with this little rabbit, Noel wouldn't be surprised.

Seeing the little rabbit's eyes redden, the Duke wiped away her tears with his fingers: "Don't think about these things. Go to bed and rest. I'll take care of everything."

"Um……"

Yu Zhizhi did feel very tired.

She slowly walked to the bedside, obediently lay down in the quilt, and finally looked at the incubator. She could vaguely see the machine operating, and the beast eggs were emitting a red glow.

Yu Zhizhi began to look forward to the day when the baby arowana hatched.

She had already prepared a potion that could conceal its scent.

I hope everything goes well.

When Yu Zhizhi woke up, it was already late at night.

The dormitory was quiet.

Even the incessant, low-frequency humming outside the window, characteristic of the city center, seemed to have been turned down, drifting in from afar, muffled, through a thick, invisible layer of cotton wool.

Yu Zhizhi's first reaction was to sit up and look for the Duke.

he's gone?
The thought was like a bucket of cold water poured over her head, completely dispelling any lingering sleepiness.

Yu Zhizhi threw off the covers and stepped barefoot onto the floor. The chill crept up from her feet, but she didn't care.

She walked briskly across the living room, past the incubator that was still running quietly.

The beast eggs inside glowed with a pale golden light in the dim light, like tiny, ever-burning nightlights.

Yu Zhizhi's gaze lingered on the ball of light for a moment, then shifted away and continued walking forward.

The terrace door was half open.

The night breeze squeezed in through the crack in the door, cool and carrying the unique smell of the city, a mixture of metal and fuel.

Yu Zhizhi pushed open the door and stepped barefoot onto the terrace tiles. The night breeze lifted her long, flowing hair and the hem of her nightgown. She saw a figure sitting in a rocking chair.

The Duke leaned back in his rocking chair, relaxed, his deep purple robe slipping off his shoulder to reveal his pale, well-defined collarbone and a small section of his shoulder.

His dark blue hair, falling an inch below his shoulders, with slight curls, accentuated the man's cold yet alluring features.

He had his eyes closed.

One hand rested on the armrest, fingers long and pale, fingertips pointing downwards, slightly curled. The other hand held a wine glass, the champagne inside reduced to a mere sliver.

On the round table.

A bottle of champagne, already opened, stood in an ice bucket, the ice mostly melted.

Yu Zhizhi stood at the entrance to the terrace, her rabbit ears tilting slightly backward in the night breeze.

The jumping gradually calmed down from rapid to normal, and then changed to a different rhythm.

It was a light, soft heartbeat, tinged with a little bit of grievance and a great deal of relief. So, the Duke was still alive.

Yu Zhizhi slowly walked over.

She reached out and gently touched his cheek with her fingers.

The air at night is cool and dry, carrying the sweet scent of champagne and the crispness of the night breeze.

Yu Zhizhi didn't want to wake him.

She knelt down, gently pressing her forehead against his knee. His rabbit ears were slightly tucked in, and the beating of his heart was exceptionally clear in the night.

The Duke woke up.

He hadn't had such a peaceful sleep in a long time.

I felt a slight touch on my knee.

He looked down and saw the little female rabbit sitting on the ground, her forehead gently pressed against his body.

"How long have you been waiting?" His voice was hoarse, with the languid nasal tone characteristic of someone just waking up.

Yu Zhizhi lifted her face from his knees, her rabbit ears perked up slightly, revealing her slightly flushed forehead and a pair of clear rabbit eyes.

She opened her mouth, as if to say, "Not long."

But the Duke's arm had already risen from the rocking chair armrest, wrapped around her shoulder and back, and lifted her up from the ground.

next second.

The Duke's lips landed on the tip of her rabbit ear.

It was like a snake's tongue gently touching her most sensitive skin.

Yu Zhizhi's body trembled slightly. She opened her arms and hugged the man in front of her.

"I thought you had already left." Her voice was soft, muffled in the crook of his neck, carrying a hint of barely concealed, damp grievance.

When the Duke heard the little rabbit say those words, a part of his chest softened.

His hand slowly slid from her back to the back of her head, his fingertips threading through her loose hair, gently supporting it.

The moment Zhizhi looked up, he kissed her.

Yu Zhizhi's eyelashes trembled, then slowly closed. Her fingers, which had been gripping his robe, loosened and instead climbed onto his shoulder.

On the terrace, only the neon lights flowed silently, along with two overlapping, increasingly slow breaths.

The Duke's kiss deepened, and the hand supporting the back of her head tightened its grip, not allowing her to escape.

Suddenly, the little rabbit bit him.

He lowered his gaze, creating some distance, and looked at Zhizhi's blushing cheeks and her charming complaint: "Too heavy..."

Ugh~ My tongue went numb, I almost suffocated.

"Then I'll be gentler and kiss you again, okay?" The Duke turned his face to the side, his breath brushing against her rabbit ears.

He coaxed in a low voice.

See you tomorrow~
