Chapter 53: Flowering and Fruiting

Time flies. Three months later, Song Jin'an was able to walk independently and had recovered to almost the same level as a normal person. Her child was almost five months old and was discharged from the hospital on the same day as her.

On the day of discharge, the driver from the old house came to pick me up.

"Young Madam, the young master asked me to take you and Miss back to the old house first."

Lin's mother held the child. Song Jin'an was now somewhat afraid of the drivers who came from the old house. The car accident on the overpass was a lifelong shadow for her.

Just as she hesitated, Wei Zhou suddenly appeared in front of her: "Madam."

After negotiating with the driver again, Song Jin'an felt a little relieved when she heard Wei Zhou say that Gu Xijue had asked him to drive.

When she arrived at the Gu family's old residence, she got out of the car. The old housekeeper was already waiting at the door. When he saw Song Jin'an, he hurriedly stepped forward and said, "Young Madam, you're finally back."

After saying that, she glanced at the baby in Lin Ma's arms, her eyes crinkling with wrinkles, and said with a smile, "The old master has been waiting for you and the young lady for a long time. Hurry up, or he will get angry."

Song Jin'an nodded and followed the old butler to the courtyard where Old Master Gu was recuperating. When they arrived, they found that Gu Donglin and his wife were already talking to the old man.

When she came in, everyone's eyes were on the little dumpling in Lin Ma's arms. However, Madam Gu's eyes were filled with more disdain. She thought to herself that it was just a girl, and there was no way the old man would like her.

Grandpa Gu's gaze was also on the little bundle of joy tightly wrapped in his arms, and he beckoned, "Bring him over here so I can have a look."

Lin's mother carried the little dumpling forward. She had been sleeping, but after she was picked up, the little one suddenly opened her eyes. Lin's mother thought the little princess was going to cry, after all, the little princess was so cute that no one could comfort her when she cried. But she didn't expect that the little princess would stare at the withered old man and giggle.

Everyone present was surprised that he wasn't scared to tears.

Grandpa Gu's furrowed brows suddenly relaxed, and he gently touched her face with his finger, speaking in a tone that was meant to please a child: "Ah, you smiled the first time you saw your great-grandfather..."

Over the years, the old man has always been dignified and serious. Even when Gu Xijue was born, he rarely smiled. However, he became gentle in front of his great-grandson and said with a smile, "It is the first time that your great-grandfather has met you. He should give you a gift."

As he spoke, Grandpa Gu shakily pulled a red envelope from under his pillow and placed it in the baby's swaddling clothes.

At this moment, the little dumpling made a few sweet, childish cries, and Lin's mother immediately showered her with auspicious words: "This is the little lady thanking her great-grandfather..."

Grandpa Gu laughed, a genuine laugh from the bottom of his heart. After playing with the child for a few more minutes, he asked Lin Ma to take the child away.

Seeing that the old man's attitude towards the girl had softened, Madam Gu went to Lin Ma's side and teased her a couple of times, praising her, "She looks about seven or eight parts like Xi Jue when she was little."

This was her first time seeing him, and he did indeed resemble Gu Xijue by seven or eight points. However, she didn't like his eyes; they looked a lot like Song Jin'an's.

Madam Gu didn't even glance at Song Jin'an, continuing to play with the little girl. At this moment, Gu Donglin, who was standing to the side, also came over to take a look, but he wasn't very interested. He really didn't like a girl, but because the old man was there, he could only pretend to stand aside and play the role of a good grandfather.

"It's very similar to the Western Conference Finals."

The couple clearly disliked it, but they still went along with it, putting on a show. It was at this moment that Old Master Gu finally spoke to Song Jin'an: "Is your injury fully healed?"

He only learned a few days ago that Song Jin'an had been in a car accident and almost died, and that the child's life was hanging by a thread. Fortunately, both mother and daughter are safe.

Song Jin'an nodded, and instead of gesturing, took out her phone, typed and played: "Thank you for your concern, Grandpa. I'm all better now."

Grandpa Gu coughed a couple of times and frowned: "I heard from Xijue that the mastermind behind the murder has not been found and the police have closed the case."

He was full of affection for the little dumpling, but when he looked at Song Jin'an, he became serious again: "Have you offended anyone? Have you investigated them one by one? The child is still young and can't live without you as his mother."

The implication was clear: she needed to take good care of herself and avoid any mishaps that would cause her child to become an orphan at a young age.

Song Jin'an quickly typed on her phone: "The murderer hasn't been found yet. I'll be careful. Thank you for your concern, Grandpa."

The police called her and said that the account that transferred money to Mr. Lin was a virtual account because the account holder had been dead for decades. This kind of thing is very likely to happen abroad. There were no further clues after that point, so the case had to be closed for the time being.

When Grandpa Gu heard her say that, he didn't continue the topic. Instead, he shifted the focus back to the child: "I'll decide on the child's name."

The reason why the child's name has not been decided in the past few months is because Grandpa Gu is the one who is deciding. However, he had been thinking about a boy's name instead of a girl's. As the granddaughter of the Gu family, even though she is not a boy, her name must be good, because it is the face of the Gu family.

But seeing his great-granddaughter today, and feeling a sense of reality, Grandpa Gu coughed a few times, and the caregiver quickly stepped forward to pat his back gently.

After he finished coughing, his voice lingered.

"Knowledgeable and courteous, with the kindness of a sweet pear tree, let's call him Gu Zhitang. I'll choose his formal name, and you can choose his nickname."

After the old man finished speaking, he turned his gaze to Song Jin'an: "In another year or two, once you've recovered your health, you can have another child to complete the family line and continue the Gu family's bloodline."

Song Jin'an felt a little lonely. She knew that everyone in the Gu family preferred their grandson, but so what? She would give all her love to her daughter.

After saying just that, Old Master Gu waved wearily, indicating he wanted to rest, and dismissed everyone.

As the group reached the door, Gu Donglin and his wife left first, without even glancing at Song Jin'an. Lin Ma, who was holding Gu Zhitang, walked to Song Jin'an's side. Seeing her so dejected, she comforted her, "Madam, you and your husband are still young. Let's start with the first blossom and then bear the fruit. You'll definitely have a son and a daughter."

Although Lin's mother did not have a preference for sons over daughters, this was, after all, a wealthy family, and if she didn't give birth to a son, she might be kicked out. So she assumed that Song Jin'an was also worried about this.

Song Jin'an shook her head, looked at Lin Ma, and began to gesture.

—Mom, whether she's a boy or a girl, I will love her well and protect her as she grows up healthy.
