The Queen of Scrolls never admits defeat

Chapter 420 Skeleton Warrior

After the flying carpet set off again, Moran used his divination skills to determine the location with the most fresh humanoid corpse materials. The direction was similar to Ms. Genia's recommendation, both pointing to the northern part of the Black Forest.

However, the location is more accurate than the area defined by Ms. Ginia.

“It should be in this area.” Moran circled a place on the map in Lilith’s Flying Carpet route planning function.

That was the northernmost black forest, beyond which lay Mino Town of the Kingdom of Watson.

“Then let’s head this way!” Lilith said. “Let’s collect the corpse materials first, and then explore the undead creatures in the Black Forest on the way back.”

“Okay! Fried Rice’s right arm has been used too frequently and is a bit worn out. We need to replace it with a new one soon,” Vasida said.

Lilith and Moran both wanted to use humanoid corpses as materials to create highly flexible undead servants and slowly cultivate them, while Vasida only wanted to raise the fried rice well.

A typical necromancer only has exceptional talent in necromancy; her talent in other magic types is mediocre. When her magic power and magic level are not high, and her own accumulation is limited, she can only raise more low-level undead servants to protect herself and win by sheer numbers.

Although they all possessed outstanding necromancy talent, they did not rely on necromancy as their primary means of survival.

I keep these undead servants just out of interest, and it also allows me to practice necromancy.

Those who keep dead servants tend to prefer fewer but better ones.

Moran, Lilith, and Vasita all only intend to keep one humanoid death servant.

As they drew closer to their destination, Sylph's attention remained focused on the plants in the Black Forest. Vasita asked:

"Sylph, do you really not want to raise even one Death Servant? Death Servants are actually quite similar to Familiars, and Death Servants are even easier to raise than Familiars."

“No.” Sylph said decisively, “Rather than raising a dead servant, mending its cracked skin, replacing its worn bones, and applying preservatives, I would much rather raise a few plants, or a few adorable little creatures like Bi’er!”

Bi'er, who was sitting on her shoulder and playing with her hair, raised her chin upon hearing this: "Fairies are definitely the cutest creatures!"

Moran, Vasita, and Sylph: "..."

Who wouldn't want to raise a fairy?

Fairies like Bi'er, who are willing to leave their clan and are full of curiosity about the outside world, are rare.

Sylph's eyes lit up when she saw some brownish, thread-like plants clinging to the trunk of the nearby Black Death Tree: "Lilith! Wait a minute, there looks like a clump of withered thread moss over there!"

Lilith immediately stopped the flying carpet.

This happened more than once along the way.

Sylph always couldn't take her eyes off fresh plants.

Sometimes, Moran would be with her.

Since the Book of Cards already includes whole plants of the Drynaria, Moran didn't touch them.

Sylph not only collected many other necromancy and dark magic plant seeds, but also observed their growing environment and growth status.

However, the only ones that actually started to be planted were the revitalized black dead trees.

The seed of the black dead tree that was soaked at the beginning has sprouted a dry, black woody bud and has been planted in a small planting pot.

While Sylph squatted beside the Black Death Tree, collecting seeds of the withered moss, Moran and the others waited on the flying carpet, also keeping watch.

When a strange "thump-thump" sound came from the thick gray fog, Moran, Lilith, and Vasita immediately noticed it.

"Sylph! Come back!"

After Moran finished speaking, he immediately cast a teleportation spell at Sylph's feet. Sylph subconsciously did as Moran said, and before she even realized what was happening, she was teleported back onto the flying carpet.

Moran, Lilith, and Vasita stared intently at the gray fog to the west.

Sylph finally noticed the voice, which was sometimes soft and sometimes loud: "It sounds like it's coming this way?"

Moran nodded: "Let's see what it is first!"

The gray mist formed by the accumulated power of death over the years remained, and the sound seemed very close, but nothing could be seen, making people anxious as they waited.

Lilith couldn't resist controlling the flying carpet to fly in that direction.

A humanoid black figure slowly emerged from the thick fog.

Moran and the other three instinctively held their breath.

It was a skeleton, its entire body rotten to the point that only a few pieces of rotten flesh remained.

Within the empty eye sockets, the eerie green flames of the soul flickered.

Upon seeing the eerie green soul flame that represented low-level undead creatures, they all relaxed without prior agreement.

What followed was intense curiosity.

This was the first time they had encountered undead creatures since entering the Black Forest.

Four witches crouched beside the flying carpet, peering down at the skeleton below, chirping softly.

“He can still move even without flesh and skin, and he’s leaning on a rotten wooden stick in his right hand. He also has soul fire. He’s a low-level skeleton warrior!” Vasita said.

“Its right shinbone seems to be a bit off; it walks with a limp, and the bone is really old. I hope it doesn’t fall and break all its bones!” Lilith said.

"Both legs are made of bones from an adult human male, but the right calf is shorter. The connection method is also different from that of the bones in other parts of the body. It was forcibly connected by the power of death, and it looks somewhat like the skeleton's own handiwork."

A skeleton warrior who can easily set his own bones is an elite among skeleton warriors.

"And even though it walks unsteadily, as if it's about to fall, its entire body, except for the right shinbone, only shows signs of aging and has no other external injuries. This means it hasn't actually fallen much and walks quite steadily," Moran commented.

"Is that a green strip of cloth wrapped around its left arm? Is it also a witch's dead servant?" Sylph asked.

“It should be. I’ll try using the witch language to see if I can control it!” Vasita said, sticking her head out of the one-way sound-cutting magic circle and shouting to the skeleton warriors below in the witch language, “Stop!”

The skeleton warrior's soul fire trembled, shook, and abruptly stopped.

Vasita pulled her head back: "That's right! It's the witch's dead servant! Alas! It's a pity it already has a master, otherwise this ghostly green soul fire would be among the best quality low-level undead creatures, and it would be much smarter."

After not hearing any further instructions for a while, the skeleton warrior continued walking, without stopping when he passed the black dead tree where Sylph had been.

The footsteps of the skeleton warrior gradually faded into the distance.

"It's leaving!" Moran exclaimed. "Let's follow it and see!"

Lilith urged her flying carpet to follow.

Sylph used the Clear Pass spell to command the black dead branches blocking her path to move aside. The branches rustled as they shifted, but the skeleton warriors below only paused for a moment before looking up at the top of the tree.

Finding no trace of them, they continued onward, seemingly mistaking the active Black Death Tree for a resurrected one. (End of Chapter)
