Game of Thrones: Viserys the Three-Headed Dragon.
Chapter 88: First Night at Dragonstone
Chapter 88: First Night at Dragonstone
At night, when Viserys went to the merchant ship to pick up Daenerys and bring her into the castle, he suddenly saw a cluster of red blush appear on the deck of the Cedarion.
He soon saw that the person standing in the bright red halo was a priestess in a red robe, her flaming red sacrificial robe flickering in the subtle light of the night.
She was the Red God priestess who had been imprisoned on a ship from Astapor and had drifted half the world with Viserys and his party. Viserys remembered her name, Flemme.
It seemed that after the Unsullied who was responsible for guarding her was sent to the battlefield, she somehow managed to get out of the cabin where she was imprisoned.
She seemed to be waiting for Viserys to appear, and only when Viserys approached the merchant ship did she use some kind of magic to create a strange red halo on the deck.
"This war," Fremi said in a calm and pleasant voice on the deck, reciting as if in prayer, "You are already involved in it. You need me, you all need me. Although I don't know when, where, or even why, the Holy Fire has guided me here to show you the truth."
Viserys ignored her mumbling and flew straight into the room, shouting to the Unsullied team who were always guarding the door: "Go and capture the priest."
Fremi continued, "Dragon, Dragon Knight, I know your true nature."
The priest's words frightened Daenerys, and she looked at Viserys nervously.
Viserys ordered coldly, "Bring her in."
Two Unsullied brought the priestess into the room.
Viserys said, "Let her go. Everyone guard the passage."
The priest of the Red God remained calm as ever, and stared at Viserys in the dim room.
Viserys said quietly, "I thought you all feared the darkness of night, and so kept the fires burning and prayed for the dawn. It seems that is not entirely true."
The priest of the Red God did not respond to Viserys's words. He spoke only to himself: "In this war, everyone is involved. A war between two true gods. Not seven, not one, not a hundred, not a thousand, but only two! This war is not about who will be king of a country or a land. This war has been going on since the beginning of the world, and before the judgment comes, everyone must choose a side. On one side is R'hllor, the Lord of Light, the Heart of Flame, the God of Shadows and Fire. On the other side is the ancient God who cannot be spoken of by mortals, the God of Darkness, the Soul of Ice, the God of Night and Terror."
Fremi's voice seemed to pulse rhythmically. "See the world as it is, the truth surrounds you, everything is clear. The night is dark and dangerous, the day is bright and prosperous. One is black, the other is white. One is ice, the other is fire. Hate and love, bitter and sweet, female and male, pain and joy, winter and summer, evil and justice. Our choice is life and death, our choice is light and darkness."
"Are you finished?"
The Red God's priest's eyes sparkled as he spoke devoutly, "You do not believe me. You still doubt R'hllor's will. But you are already in it. Please consider my words carefully."
"What does your fire tell you about my true nature?" Viserys asked.
"A dragon has three heads." The priestess of the Red God smiled, "Whether you were one before or not, you are one now." She twirled her blood-red skirt, bowed slightly, and then remained silent.
Viserys looked at the priestess and laughed indifferently: "If this is how you interpret the sacred fire to preach to me, then you need to practice your words more." He did not give the priestess time to answer, and shouted to the outside of the door, "Guards!"
The Unsullied guard in the passage approached and knocked on the door to enter the room. Viserys ordered, "Go and tell Captain Grolet that the room is returned to him."
The voice came from the dragon, but no one doubted it and immediately obeyed. After guarding the door for so long, if the Unsullied guard didn't guess the truth, then his brain was questionable.
"The rest of you, pack up your things in the rooms and put them on the deck. You don't have to be on duty tonight, so go back to your cabins and rest. Move your things to the castle tomorrow morning." Viserys looked at Daenerys and said, "Dany, let the baby dragon out and let's go home."
No one paid any attention to the priests of the Red God.
When Daenerys released the young dragon and brought it onto Viserys' back, Viserys said, "You are wrong, Freme. I will not lock you up. I will give you freedom."
With that, Viserys spread his wings and flew out the window, heading straight for the castle.
Soon Viserys returned to the upper table room of the Stone Drum Tower.
Daenerys was shocked by the words that came out of the priestess's mouth, which seemed to reveal some truth of the world. She couldn't help but ask Viserys: "What was she talking about just now?"
Viserys said bitterly, "She was saying that we were in the middle of a war between her god and another. She thinks we are important."
"What about us?" Daenerys didn't know what to say for a moment.
Viserys couldn't help but look at the young dragon that flew back with him, and said, "Don't take it too seriously. If someone tells us that the sky is going to fall, but doesn't tell us when or how it will fall, and is just throwing out a riddle, should we worry about whether the sky will fall every day and not do our own things?"
This is actually what Viserys expected to happen. In a world with true gods, it is impossible to hide from the gods forever. It is wishful thinking to eat the sugar coating and throw away the shells.
And not everything can be eaten with sugar coating.
The key is to know that the gods have placed a bet on you. How can you mediate and be prepared to be a chess piece?
Even the most humble chess piece has his own desires, not to mention that he and Daenerys do not seem humble at the moment.
Daenerys nodded in confusion.
This is the first floor of the dark cell.
The cell beneath Dragonstone was dark, with no sunlight. The back of the cell was still in darkness, though there were torches in the ledges along the corridor walls, shining a faint, flickering orange light through the ancient iron bars. It was also damp, which was to be expected in a place like Dragonstone, with the sea so close at hand. There were rats in it, as in any dark cell, and even more.
But the new group of people who came in were lucky, and all the rats ran away today.
The smooth rocky passages beneath Dragonstone are usually warm, and are said to get hotter the deeper you go.
Count Gunther was a prisoner here last time, but this time his identity is very different.
"Can His Majesty defeat the dragon when he returns?" Someone in the prison was talking. "The dragon isn't that big, is it? The three heads look scary, but only the middle head can spit fire. To be honest, that dragon looks really weird."
"That's what the Targaryen sigil looks like, but no one told me it was real."
"Valerian's seahorse is real, and so is Celtigar's crab. This shows that the family crests from Valyria all have something in common, and that is that they are genuine. You just didn't realize that, fool."
"Hahaha." They laughed, as if the laughter could cover up the shock that had lasted from morning till now.
Some people speculated: "The dragon should not be an adult yet. His Majesty the King has two hundred warships and Lady Melisandre, so he should be able to defeat it."
Someone shouted, “Then why should we surrender?”
"It changes. Sometimes it's big, sometimes it's small. Damn, who knows what kind of magic it has. Do you know?"
One said, "Ser Axell, you saw the future in the flames, and saw Lord Stannis sitting on the Iron Throne, didn't you?"
"One country, one God, one king! Queen Selyse said no! But you! You swore allegiance to King Stannis--" Earl Gunther was very familiar with this voice. It was Ser Axell, who often threatened others and was rude and irritable.
"—and his heir, Princess Shireen."
Someone taunted him, "If you had drawn your sword on the dragon on the stone arch bridge, Sir Axell, I would have been the first to follow you. But where were you then? It's a pity I didn't see you swinging your sword at the dragon, otherwise we would be lighting bonfires beside the dragon's corpse and chanting prayers to the Lord of Light. The minstrels would write songs for you: The Song of Axell the Dragon Slayer." He hummed a tuneless tune.
"you--"
Someone said in a cold and desperate tone: "If you were on the mountain road at that time, you would not have thought so, Uncle Axell. King Targaryen appeared suddenly on a dragon. Its roar was terrifying. Before anyone could react, it flew over us. Flames rained down from the sky like rain, and more than 20 people in the front row were burned to death by it. The commander you sent, Ser Foss, was killed by the first dragon flame. I should be ashamed of my thoughts, but I did think so. In front of me was old Ser Gulliver, who theoretically took over the command of the team. I really hoped that he would listen to King Targaryen's call and lead us to surrender. Gods above! Wasn't the Florent family a member of the royalist party more than ten years ago? Wasn't old Ser Gulliver also under the city when we besieged Storm's End? But he shouted "Disperse", and I was confused at the time, so I followed him and shouted "Disperse"."
Ser Axell shouted, "You know what you are talking about, kissing the king's hand in the great hall and swearing fealty to King Stannis! Traitor! I knew Alister would change gods like a pair of boots, with no honor—"
Floren, who was born in a branch of Floren, had previously followed Lord Alister and Renly, and later defected to Stannis. He interrupted Axel's scolding and said, "Traitor? Shall I remind you that the battle on the mountain road will end later than that in the castle! When you surrendered, I was still leading my men to fight the Targaryen army. My two squires gave their lives for King Stannis, and I was also wounded for him. Do you want me to show you my wounds? I am stating the facts. King Targaryen has dragons, three-headed dragons. Do you know what that means? He has dragons! A fleet of a thousand ships cannot capture Dragonstone, which has dragons. As long as King Targaryen is here..."
He did not continue.
"."
The prison fell into a brief silence as the quarrel between the two Florens ended.
"Ah, I tell you, you don't know how lucky Mitho is." Someone sighed and broke the silence, "I saw it with my own eyes. Mitho was washed down the cliff from the city wall tower by the flames spewed by the dragon, and he just happened to hang on the tree trunk on the edge of the cliff and didn't fall. Ah, that kid has always been lucky, I have always envied him. For the sake of his armor, King Targaryen's people will definitely try their best to get his body up. Maybe the dragon flew over to get it personally. Oh, he is so lucky!"
"."
"Cough." Count Gunther coughed lightly.
"Look, who's here?" Everyone in the cell looked at him.
Someone asked him, "Lord Gunther, did you kiss the Targaryen king's hand? How did his hand taste? Was it washed? Did it taste like blood or fire?"
A few dry laughs were heard in the cell.
Count Gunther said, "Sir Arnell, the king asked me to find the quartermaster, Sir Arnell."
Someone joked, "Which king?" But no one in the prison responded.
Honest Earl Gunther still gave an answer: "King Viserys Targaryen."
Someone in a cell responded: "The Targaryen king is looking for me?"
"My king wants you to identify the bodies, Sir Arniel. Tomorrow, His Majesty will hold a funeral for the dead on both sides in the cemetery. The king wants their names to be engraved on their tombstones so that his relatives and friends can find him in the cemetery in the future."
