Chapter 7 The Prince of Pentos
"What should I call you, butler?"

It was not until noon the next day that Viserys, who had been waiting for Illyrio for a long time and was so hungry that he could not stand it anymore, finally pretended to have just woken up and walked out of the bedroom door. By chance, he met the butler who was directing the maids to clean the corridor. It was the butler who took the dragon bone collection for Illyrio at the welcoming banquet yesterday.

The butler bowed slightly and said, "Just call me butler, distinguished guest."

"You have a name, don't you?" Viserys asked.

"You can just call me butler, distinguished guest." His voice was high-pitched and sweet, and he answered appropriately, "The master has instructed that if the guest has any problem, he can come to me."

"Well," Viserys said with an ambiguous smile, "you have an interesting name."

The butler nodded slightly, looked at Viserys with a smile, and said nothing, as if waiting for Viserys to give instructions.

Viserys stopped worrying about his name and asked, "Where is your master?"

"Dear guest," the butler replied as if he had already prepared a plan, "the master went out this morning for something and I don't know when he will be back. Before he left, he told you that if you want to see him, you may have to wait for a while."

"Oh, I see." Viserys said expressionlessly, changing the subject. "Butler, did your master give any instructions for lunch?"

Viserys would be crazy to look for Illyrio. He starts off with a heavy loss of blood, and the opponent gives him time. Shouldn't he seize the time to develop well?
Well, to be exact, it is developing under the eyes of others.
The butler replied seriously: "Lunch is my duty. My distinguished guest, do you want it to be delivered to the restaurant or to your room?"

"Well, Magister Illyrio is very considerate," Viserys thought for a moment before answering, "A dining room."

The butler nodded: "Please wait in the restaurant. Do you need a guide?"

Viserys waved his hand. "I remember the way."

The butler nodded slightly and left.

There was only one maid left there, quietly doing the cleaning work.

It seems that Illyrio, at least on the surface, is very lenient with the Targaryen siblings and allows them to walk around the courtyard freely.

It was with this realization that Viserys decided to go to the dining room for lunch. After lunch, he planned to walk around the courtyard to see where the boundaries of his activities were.

As soon as the butler left, the door opened behind him and the thin Daenerys walked out of the room: "Brother."

After saying hello, she shut up, her eyes flashed across the maid who was doing cleaning work, and she immediately lowered her head and tiptoed to Viserys like a maid.

Viserys nodded and said to her, "You must be hungry. Let's go and have lunch."

As he said that, he walked towards the restaurant.

It seemed that Daenerys had woken up a long time ago, but she didn't hear Viserys calling her, so she didn't dare go out and went hungry for a long time.

Lunch was fish, roast pork and honey-butter bread, washed down with wine, very Pantos style.

In the huge restaurant, only Viserys and Daenerys were having dinner at the moment, with the butler serving them quietly beside them.

Viserys asked casually, "Steward, does Illyrio's family not live here?"

"." The butler paused and replied, "This is just one of the master's many courtyards, distinguished guest."

Viserys couldn't help but look at him again: "Oh."

So I didn't ask any more questions.

Dany listened to Viserys and the steward's questions and answers, but her mind was in turmoil as they answered irrelevant questions.

Since being struck by lightning, Viserys's behavior has become unpredictable and his words have become confusing. Dany still hasn't figured out what he meant last night: "If you have a secret to protect, don't act like you have a secret to protect."

Of course she could understand the surface meaning, but
She thought that when Viserys told her, he was also telling others outside.
She didn't sleep well that night.

And then just now, she thought Viserys was just asking casually, but the steward paused before answering.

The sensitive Dany caught this.

It was not until lunch was finished and Viserys wiped his mouth that he broke the silence in the restaurant again: "Butler, I would like to take a walk in the yard, is that okay?"

The butler replied: "Dear guest, please do as you please. There is no need to ask me."

Viserys nodded. "Yes."

The butler asked, "Do you need an escort?" as if asking for the opinion of the guest being entertained.

"All right." Viserys did not refuse.

Afterwards, Viserys and Daenerys walked along the promenade of the courtyard accompanied by their steward.

The courtyard is not small, surrounded by three tall brick walls and a low cliff facing the narrow sea. There are three gates in the courtyard. The main gate is the main way in and out of the house. The gate is closed. There is a sentry box next to the door with two guards sitting. One door leads to the garden. The third door is the back door, with a kennel and dogs.

Viserys stopped at the main entrance and stared for a while. The guards at the door just glanced at him and didn't look at him again. They just went about their own business.

Their hands never left their swords, their eyes never looked away. Just from these, we could tell that they were well-trained and were not mercenaries.

Viserys did not watch for long, so he wondered if there were any other guards outside the main gate.

Viserys took a rough measurement and found that the entire courtyard was about the size of four or five basketball courts. It was tightly enclosed, and one could not see what was happening outside from inside the courtyard, nor could one see what was happening inside the courtyard from outside.

From the perspective of hiding important figures alone, it is indeed possible to isolate the inside and the outside.

After walking around, no one spoke. Viserys couldn't stand it: "You seem to be very quiet, butler." He could feel that this butler and the guard at the door were probably from the Unsullied family, so they should be quiet. But Illyrio asked him to serve, or to monitor, and he had answered the previous questions very well.

Then.

[Aren't you going to spy on something? ]

The butler replied apologetically: "Forgive me for my inconvenience, distinguished guest."

Then he shut up again.

Viserys then took the initiative to choose the topic: "I heard that Pentos also has a king?"

The butler answered whenever asked, "Yes, distinguished guest, people call him the Prince of Pentos."

Viserys asked casually, "Have you seen him?"

"Yes," answered the butler. "I have seen from a distance at festivals and feasts a prince, riding in a litter of ivory and gold, touring Pentos."

"Is he the most powerful man in Pentos?" Viserys asked.

"." The butler paused, "I am just a small butler. I don't know the affairs of the adults, distinguished guest."

Viserys smiled back at his steward's reply and continued, "You are not from Pentos?"

The butler replied: "Pentos is a commercial port city. Many people who live in Pentos are not born in Pentos. You are my distinguished guest."

Viserys asked casually, "Your master is not from Pentos, either?"

"." The butler answered quickly this time, "I am just a small butler. I don't know the master's affairs, distinguished guest."

"I have heard that when the men of Pentos think the gods are angry with them, because they have lost a battle or their crops have failed, they slit the prince's throat and sacrifice him to the gods. Is that true?"

"."

"Ah!" This time, without waiting for the steward to answer, Dany, who had been following behind Viserys, slipped and let out a cry.

Viserys stopped and turned back. "What is the matter with you, Daenerys?"

"I..." Daenerys's face was full of panic, but she couldn't explain it clearly. She just lowered her head and apologized, "I'm sorry."

The housekeeper also stopped, squatted sideways, looked at it for a while, and said, "Your foot is sprained," and then he was going to treat it, "I need to move your foot and do some simple treatment, distinguished lady."

Daenerys didn't dare to answer and looked up at Viserys.

Viserys stepped forward to support Daenerys, and said in an undeniable tone: "I'll help her back. Is there any medicine for falls here? Go get it."

The butler glanced at Viserys, hesitated for a moment, and finally did not refuse: "Please wait."

"I'm sorry." Dany apologized timidly.

Viserys said sternly, "You have done nothing wrong. You don't have to say you are sorry."

To be honest, Viserys didn't want to put on such an attitude in front of a skinny and pitiful girl, but that was just what he was like.

Even if Viserys wants to change his attitude now, he can't be too hasty.

And for the time being, he needs Daenerys to continue to maintain this cowardly state. She won't talk much or do stupid things. She will just have wild thoughts, and anyone can see that she is worried.

Perhaps because Viserys' attitude was much softer than before, Dany subconsciously asked the question she wanted to know most in a low voice: "How long will we live here?"

Viserys spoke truthfully. "It will be a long time."

Dany's heart sank. She muttered, "But you don't trust him."

"Don't talk nonsense, Dany. The princes of Pentos are in a better situation than us." Viserys pinched her arm and said coldly, "I don't ask you to do anything, just keep your mouth shut."

Then Dany stopped talking.

This little girl has been tortured enough by her original body and is used to being manipulated.

Although Viserys felt reluctant, he still maintained a tough attitude.

Viserys helped Dany back to her room without any gentleness, and his hands squeezed Dany's arms so hard that they hurt.

Not long after I returned to the room and sat down at the bedside, the housekeeper brought medicine and a basin of water.

"Please take off your shoes, my lady."

Just as the steward was about to tend to Dany's ankle, Viserys interrupted him: "No, steward, not you. Go get a maid."

Hearing this, the butler looked at Viserys blankly. Seeing the other party's serious expression, he bowed his head and apologized: "I'm sorry, please forgive my rudeness, distinguished guest."

Dany was sitting at the head of the bed. After listening to the conversation, she could not help but quickly glance at Viserys. When she found that he was about to turn his head to look, she hurriedly lowered her eyes and waited in silence.

Viserys had a serious expression and said nothing, just fumbling at the dragon bone pendant on his wrist.
