Chapter 26 Beauty and the Bear
Viserys frowned as he looked at the extra part of the dragon bone that Illyrio had sent him.

"This is?"

He had just gotten up and had not had time to go to Daenerys to see how she was doing when he was invited to Illyrio's study.

"It is a gift, sire. I am afraid I offended you yesterday, and this is my apology." Illyrio ignored Viserys's frown and explained attentively, "And I was so inconsiderate before that you did not have a maid to serve you. It was very neglectful." He leaned in close and whispered in Viserys's greasy ear, "This is a Lysian girl, who is proficient in the seven arts of spring cry. I bought her for you, and I promise you will be satisfied."

Seeing Illyrio's attentiveness, Viserys didn't know how to react for a moment. He had thought that sooner or later the fat governor would place someone around him, but he didn't expect it to be arranged like this, to blatantly give him a bed slave.

This kind of behavior may be hard to imagine in modern people's eyes, but in today's world of ice and fire, it is normal for powerful people to send a bed slave to slaves, not to mention slave cities such as Yunkai, Meereen, and Astapor, even in relatively mild free trade cities, and even in relatively conservative Westeros. For these high-ranking officials in Essos, this is just a gift to show their generosity.

"You are thoughtful, Illyrio." After thinking for a moment, Viserys finally came up with an idea. "I will accept the dragon bones, but not the girl. You did nothing wrong yesterday. I saw everything you did and knew it was out of kindness. If you really feel guilty, why not find me more dragon bones." He pointed to the box containing the dragon bones and whispered to the fat governor, "It would be even better if there were dragon eggs."

But Illyrio would not let him go. "You don't like it?" He flattered, "How about I give you a beautiful boy instead?"

It looks like Illyrio has to be sent away.

Viserys said solemnly, "I have been told, Illyrio, that if a ruler is not careful and rigorous, his subordinates will suffer. If a subordinate is not careful and rigorous, his work will be difficult. If important things are not careful and rigorous, they will not succeed. What we are doing, don't you know?"

"Your Majesty, I have never leaked any information to anyone." Illyrio's eyes widened. "This girl was born in Lys and trained in Yunkai. She is just a bed slave who can only please men. Are you suspicious?"

Viserys narrowed his eyes and looked over. Illyrio was acting like a man who had been wrongly accused and was eager to prove himself. Feeling the other party's shamelessness, Viserys became stubborn and said, "Someone told me that women are the sword of kings. My brother Rhaegar lost his dynasty because of them, and now King Robert will also lose his throne because of them. Do you think this makes sense, Lord Governor?"

"Your Majesty, I," Illyrio said, lowering his head and smiling bitterly, "I only want to give you a maid."

"." At this point, Viserys regretted what he had just said. Illyrio had to send this maid away, and his repeated refusals put himself in a difficult position and brought him into unnecessary conflict with Illyrio.

Although he was on guard against Illyrio in his heart, he must not be too straightforward and argue with all the other party's temptations. Their relationship should be closer on the surface. Since Illyrio was trying to please him, he should be gentle and respond more appropriately.

As long as the dragon bones are delivered, everything can be tolerated for the time being.

It's just that there's one more spy around him that he needs to be on guard against.

"That is not what I meant, Lord Governor." Viserys softened his tone. "I was just talking nonsense in a fit of rage. You don't know that I have often had dreams of hating my brother Rhaegar for losing his kingdom for a woman. I know you sent me a maid out of kindness, and I do need someone to serve me, but you don't need a bed slave."

"Your Majesty, what should we do with this girl?" Illyrio retreated to advance, he looked over there and asked in a low voice. "She may have heard some of what we said. If Your Majesty is worried."

Viserys finally realized the ruthless side of the fat governor. He didn't know whether he really wanted to get rid of the girl who was given to Viserys as a gift five minutes ago.

Viserys asked in surprise, "The Lord Magister is going to kill her?" He narrowed his eyes and stared at the fat Magister, as if he cared more about Illyrio's answer than the girl's life.

"Kill her? Hiss~" The fat governor took a breath, as if frightened by Viserys's question, "I want to sell her as far away as possible, Your Majesty, what do you mean?"

Viserys said as if jokingly. "You gave her to me, so I give her to you. Illyrio, you are not old enough to use her, are you? Or do you need to trade her for a handsome boy? If so, you will have to find a way. Haha."

"Haha," Illyrio laughed, "Your Majesty, you are joking. I am not a king like you who cares about the world and is not afraid of women. Haha." Then the fat governor called the butler, "Take her down and arrange a room for her."

Viserys ordered bluntly: "Send these to my rooms." The subject was thus brought to an end.

The butler had just left and Viserys was thinking of an excuse to leave Illyrio's study when there was a knock on the door.

Illyrio bowed his head in apology to Viserys and called, "Come in. What do you want?"

"My lord," said the eunuch who was always with Illyrio, "envoys from the Lord of Tyrosh have found their way here. They are outside the courtyard, and they wish to see you. Here is a card."

The eunuch guard respectfully handed the visiting card with gold edges to Illyrio.

"What an unexpected guest," Illyrio frowned as he took the card. "Why is he here?"

He did not open the card, but looked at Viserys in embarrassment. "Your Majesty, this..."

The Fat Governor looked as if he had not expected this.

Viserys wondered what this was all about. "What's wrong?"

"Your Majesty, I have to explain. I have not invited anyone to this courtyard since it was used to secretly house you and Her Highness Daenerys." The fat governor looked very embarrassed. He explained everything in detail. "I don't know how this envoy from the Lord of Tyroshi knew that I was here. This time he came without asking for permission. I think he wanted me to help him contact the Dothraki. Your Majesty may not know that there have been some conflicts between Tyroshi, Lys and Myr recently because of trade disputes."

"Oh." Viserys pretended to be considerate, but he still nodded secretly, "Since I came here 'secretly' and hid here, I expected such things to happen. After all, this is your courtyard, and you are the master, Lord Governor. Now that it concerns the Lord Governor's big business, it is not a big deal for my sister and I to step aside."

"Your Majesty," Illyrio said with a wry smile, still speaking humbly, "I beg you to forgive me for being only one of the merchant governors of Pentos, and the envoy is the brother of the Lord of Tyrosh."

[If you are just one of the many merchant governors in Pentos, why did he come to you? ]

Viserys was secretly on guard in his heart, but he still maintained a nonchalant look on his face. "Then I will return to my room first, Lord Governor. I wanted to have lunch with you, but it seems that I cannot do so."

The Fat Governor responded respectfully: "Thank you for your understanding, Your Majesty."

The Fat Lord Governor and Viserys left the study together. Viserys walked along the corridor towards the guest rooms, while the Fat Lord Governor walked towards the door.

Viserys walked slowly, and did not enter the building where the guest rooms were until he could see what the fat governor looked like when he greeted the guests coming in from the door.

The servants carrying gift boxes came in first. The open gift boxes contained the finest velvet and brocade produced in the Free Trade Cities, the finest ceramics inlaid with jewels, enamel and glass. They were led into the reception room by Illyrio's guards. Then came the owner, Illyrio, who walked into the courtyard with a bald, wealthy middle-aged man with a green beard and wearing gorgeous silk clothes. The last to enter were the two guards. In between them, half a step faster than the guards and half a step slower than the owner of the courtyard and the wealthy middle-aged man, was a strong man who looked out of place with the others.

The sturdy man was a little bald, with dark skin, tall stature and thick hair. He did not wear the standard leather armor of the eunuch guards, but instead wore chain mail and leather clothes. His dark green coat was embroidered with a black bear standing on two legs.

Viserys guessed who he was.

Jorah Mormont.
