Chapter 208 Ch.207 Walking Upright
"I promise that there will be no rumors that make you uncomfortable, Mr. Anne. You will soon be a partner of the Heyman family. Although I am honored by my father's surname, I admire people as perseverant and intelligent as you."
Louis Heyman placed one hand on his chest and bowed slightly to the woman in front of him.
He tied his burgundy curly hair neatly today, and the treble clef pendant on his left ear swayed as his body bent.
He and Marvolo Hyman received Diamond Annie in a private salon, which also meant that the Hyman family was about to face this tall and strong woman.
At least that's how Anne understood it.
She didn't have a suit today, but wore a long lace skirt that looked out of place on her.
However, apart from the servants and Heyman and his son, no one in the tavern dared to look at her strangely.
This was a kind of 'advance payment', the Heimans told her what the future would look like in advance.
"Your future will be brighter than today."
Louis Hyman smiled and asked her to take a seat below his father, where she was served by servants.
"The hard work will finally pay off in a few days."
The Burns family has handmade silk carpets, magnificent murals, long-bearded lampshades with hand-rolled gold threads, tablecloths as soft as skin, every inch of exquisite silver tableware, historic oil paintings of celebrities, the most expensive jeweled silver and tin wine jugs, limited edition gold smoke cigars, and red wine from a winery that I can't name but always seem to have heard of.
And the fragrant floral scent in the air.
Anne greedily enjoyed everything in the private banquet room.
This belonged to the Heyman family, but soon she would be able to enjoy the same treatment with dignity.
At least, she could wear long dresses and walk around the same salons without being looked at strangely - the life she had always wanted was now within her reach.
"Mr. Heyman."
Anne bowed to the old man above her.
She wanted to do it the same way as before, but was stopped by Marvolo Heyman.
'You are about to become a partner of the Heiman family - the Heiman family never deprives the dignity of a partner.'
Have a look.
She found back with her own hands what she had lost.
"The blood bricks have been given to Mr. Louis Hyman." Anne bowed her head respectfully: "After this time, it will be difficult for us to use such a large number of babies. The adults, the church and the police are all keeping an eye on us. If something goes wrong..."
Old Heyman was nonchalant. Compared to those 'blood bricks', he seemed to care more about the dishes served by the servants.
From time to time, he nodded to the maid who served the dishes, commented on the soup, slid a silver spoon across the milky white soup, dipped some of the juice on the tip of his tongue to taste it.
After Anne finished speaking, she waited quietly, waiting for the old man to move his lips and tongue, put down the spoon, and gently touch the corners of his mouth with the silk cloth.
"You don't have to worry about the police and the church, Anne."
Marvolo Hyman said.
"After this incident, you will have long left the Elephant Gang... Oh, a new identity has been prepared for you."
"Thank you for your generosity."
"You deserve this." Old Heyman shrugged, turned to look at her, and said charitably, "You did a good job, but no one is strong enough. I hope you can handle the gang affairs as soon as possible, and get out of here as soon as the matter is over. The Heyman family never deals with low-class people, and will never get involved with criminals."
His eyes were deep: "Right?"
Anne bowed her head: "I understand, Master Heyman."
Marvolo Heyman was satisfied with her attitude and picked up the handle of the silver fork: "Come on, let's use some first."
"My dear Mr. Francis always likes to make this meat pudding with too much juice. I have said many times that too much juice can easily make the diners look undignified and displease some ladies and their husbands. On the other hand, too little juice affects the taste of the pudding."
"Am I too demanding?" Louis Heyman smiled and continued, "Your most basic requirements for quality are the reason why the Heyman family is extraordinary among many nobles."
Marvolo Heyman agreed.
"We are the standard and the flag. If we cannot even meet these most basic requirements, how can we demonstrate the nobility in our blood and leave a mark that will last for thousands of years to future generations? This is a responsibility, a responsibility that comes from our family, our surname, and our bloodline."
"Louis, I want you to remember this."
"You are noble because of your surname, and you should make your surname great because of you."
Louis Hyman bowed his head respectfully to his father, just as Anne did.
Cutting a meat pie with a serrated knife is much more elegant than tearing it with your teeth. All the ways of eating created by these people try to keep themselves away from cruelty and close to elegance. And Marvolo Heyman is the best among them.
Each of his cuts was just right, separating the meat without touching the porcelain plate underneath.
He ate silently, just like some life dying.
“…I heard that a girl ran away.”
He suddenly mentioned this matter and casually asked Anne: "...I hope it won't bring bad news, right?"
Anne subconsciously clenched her knife. "...She knows nothing about your plan, sir. My people will catch her soon. Next time, she won't be so lucky."
"Your people." Marvolo tasted the word and suddenly laughed: "Annie, maybe you can consider asking my Louis for a little favor."
The father and son did not even wait for Anne's reply.
Louis put down his knife and fork, "What's her name?"
The woman had a complicated expression: "...Rose. Her name is Rose."
"Rose." Louis Hyman nodded. "If you need, Mr. Anne."
After the salon ended, Anne left in the Heymann family's carriage.
Old Heyman didn't eat much, but he drank a lot of wine.
He twirled the ring on his finger, leaned back in his high-backed chair, and pointed at the tabletop.
"Pick it up."
The maids put all the dishes on the table into the tray, and according to the master's instructions, some of them would be thrown away.
The part Anne used.
"It's hard for me to imagine that I will one day sit at the same table with an inferior person for dinner." Facing his son, Marvolo Hyman could not hide his contempt: "She seems to have learned a lot, but she is still like an untrained animal - an ape, right?"
Louis Hyman laughed: "Forgive her, father, how can you expect this ridiculous person to really learn from us."
"I try not to ask for too much, Louis."
Marvolo Heyman sneered: "But some people always have delusions."
Diamond Annie...
An animal over six feet tall.
An animal he tamed.
"There can be no mistake about this, Louis," said Marvolo Heyman sternly. "Businessmen who are willing to sell out their parents for profit already have enough power. We cannot accept any more concessions-"
"Especially when animals whose toes haven't been washed clean are sitting in the same seats as us."
"That would be a great insult to us and to many historic families."
