You were made to farm, and now you're the emperor of an empire?
Chapter 425 The Farmer's Daughter
Chapter 425 The Farmer's Daughter
Day two.
Roman received new information.
He stared at the contents of the letter and said coldly, "This is insane!"
Count Felin and his knights began a massacre of the refugees surrounding the castle.
Who could have predicted that he could be so depraved?
By the time Jet and the others learned of this, it was already late at night. Lion Castle was ablaze, illuminating half the sky.
Dick was certain that the old lion was in a state of utter despair; he knew the ugly things nobles would do before they died.
They quickly dispatched troops to stop the massacre.
Tashina also left with the White Knight.
The two negotiated yesterday but broke off their talks.
When they met again, they were completely different people.
He had reached the end of his road, losing all aristocratic demeanor and leaving only his mad essence.
He wanted all the people of the Lion Territory to be buried with him.
Those serfs belonged to him during their lifetimes.
He wanted to take his wealth to hell, not leave it on earth, and certainly not leave it to his enemies.
He wanted to leave Roman and Tashina an empty Lion's Territory.
But the old lion couldn't do it. He fought to the death, his head cut off and displayed on the lion banner. The Golden Lion Knights also fell in pools of blood. Only the mercenaries, devoid of honor and morality, scattered like birds and beasts.
Roman sneered.
He was neither angry nor happy; his gaze was cold.
How much more surprises will these corrupt old forces bring him?
……
“I saw it with my own eyes! Blood! Blood everywhere! Rivers of blood! The master has come to kill us.” Tania heard Kent pleading for help again.
Her children all returned yesterday.
When his son Kent left, he was timid and cowardly. When he returned, he was delirious, had a fever, and shouted all night without stopping.
The daughter, Bella, had been eating wild grass and fresh mushrooms elsewhere. When she was starving, she dragged herself back in fear, only to find that the village had been completely transformed.
The invaders discovered the native and immediately captured her, feeding her a bowl of bland rice porridge and giving her half a piece of bread. It took the girl named Grole a long time to find out where she lived, and they eventually brought her back here.
Tania's heart nearly jumped out of her chest when she saw Bena.
But the two soldiers accompanying her neither tore Bena's clothes nor raped her, and unlike last time, there were no mercenaries and guards taking turns to come and have fun with her.
So she resumed her usual gloomy expression and started cursing everyone she knew, as if they all owed her something and had wronged her.
Even Sergeant Edmund, whom she had only recently met, sometimes cursed the officer and silently watched him with hateful eyes from the shadows.
She thought he was a hypocrite, a sanctimonious facade that made her constantly worried.
She always believed that sooner or later, these soldiers disguised as humans would tear off their warm facade and reveal their beastly nature.
If that day ever comes, Tania will feel relieved, proving that she wasn't wrong about everyone; everyone is the same, everyone is worse than an animal.
“You should all go to hell with that damned castle lord. Go now, go now,” Tania kept muttering to Kent.
"Mom, I'm leaving." Bena glanced cautiously at Tania.
The mother seemed not to hear him. She hunched over and stood beside her brother, her only expression being cursing.
She firmly believed that only in this way could she banish the ghost residing in Kent's body. Once the ghost was summoned by the gods, her Kent would recover.
Ordinary people are helpless when faced with such a disaster.
When the priest heard that the invaders Roman's army was about to arrive, he hurriedly fled. The holy water blessed by the gods was gone, and the sacred church was turned into a temporary warehouse by those people, filled with all kinds of supplies transported from afar.
She didn't believe everything would be alright.
In the decades of her miserable life, not a single day had been good. But she still lived, numbly lived, standing by her son's feverish body, her expression as dazed and confused as his.
Bella glanced at Tania, pursed her lips, and quietly left the house. She clutched the hem of her skirt, looked around, and moved slowly like a startled quail to the church entrance.
"You're here, come over here." Grol, who was sitting there, waved to her. "Where are your family members? Didn't I say you were all coming together?"
"Mom is watching over Kent..."
"Oh, your brother was quite frightened. Even Sergeant Edmund didn't expect that. What? He has a fever? Why didn't you say so? The fever hasn't gone down yet? What's your name again? Your name and age?"
Bella gave her name and age truthfully.
Vita quickly registered her identity with swift, flowing strokes of his pen, then turned and retrieved a set of copper distillation equipment from the warehouse.
“Vita, get some garlic, I need it.” She then turned to Bella and said, “Wait a moment.”
A response came from inside the warehouse.
Soon, a girl with braided pigtails came out of the warehouse, carrying a whip of garlic. She understood what was going on when she saw the copper distillation equipment.
"Come over and peel the garlic," Vita beckoned.
The tone of his voice caused Bena to misunderstand, and she obediently replied, "Yes, Miss/Madam."
Vita asked curiously, "Do I look like a noble lady to you?"
Bella looked Vita up and down. Vita had slightly cracked dark skin, a flat nose, and somewhat disheveled dark brown hair. She looked much like Bella, only much neater.
"Aren't you in charge?"
"But I am also a farmer's daughter."
Bella was deeply shocked. "You're a farmer's daughter, how can you become an official?"
“Who says it can’t be done?” Grol placed the cleaned copperware on the ground, lit the firewood below, and poured in the mashed garlic.
Bella looked at the scene before her with a bewildered expression.
"What are you doing?"
“Extracting allicin,” Grole said as he worked. “We originally intended it for livestock.”
Oxen and draft horses are worth far more than human lives, especially during this crucial time of spring plowing.
Bella was somewhat restless.
It's like magic, magic that brings misfortune.
The priest described the blasphemers as having sexual relations with numerous witches at night, giving birth to demonic offspring, a scene he found both terrifying and horrifying. She feared the device might explode or unleash something evil. Her fingers trembled involuntarily.
“Allicin cannot treat fever,” Vita said expressionlessly, glancing down at his ledger to write down the whereabouts of the garlic. “It can only play a supporting role.”
Grole's movements have stalled, she's doing poorly in physiotherapy, and she's always thought of it as a cure-all.
“Vita…” Grol looked pleadingly at the warehouse clerk.
“Boil willow bark in water,” Vita said, looking up at Bena. “Go find some fresh willow bark.”
As she spoke, she suddenly realized that the peasant girl was unarmed, so she turned and walked towards the warehouse. When she came out, she was carrying a wood-chopping knife. There weren't many other supplies, which needed to be distributed uniformly, but there were an unusually large number of cooking utensils and farm tools. Origin City had a large amount of ironware piled up, and they could take as much as they could.
"Where are the willow trees? Take me there... Huh? What are you standing there for? Are you feeling unwell? Have you caught something?"
A warm hand touched her forehead, and Bella's eyes widened involuntarily.
She clearly felt the somewhat rough, yet exceptionally real sensation.
That action seemed to instantly dispel all the fear and insecurity in her heart.
Now, she is fully aware of it.
The person standing in front of her was not an indescribable devilish subordinate.
Instead, they were two genuine, warm-hearted people who shared the same background as her.
