Chapter 122 The Terrifying Witch

"Snowing!"

Sanna turned to Gweil and said.

She happily reached out to catch the fluttering snowflakes, feeling their cool touch melt in her palm, which made her giggle.

Gweil sat at her desk, holding a pencil—a thick pencil specially made by Roman, baked from graphite and clay, wrapped in leather sleeves so as not to get her hands dirty—and intently copying words onto the pristine white paper.

Upon hearing this, she immediately frowned.

"I know it's snowing, but could you please keep your voice down!"

It's all that damned fisherwoman's fault!

Gweil was filled with resentment.

She was grounded; she didn't meet Roman's requirements.

They had originally agreed that they would face Roman's test together.

But that evening, the fisherwoman once again revealed that she possessed far more knowledge than Sanna. She racked her brains and took ten steps forward, finally managing to stand in the same position as Sanna, but to her surprise, Sanna unknowingly took another twenty steps forward, widening the gap even further.

Afterwards, Sanna pretended to be aggrieved and said that it was Káo who made her do it, that she should do her best and not hide her talents, and that she must win the praise of Lord Roman.

So, that good brother's good sister betrayed her again!

This is the second time!
unforgivable!

Gweil gritted her teeth and continued copying words until a small hand snatched the literacy book away.

Without the literacy book, the copying work could not continue—she didn't know many words now and could only rely on rote memorization.

But Sanna's actions angered her.

"What are you doing!"

Gweil suddenly stood up from her seat, angrily trying to snatch the literacy book back.

But Sanna was very agile, like a fish in the sea, and repeatedly dodged the attacks of the mountain fawns.

Gweil has her own room in this manor, with her own desk and stool, placed by the window.

Sanna would often come over to stay with her, but ever since the fisherwoman betrayed her a second time, she had never let her set foot here again.

This despicable fisherwoman was like a thorn in her side!

She actually dared to shamelessly come looking for her today. I tolerated it because I hadn't seen her for several days. She also tolerated her loud tantrum about snowing.

She's not blind; the window is right there when she looks up. How could she not know it was snowing?
A gentle breeze will blow snowflakes into the window; now is indeed a good time to chase after those light and beautiful snowflakes.

But the workload was even heavier, and Roman forbade her to leave the manor unless she could recite one hundred words from memory.

This strict attitude made her realize that Roman, who had always been gentle with her, would not indulge her behavior without limits.

She had no choice but to hurry up and copy down the words in order to gain Roman's forgiveness.

But now literacy books are gone!

She was really angry and chased Sanna in the room. However, her reaction and speed were slightly inferior, and Sanna repeatedly escaped.

The more she couldn't catch it, the more anxious she became; the more anxious she became, the less she could catch it. Before she knew it, her eyes were brimming with tears. Just then, Sanna's steps faltered, and she was tackled to the ground by Gevier, her back slamming heavily onto the floor, but she didn't care.

Gweil grabbed her collar forcefully and said fiercely, "You damned fisherwoman, give me back my notebook!"

Sanna said cautiously, "You cried... Gweil." "I didn't!" she cried, her voice trembling with sobs. The strenuous exercise had left her breathless, and she wiped her face haphazardly with her sleeve.

“I don’t want to make you angry, but you haven’t talked to me in a long time, and you never look at me when I talk to you.” Sanna was also panting. She and her eyes met. The light blue eyes reflected brown eyes, and in the depths of those brown eyes, a pair of light blue eyes bloomed, endlessly cycling.

“You betrayed me! We made a promise! You disappointed Roman! I actually disappointed him, I’m in so much pain! I shouldn’t have met you, and I shouldn’t have let you step into this place! You should have frozen to death in the winter night, your body eaten by wild beasts! That way you wouldn’t bother my ears!” Gweil’s small face was contorted with rage, her emotions surging, and she let those vicious words gush from her throat, sending a chill down one’s spine.

Sanna's chest heaved as Gevier pressed down on her, making it hard for her to breathe. Now, she felt suffocated, as if Gevier had become a completely different person.

Those voices seemed to possess some kind of magic, lingering in her mind for a long time, to the point that she even experienced a kind of hallucination—

The innocent and kind girl in her body has now transformed into a cold and terrifying witch, like the darkness before dawn. The dim shadows flow across her face, and her vicious words possess a certain power, like dark venomous snakes coiling around her body, making her feel cold all over.

Perhaps it was the temperature drop brought by the first snow, but she felt cold in her hands and feet.

She had heard the secrets and rumors surrounding the girl before her, and had even followed her into the deep mountains, knowing that she had survived alone there for two years. But who could survive in such a harsh environment unless they were the offspring of wild animals?
Those rumors made the girl's position in the manor very special. The maids were initially afraid of her terrible past and dared not approach her. The manor owner set an example and resolved her loneliness.

But she still had no friends or companions and was often alone. While other children were learning and working, she could only watch from afar. At first, she couldn't even get close to them until they became fast friends.

Kao didn't stop her; instead, he silently encouraged her. The cold-blooded man wasn't afraid of the witch's eerie power, nor did he believe his sister would be harmed by her. And as they spent more time together, she gradually forgot Gweil's true identity.

Now we've finally glimpsed a corner of that abyss!
Dangerous Geviel, evil Geviel, terrifying Geviel, dark Geviel!
She vaguely saw that hidden, sinister power overflowing from her body, as if it were tangible, lingering around her lips.

A mysterious and unpredictable power is flowing.

Dark and profound, terrifying yet sublime.

Sanna couldn't describe her feelings at that moment. She felt a turmoil of emotions, a mix of surprise, fear, and anger, as if her life was threatened, but a strange, indescribable excitement made her tremble.

“Gerva, I want your forgiveness. Have you forgotten our friendship? Playing on the grass, frolicking in the water, we used to get along so well. I don’t want to betray you, and I don’t want you to embarrass yourself in front of Lord Roman. But Káo made me perform well in front of the Lord, and I told him about our plan, and then he hit me…” Sanna rolled up her sleeve, revealing the lingering marks and whip marks on her wheat-colored arm.

Gweil was stunned for a moment. All the coldness and darkness disappeared from her, and she transformed back into a girl with innocent eyes.

“But Roman has grounded me,” she said sadly, her head bowed.

“I’m here to help you, to help you learn those words faster. Remember the numbers I taught you before? You learned them quickly, didn’t you? It’s the same with words… That’s how Kao taught me. He said they trained during the day and learned to read at night. The soldiers would take turns memorizing words in the dark, and they learned very quickly. If I help you, you can learn 100 words very quickly,” Sanna said.

"Really?" She bit her lip.

“Yes, we’re friends, how could I abandon you? I’ll teach you tonight. I don’t want to stay with Kao anymore. He’s too strict with me. If I slack off even once, he hits me and whips me. It hurts so much.”

Gweil thought Sanna was lying; how could her sister not want to be with her brother? Even if Kao hit her, he was still her brother.

Sanna often complained to her about Khal Drogo, saying he had gone mad after becoming a knight-in-waiting and tormented her even more. But when she joined in the complaints, Sanna would say he wasn't so bad after all.

"I take back what I just said. I was momentarily confused..." Gweil said, somewhat annoyed.

She has the sacred salt to suppress her power, but that doesn't mean she has no power at all. Those people are still very afraid. Even when the manor maid combs her hair, she is somewhat apprehensive, fearing that something bad might happen to her.

Only Sanna was unafraid of her and could wholeheartedly accompany her, yet she attacked her only friend, which made her very uneasy.

"I don't blame you. I was in the wrong first. I'll come and sleep with you tonight and teach you words, okay?" Sanna lay on the ground, gently patting Gweil's back with her palm.

Sanna thought, "It seems I am somewhat similar to Kao. He always has a fearless personality."

This was just something Gweil said unintentionally; there's nothing to worry about or be afraid of.

Gweil buried her face in Sanna's arms.

After a long while, she said in a muffled voice:
"it is good……"
