Chapter 10 Differences and Oppression

Faced with Chu Xiu's question, Wang Long grinned and replied without hesitation, "I've been thinking about this problem before, but now that we have Yunlu, it's much easier."

“I plan to split us into three parts. You and I will be the attack points, the remaining person will be the bait, and the other person will be responsible for closing the door.”

"When we were searching the eleventh floor, we found a house with a large iron door. The soundproofing was obviously very good. As long as we closed the door, it would greatly cover up the noise of our battle. Even if other monsters came, they would be kept out of the door, giving us plenty of time to react."

"My plan is to first use the Cloud Deer to find out the location of the nearby monsters, and when the time is right, have the decoy make a sound to attract the monsters, and then have the others cooperate to kill them."

"As for the spoils of war, you and I were in charge of the battle, so we'll naturally take the lion's share, splitting 70% equally."

What do you think of this plan?

Wang Long's words made Chu Xiu look at him with a hint of surprise.

His plan was almost identical to Chu Xiu's own idea, and he even noticed the resident on the eleventh floor just like Chu Xiu.

Moreover, Wang Long's proposed distribution plan clearly disregarded Li Shan and Yun Lu's thoughts and only aimed to win them over, obviously recognizing that the two had no say in the matter.

This guy isn't brainless after all.

Thinking of this, Chu Xiu smiled faintly: "I think your plan is very good."

"So, only one question remains."

Who will be the bait?

As soon as he finished speaking, the room fell into a deathly silence. Fear filled Yunlu's face, while Li Shan forced a smile and said, "Are we really... really going to fight those monsters? Maybe we should just forget it. Didn't our teacher say that we shouldn't take risks unless we have a talent or profession of at least B-rank?"

"That depends on the specific circumstances!"

Before he could finish speaking, Wang Long interrupted him, glaring at him and saying, "This matter has already been settled! Do you have the right to interrupt?"

Li Shan was clearly afraid of Wang Long, and lowered his head, not daring to object. After a long while, he said, "Then, then I'll go close the door. I have the talent of holding my breath, so I'm less likely to be discovered."

As soon as he finished speaking, Yunlu's face turned pale, while Wang Long chuckled dismissively.

But Li Shan didn't care at all. He just looked at Chu Xiu cautiously, his eyes pleading.

Yunlu also realized what was happening and looked at Chu Xiu for help.

Wang Long crossed his arms and waited for his reply.

Under the gaze of the three, Chu Xiu remained expressionless, simply saying indifferently, "Yun Lu, come and close the door."

As soon as she finished speaking, Yunlu breathed a sigh of relief, while Li Shan's eyes widened, his fists clenched, and his face was full of anger: "Chu Xiu! We're classmates! You, you, how could you do this!"

"Shut up!"

Wang Long slapped Li Shan across the face and cursed, "Just go! If you behave yourself, I'll keep you safe. If you keep talking, I'll kill you and use you as bait!"

Wang Long was clearly used to bullying others at school. This slap left Li Shan dazed and confused. He covered his face and said desperately, "You won't give me my share either, will you?"

"What are you saying?" Wang Long said, displeased. "As long as you work hard, you'll get your share!"

Li Shan fell silent, but Chu Xiu caught the venom in his eyes.

Not just towards Wang Long, but also towards him.

This made Chu Xiu sigh slightly.

He had known all along that such a thing would happen in the abyss, and no matter how many times the school emphasized not to fight among themselves, it was useless.

An experiment was conducted abroad in which a group of ordinary subjects were locked up together, and each person was randomly assigned the identities of either a prison guard or a prisoner.

At first, everything was harmonious, but after a few days, bullying, oppression, and fighting began one after another.

As long as differences exist in identity, status, and power, people will quickly become alienated into classes, followed by oppression and resistance.

In the abyss, the allure of extraordinary power, the dangerous external environment, and the lack of legal constraints all act as catalysts to accelerate this process.

Can you expect those unruly hooligans in school to become even more unruly after gaining superhuman strength and being free from the constraints of rules?

There's always a need for people to do dangerous things, but compared to Yunlu, Li Shan's value is lower, which is why he was chosen.

Chu Xiu was well aware that in such a chaotic place, where the laws of the primitive jungle prevailed, if he did not maintain order, he might one day find himself in Li Shan's position, being dominated by the stronger.

But he had no intention of intervening. Because, as far as the current situation concerned, it served his interests, nothing more.

“Then it’s settled,” Wang Long grinned, seeing that no one objected. “Let’s get some rest today and set off tomorrow morning.”

"As long as everyone follows the plan, there won't be any problems. We can all accumulate [Causality Points] and level up!"

He laughed and used a leather belt he found somewhere to tie himself and Li Shan together. Li Shan was like a dog that had been tied up beside him.

Wang Long led him into one of the bedrooms and closed the door.

Clearly, he did not completely trust Chu Xiu.

Just as Chu Xiu was watching Wang Long's departing figure, a voice as faint as a mosquito's buzz rang in his ear:

"Um, thank you."

Chu Xiu turned his head and glanced at Yun Lu, who was still nervous and uneasy, without saying anything more.

He simply said:
"Go to sleep."

The nights in the apocalypse were not easy; the weather turned colder than expected.

Cold wind blew in through the broken window frame. Even though Chu Xiu and Yun Lu were huddled in the corner, the cold wind still hit their faces from time to time, like small knives, freezing their ears.

There were some tattered bedding in the room, but most of it was moldy, stiff, and covered with a thick layer of dust.

The only food available was raw gray mushrooms, which had a disgusting texture, like eating a tough sponge.

But in order to maintain his strength and replenish his fluids, Chu Xiu forced himself to eat quite a lot.

"There aren't many mushrooms in the building, so we still need to find a stable water source."

"There should be a river nearby. The school taught us about simple filtration devices. If all else fails, we can check if there is any water in the water tanks in the building."

Just as Chu Xiu was pondering this, a shrill scream suddenly came from upstairs!
"what!!!"

The scream pierced the silent night sky, followed by a dense chorus of hurried footsteps, like countless predators besieging a dying fawn.

This was the third scream Chu Xiu had heard all night.

More terrifying than the cold and hunger was the fact that the monsters roaming the apartment buildings seemed to become more active at night.

There were far more monsters in the apartment building than they had imagined. Judging from the footsteps, their numbers inexplicably surged at night, and their senses seemed to become more acute.

A series of flashing black shadows swept across the wall, and Yunlu shrank back closer to Chu Xiu in fear.

He could feel that Yunlu's hands were very cold, and sometimes he could hear her teeth chattering uncontrollably.

Clearly, the clothes they were wearing, which had been stored away for over thirty years, were not very effective at keeping them warm, and the bedding they found was also stiff and hard, with the silk floss inside oxidized.

"Wear this."

Chu Xiu took off his tattered cotton-padded clothes and equipment. Without putting them on or taking them off, the clothes appeared on the ground with a thought.

Yunlu gasped softly, her face flushing red. She instinctively wanted to refuse, but after a moment's hesitation, she put on Chu Xiu's equipment.

Then he quickly took off his coat and stuffed it into Chu Xiu's hands, stammering, "This, this is for you."

Chu Xiu calmly put it on. His physique had become much stronger after the upgrade, so he wasn't as afraid of the cold. He didn't want Yun Lu to get sick from the cold, as that would be troublesome, since he would still need her to find food in the future.

After putting on Chu Xiu's clothes, perhaps feeling his lingering body heat, Yun Lu's face turned even redder, all the way to the roots of her ears, but at least she stopped trembling.

After a while, she fell asleep leaning on Chu Xiu's shoulder.

Chu Xiu also closed his eyes, seizing the time to rest and recover his strength.

By the time the sun rose, Yunlu was already nestled in Chu Xiu's arms, sleeping soundly.

Chu Xiu carefully pushed her aside and found a set of simpler clothes more suitable for fighting in the bedroom closet.

The hunt is about to begin.
