Chapter 93 Installation
The car dismantling took only two days, but according to Yu Dawei's estimate, it should have taken at least three or four days.

There's really no way around it; working with the old man is just too much. He's like a never-ending, never-ending car-dismantling machine.

Yu Dawei regretted bringing the old man out, mainly because he was afraid that the old man would get tired and his back pain would flare up again.

On the third day, Yu Dawei began cleaning all parts of the mini excavator. He also brushed away the oil stains that had accumulated over the years, so that the parts would not be damaged by dirt during the subsequent installation.

The engine has been transported to the scrap yard. Yu Dawei and the old man repaired, disassembled, and assembled new parts, and finally added a separate test of the engine.

The method is very simple: fix the engine, connect the battery and diesel fuel, and listen to the sound after jump-starting. These are just basic skills of experienced mechanics.

The engine is relatively small, so it is easier to control. Yu Dawei can also feel the engine's dynamism and the condition of the entire engine block during the start-up process.

After the engine was repaired, the pump body of the PW40 was replaced, as were the oil lines and distributor. However, since a PW40 model was not available, a distributor of a different model from Komatsu was used as a substitute.

The rotary gear was fine. Although it wasn't a PW40, it was usable and of good quality. Yu Dawei cleaned the rotary gear and left it to dry.

On the fourth day, the father and son began installing the main body, engine, hydraulic pump, slewing gear, etc. As for the boom, forearm, and bucket, the parts had not all arrived yet, but they could be added later.

Yu Dawei replaced all four tires yesterday. The tire treads had been worn down, so he felt more at ease using them after the replacement.

When I sold it to the previous buyer, the buyer must have deliberately aged it by replacing the tires with the kind that are used for a lot of work and are almost worn out. Now I have to make sure that my car is perfect in every aspect.

In the evening, Boss Liang came to deliver parts again and had a meal at Duan Dahai's place. Yu Dawei bought a goose from the morning market. The vehicle is now about two-thirds repaired, with only the hydraulic system, the connection of the boom and arm, and the debugging remaining.

During this period, Brother Duan and the old man put in a lot of effort, and Boss Liang also delivered the packages time and time again without getting tired of it. Yu Dawei insisted on rewarding everyone.

It's an old dish: Northeastern-style braised goose in an iron pot.

Duan Dahai still had a large amount of loose liquor, so Yu Dawei didn't buy any more. He started plucking the goose's feathers directly. There happened to be some high-proof loose liquor, so he poured half a bowl, lit a fire, and used the flames to roast the fine feathers on the goose's outer skin that were difficult to remove.

After preparing it, chop it into pieces, keeping the goose liver, goose heart, and goose blood. Heat oil in a wok and stir-fry all the goose meat until it sizzles and oil is released. Yu Dawei then adds various seasonings, water, and starts stewing. After an hour, he adds potatoes, goose liver, and goose heart, while the goose blood is steamed separately on a bamboo steamer rack.

After that, there's no need to add firewood to the stove. Simmer over a low flame, adding a little more if the flame gets too small, until it's finally done.

Yu Dawei doesn't know how to make flatbread in a pan; he bought steamed buns instead.

Although the skill of stewing goose in an iron pot is only so-so, the goose is a free-range goose from the village, and the aroma of it is so enticing that even the garbage collectors who come to collect it from outside linger.

The group of people drank and chatted.

Yu Dawei's PW40 wheeled excavator naturally became an important topic, mainly because of the availability of work. Boss Liang felt that the truck was worth the investment, and even if there were no jobs, he could still make a lot of money by selling it later.

Boss Liang has become increasingly bold lately, systematically replacing agricultural machinery parts with excavator parts. He also has many suppliers, some of whom even extend overseas.

He has the makings of a businessman.

Yu Dawei had a clear idea of how to use the small excavator: to help his third uncle make some money by bringing electricity to the village. There was also a tree planting project in the next year or two. If there was no work after completing these two projects, he could sell it.

Boss Liang said that the parts for the upper arm and forearm might take another two days, but Yu Dawei wasn't in a hurry, as there was still plenty of time before his third uncle needed the vehicle.

He then discussed it with the old man and decided to go back to the village the next day to take a two-day break. However, before leaving, he had to go to the construction site to check on his old Hitachi and the two Ackerman trucks for their weekly routine inspection.

These machines have been very reliable and haven't caused me any trouble lately. Otherwise, I might have been really overwhelmed. If one excavator needs repair, I won't be able to take care of this small wheeled excavator.

The next day, Yu Dawei went to the site. Supervisor Chang had already returned, and Xiao Bai had gone back to the branch office a couple of days ago to take care of his own business.

Looking at the old Hitachi, Axe had maintained the vehicle very well, but the gear lever was probably too old. Over time, the plastic ball on it had completely cracked and broken. Yu Dawei had a flash of inspiration and removed the gear lever cap from the four-wheeled vehicle, which could be placed on the old Hitachi.

When I go back, I can just get a new one from Lao Liang. Gear levers are minor issues; as long as the engine and hydraulic system are working properly, it's fine.

Fu Zi's mentality has improved a lot recently, and he's noticeably gained some weight, though he's still tall and thin. Huang Man's skills are also improving, which has given Yu Dawei a lot of confidence.

After all, which car maintenance company owner wouldn't want a good operator like Yao Jinfu who understands maintenance and can actually operate an excavator?

During a routine check, both Ackerman excavators encountered some problems. The Ackerman 11 that Master Lü was repairing had a power issue, with significantly insufficient power compared to last week. Yu Dawei quickly adjusted the distributor, which improved the situation considerably, but it was still noticeable that the excavator's performance was declining while working.

Later, Yu Dawei had a flash of inspiration and called over another Ackerman operator from section 7 to start this machine again. The result was obvious: the weak and powerless Ackerman started to work faster.

Supervisor Chang also noticed the problem. The original operator was too aggressive, making large movements and not controlling the digging properly, which put a lot of pressure on the excavator. The new operator, on the other hand, had clearly toned down his movements and was naturally faster.

However, it is undeniable that this Ackermann will need another maintenance on its hydraulic system in a short period of time.

According to Yu Dawei's estimate, it should last until winter. Later, he can replace the oil filter, adjust the distributor and solenoid valve, and if necessary, clean the oil system.

Supervisor Chang's suggestion that the two trainees exchange their experiences was also a subtle reminder to the other trainee that if his skills didn't improve, he might have to be replaced.

Seeing that there was nothing more for him to do, Yu Dawei turned around and followed his father away in the four-wheeled vehicle.

After a long day, it was almost five o'clock when I came out of Mr. Liang's parts store.

My younger sister, Yu Fang, also had a day off today. Since Yu Dawei and my grandfather were going back to their old village anyway, they went to the central school in town to wait for my sister to get out of school.

"Dad, my little sister is out." Yu Dawei sat next to the four-wheeled vehicle and pointed to Yu Fang, who was pushing her bicycle out of the school gate in the distance.

She has short hair, wears overalls and a plaid shirt, and carries a small green backpack. Her chubby little face is very cute, and her eyes, like black diamonds, are very beautiful.

The only thing that wasn't pretty was that there was a young boy following her, one in front of the other. The boy had an obviously ingratiating expression and kept trying to find topics to chat about with Yu Fang.

Originally, when the old father, Yu Laonian, followed Yu Dawei's gaze and saw his youngest daughter, his wrinkled face broke into a bright smile. He hadn't seen his daughter for a while.

Perhaps inspired by her sister-in-law's dedication to studying despite only being in second grade, she rarely went home on weekends this year, determined to get into high school.

However, before the old father could even call his daughter over, her smiling face vanished without a trace upon seeing the boy next to her.

"Uh, what kind of 'dog skin plaster' is stuck on my little sister?" Yu Dawei awkwardly withdrew his hand. Damn it, he should have known better than to reach out. Why was he so annoying?

"Go and bring your little sister over here, let's go home," Old Yu said in a muffled voice, indicating that he was in a very bad mood.

"Okay." Yu Dawei didn't dare hesitate, quickly pushing through the crowd and heading towards the school gate. "Hey sis!"

"Big Brother!" Yu Fang's eyes lit up when she saw her brother, and she quickly ran to Yu Dawei, pushing her bicycle. "Big Brother, what brings you here?"

Yu Fang had just walked up to Yu Dawei when the young boy behind her arrived.

Yu Dawei took the old bicycle from home, glanced at the boy next to him, and then looked at his younger sister: "It just so happens that Dad and I are going back to the village today, so we'll take you back with us."

"Okay!" Yu Fang glanced back at the boy. "I'm leaving now. Don't follow me. Go home quickly."

“It’s alright, I’ll take you.” The boy didn’t argue with Fang, and quickly moved closer to Yu Dawei and grabbed his hand. “Future brother-in-law, seeing is believing. My name is Duan Xiaowu. Please take care of me in the future.”

Yu Dawei's lips twitched, and he forcefully pulled his right hand away, forcing a smile: "Hello, what an interesting kid."

After saying that, he led his younger sister to the four-wheeled vehicle. Sure enough, the young boy behind him followed them there. However, when he saw the old man's murderous eyes, he immediately chickened out, said hello, and ran away as if fleeing.

“This young man has a sunken forehead and a short philtrum; he’s obviously destined for a short life.” Old Yu looked at Yu Fang with a deep gaze. “Old lady, you should stay away from him from now on, understand?”

"I know, Dad. He's always bothering me, helping me with my chores, carrying water buckets and stuff. I'm too embarrassed to confront him." Yu Fang said timidly; she was still quite afraid of her father when he was serious.

Yu Laonian was speechless and looked at Yu Dawei: "What are you standing there for? Drive home."

Yu Dawei shrugged, threw the old bicycle into the truck bed, and drove the four-wheeled vehicle toward the village.

He had vaguely thought of something just now, but the old man called him and he forgot it all.

"Never mind, it shouldn't be a big deal." Yu Dawei didn't pay much attention, gripped the steering wheel, and drove through the crowd and the road, exiting the dirt road in Laotun.
