Chapter 158 Deutz Engine Repair Methods
“Now that we’re here, there’s no reason to go back. Don’t worry, I’ve offended a lot of people when I was young, but I’m still alive and well.” Master Lü’s pickup truck continued westward. “But I have to tell my apprentice, after all, it’s not easy for him to have a family to support.”

"I understand." Yu Dawei nodded.

According to the XCMG engineer, the Atlas Copco that broke down at the mine was in the western mining area, and there were two other trucks that were also stopped there for maintenance.

So-called maintenance is just routine oil changes and cleaning.

On the road, you can often see huge dump trucks whizzing past their small pickup trucks. How big are they? Just one of the dump truck's tires is as big as half a pickup truck's.

This type of truck cannot be called a dump truck; it has a professional name: mining dump truck. Most of these trucks have sixteen or eighteen cylinders and can easily carry at least two hundred tons of ore.

The roads were all dirt and gravel. At that time, the mine was still quite rudimentary. In a few years, the office buildings would be paved with cement.

Yu Dawei clearly remembers how good the environment of the mine's office area was when he went to work there; there was no dust flying everywhere.

"We've arrived." Master Lü glanced around and saw the three vehicles parked on the north side. Next to them was a large garage, even larger than the one he had seen at the oil city equipment factory, but it was still unlikely that the mining dump trucks could fit inside.

"Brother, look! There are several foreigners next to that excavator, and they seem to be doing maintenance on some of the other excavators," Yao Jinfu said, pointing to a group of people in the distance.

As the group looked around, they saw three large white excavators with three foreigners standing next to them. Each of them was dressed very cleanly, and they seemed to be discussing something. There were also several local mechanics working on the excavators.

Yu Dawei withdrew his gaze and said calmly, "Ignore them, fixing the car is the priority."

The car was parked next to the leftmost excavator. According to XCMG, the excavator with the broken engine was the one located on the west side of the repair depot.

Furthermore, a red circular sign indicating "Under Repair" was affixed to the counterweight.

Atlas is an Audi brand, and the 3306 model is considered a classic Atlas model used in mining operations.

The overall advantages of Atlas excavators are their fast operation, fuel efficiency, labor saving, large bucket capacity (about one-third larger than comparable models), and decent quality. The Deutz engine certainly plays a key role in all of this.

However, it's not without its drawbacks. Atlas excavators generally travel very slowly, and the chain is quite noisy when it gets stuck in the dirt. They are also relatively expensive.
To be honest, Yu Dawei was very confused. It was impossible for the Atlas, which he had only bought a few years ago, to have its most powerful engine break down. If you said the oil pump was broken, Yu Dawei might believe it, but the Deutz engine was different from this excavator.

Deutz is a brand that specializes in producing engines, and it has been doing so since the 1800s. Its technology is very mature. Its combination with Atlas is like Atlas buying many of the same model of engine from a manufacturer that produces engines.

According to Yu Dawei's analysis, if the Oude repair personnel really intend to take the broken iron back to China, it is very likely that it will not be as simple as just testing, but may also be sent to the Deutz factory for repair.

This will take even longer, and I wonder if Mr. Huang knows that the engine is from Deutz. He probably does, since he was the one who purchased this batch of cars back then.

"Is this Mr. Yu?" Yu Dawei had just looked up and stopped when an unfamiliar voice came from beside him.

The newcomers were the same group of Germans on the far right. Standing in front of them was a bespectacled man in blue overalls, with an Asian face, who spoke fluent Mandarin.

Axe and Barbarian, who were originally moving tools to the excavator, suddenly became alert and their gazes toward the foreigners turned serious.

"You need something from me?" Yu Dawei glanced indifferently at the group of four.

The bespectacled man subconsciously adjusted his glasses and turned to chat with a blond man with a ponytail.

After listening, the blond man spoke a few more words to the man with glasses.

“This is Lucas, the after-sales engineer for Atlas excavators, and his colleagues are behind him.” The bespectacled man’s eyes flickered visibly before he finally looked at Yu Dawei and said with a forced smile, “These bastards are calling you idiots. You’re not even worthy of touching such complex machinery.”

Yu Dawei frowned. Huang Man and Yao Jinfu behind him stood up to argue with them, but he stopped them with his hand.

After glancing at the bespectacled man, he turned his gaze to the leader, Lucas Odelo, who seemed to sense his stare and gave a genuine smile.

With that completely harmless expression, you're telling me he's insulting me? Does he really think Yu Dawei is an idiot?

Master Lü, who was standing next to him, also noticed something was wrong and snorted coldly: "With this level of skill, you're not qualified to be a translator."

"Hmph, that's what he said anyway, believe it or not." The bespectacled man looked noticeably guilty, turned to Lucas and said a few words, then the group quickly left.

"Xiao Yu, do you see this? They're planning to target us at every turn," Master Lü said kindly as he approached Yu Dawei.

"Let's be fully prepared." Yu Dawei glanced at Manzi and Yao Jinfu. "Start disassembling the car."

Master Lü and Yu Dawei went up to the top of the excavator. The disassembly process was basically the same, including the connection points of the engine, the muffler, the exhaust pipe, and so on.

The four of them clearly defined their roles on the way. Yu Dawei and Master Lü started by working from the top, while Yu Dawei went under the car to remove the oil pan, drain the engine oil, and remove some connecting pipes and wires.

Yao Jinfu was responsible for assisting Master Lü, and Huang Man was responsible for assisting Yu Dawei. Their main tasks were handing over wrenches, helping to hold the levers during disassembly, and other miscellaneous tasks. Both of them were master repairmen of special machinery, so they were naturally very skilled at repairs. What seemed like tricky angles and difficult screws to outsiders were handled by them with tools and leverage, no different from children taking apart toys.

The speed at which these two disassembled the items left Yao Jinfu and Huang Man completely dumbfounded.

Especially Yao Jinfu, back when he was in technical school, there were repair instructors who taught classes, and they would also listen in. Compared with those instructors, the things these two disassembled could only be described with two words—smooth as silk.

The disassembly process proceeded without any pause. The two men squatted next to the engine without exchanging a single word. As soon as Master Lü looked up, Yu Dawei knew that Master Lü needed a No. 21 wrench and handed him the No. 21 wrench that he had just used.

Yu Dawei paused there, and then Master Lü handed over a ratchet with a socket wrench. A set of Torx wrenches, a set of ratchet wrenches, and a set of open-end wrenches—these three sets of tools were used in a variety of ways by these two "master craftsmen".

Starting at eight o'clock in the morning and continuing until around ten o'clock, about two hours later, the two men had disassembled almost all the key parts of the engine.

The screws that needed to be kept were definitely retained.

“Brother, at this rate, I think we can finish it in two days.” Yao Jinfu squatted down next to the engine on the roof of the car, looking through the gap at Yu Dawei under the car. He was very confident about the engine repair.

"It's hard to say. You never know how dirty other people's hearts are. They may be all smiles on the surface, but they're full of scum in their hearts." Yu Dawei lay on the ground, with a cardboard box laid out beneath him. He was turning the oil drain plug with both hands, preparing to drain the oil.

On the roof of the vehicle, Mr. Lü was removing the black fan cover from the fan blades. Upon hearing this, he raised an eyebrow and thought to himself, "Wow."

I never expected that this guy with thick eyebrows and big eyes would learn such down-to-earth swear words in just a few days in Qingcheng.

“Don’t be fooled by how quickly it’s disassembled; this is just the external connection. The internal parts of the engine also need to be disassembled, and then reassembled…” Master Lü glanced at Yao Jinfu and smiled, “It’s not that simple.”

Yu Dawei, standing under the car, wholeheartedly agreed and turned to look at the two thick legs outside: "Barbarian, get me an empty bucket, I need to catch the oil."

"Okay, Brother Dawei." The two thick legs trotted away.

Suddenly, a foreigner's face appeared in front of Yu Dawei. The man squatted down, tilted his head, and stared blankly at Yu Dawei. Then he gave him a thumbs up, with a hint of admiration in his eyes.

Lucas never expected that a mere cardboard box could be used in such a way, which refreshed his understanding of repair.

Turning to his translator, he said in fluent German, "Aren't you going to provide them with some tools? I remember your repair shop has a lot of special repair ramps."

The bespectacled man frowned, then smiled and explained, "They are outsiders. The tools in our mine are for internal use only."

Lucas shook his head helplessly and left with his colleagues. The engine oil had been changed, and the morning's work was over.

He was full of expectations before going abroad, after all, it was the most mysterious country in the East, but after arriving here, many things puzzled him.

They insisted on issuing a Deutz inspection application for the excavator, even though it could be repaired at the mine. They're both maintenance engineers, working for the same place, yet they insist on dividing it up as their own.

Although he hadn't received much formal education in Oude, he still felt that this was really not a good thing.

However, there is one really good thing about people from the East!
There was plenty of delicious food every day, and the place to sleep was very quiet and comfortable. Most importantly, I would inexplicably receive a lot of rewards.

He had witnessed firsthand how generous the Chinese people were. Not only him, but his three colleagues had also fallen in love with China.

He also respected the local culture. In short, he kept in mind the instructions of his superiors before he went abroad: never get involved in the affairs of people from other countries.

Otherwise, it could be seen as disrespect for their culture.

Lucas nodded to himself. In any case, the money he earned from this business trip was enough for him to buy a car when he returned home.

"Brother, guess what that guy with glasses was saying to that Russian?" Yao Jinfu had naturally overheard their conversation and was curious.

"Who cares?" Yu Dawei was busy removing the oil pan screws. "Axe, throw down the ratchet extension rod on top."

"Okay, get out of the way." Yao Jinfu threw the silver extension pole, which was about twenty centimeters long, down through the gap.

Yu Dawei had already hidden far away under the car. Only after he saw that the extension rod had stopped bouncing on the ground did he move over and attach the extension rod to the ratchet.

To remove the oil pan screw, a socket wrench and ratchet are the most convenient tools. Of course, with the increasing popularity of electric equipment in the future, an electric wrench will be even more convenient.

"It's a pity I didn't," Yu Dawei thought to himself. "Luckily, I'm young and have plenty of strength."

"Open it for me!" Yu Dawei turned the wrench counterclockwise with force, and with two "click" sounds, the screw and the oil pan began to loosen.
