Chapter 131 Night Road
"Also, take Dawei to town with you. Find him a decent hotel and buy him whatever he needs." After giving his instructions, Uncle San glanced at Dawei again. "I'll pick you up from town tomorrow. Eat something good tonight and get a good night's sleep. We'll still need your expertise in repairing cars."

The third uncle then took out the car keys from his pocket, handed them to Qi Dadu, and turned to walk towards the repair shop yard next door.

Yu Dawei stared at his third uncle's thin yet resolute back, and for a moment he didn't know what to say.

"Boss Xiao, let's go now. I'm afraid we won't be able to finish buying the parts if we're late." Qi Dadu gave a wry smile and unconsciously stroked his belly with his right hand.

“Okay.” Yu Dawei didn’t refuse and got into the passenger seat of the SUV, but he still glanced at the repair shop’s yard one last time.

Qi Dadu saw everything, but said nothing. He drove away from the convoy and quickly headed towards the town in the distance.

The sky outside gradually darkened, and the roadside was lined with withered reeds.

In autumn, most of the plains in Northeast China are dry meadows like this. Occasionally, when there is a lot of water accumulation during the rainy season, the reeds will grow more lush in autumn.

Yu Dawei gazed at the sunlight filtering through the fuzzy golden tips of the reeds, and finally couldn't help but speak up: "That guy called Skinny Monkey..."

"Boss Xiao." Qi Dadu's tone became unusually serious, and his expression also became slightly more earnest.

His right foot was on the accelerator, his left hand gripped the steering wheel, and all he could see was a mix of black and white: "Don't ask, don't think, don't look. This is the best protection your third brother can give you."

“You’re different from us. You’re young, capable, and your family, while not exactly wealthy, at least won’t go hungry. Unlike us, when we were kids, some of our brothers and sisters actually starved to death.” Qi Daduzi spoke sincerely to Yu Dawei, “We people have long since taken life and death lightly.”

"Do you know what Third Brother said to me and Fourth Baldy the day you left the project site?" Qi Dadu's lips curled up slightly as he turned to look at Yu Dawei. "He said that we all deserve to die, so there's no need to involve you."

“I think Third Brother is right. Although I haven’t studied much, I’ve traveled all over the country with Third Brother and have seen a bit of the world.” Qi Daduzi refocused his gaze on the front. “I always feel that in the future, there will be no more fighting and killing. I believe that the pitch-black night will soon be over.”

"So, Boss Xiao, you should embrace tomorrow, not stand in the darkness." After saying this, Qi Dadudu suddenly chuckled self-deprecatingly, "I was just saying it casually, just a thought, a spontaneous thought."

"I understand." Yu Dawei pursed his lips. If he didn't consider me a friend and brother, how could he say such a thing?

Yu Dawei turned to look at Qi Dadu: "Didn't you eat enough this afternoon? Let's go to town and get something good to eat?"

“Sure! You’re the savior of our whole convoy right now. Tell us what you want to eat, and we’ll take you there.” Qi Daduzi seemed to have forgotten about the previous topic and looked at Yu Dawei with a smile. “Anyway, the final expense will be charged to Third Brother.”

"Okay, I'll buy you a pack of cigarettes." Yu Dawei reached up and rubbed his forehead.

"Boss Yu is so generous!" Qi Dadudu mimicked Yu Dawei's gesture from his time in the project department, extending his right hand to give him a thumbs up.

Yu Dawei chuckled to himself, speechless. All the skills he had revealed at the project site had been learned by Qi Dadu.

The two quickly arrived in town, found a decent restaurant, enjoyed a hot meal, and then Qi Dadu led Yu Dawei to a hotel across the street to stay.

After Yu Dawei had made all the arrangements, it was completely dark.

Qi, heavily pregnant, got into the car and, following the spotlight under the hotel sign, drove alone towards the dark highway.

But one thing about Yu Dawei hasn't changed: when he needs to be carefree, he won't overthink things.

I took a nice, relaxing shower at the hotel, then lay down on the bed and fell asleep almost immediately, with occasional soft snoring coming from my nose.

From midnight last night until now, I've been either on the road or working, and haven't had much time to rest.

With a warm room and a full stomach, Yu Dawei slept soundly.

It wasn't even dawn until around four or five o'clock the next morning.

There was a knocking sound coming from the door of his room.

Yu Dawei opened his sleepy eyes, took a couple of breaths, then reached out and lifted the white blanket. He put on his slippers and called out to the door, "Who is it? I'm here."

When the door opened, Qi Dadu was standing there. He looked a little tired, with faint dark circles under his eyes, probably from not sleeping for two days.

"Come on, let's eat. Third Brother is waiting for you downstairs for breakfast." Qi Dadu patted his big belly. "I'm starving too. I ran around all night yesterday and I'm exhausted."

"Okay, wait a moment, I'll get dressed." Yu Dawei agreed, quickly returned to his room to change, and then followed Qi Dadu downstairs.

This hotel is one of the best in town, and it includes breakfast.

However, whether it was because Qi was heavily pregnant or because his third uncle disliked the breakfast there, they went straight to the porridge shop across the street.

Around four or five o'clock, they were the first customers at the porridge shop in town. When Yu Dawei and Qi Dadu arrived at the door, they saw a pickup truck loaded with spare parts. Cube-shaped spare parts boxes were perfectly embedded in the truck bed, tightly bound together with two black leather ropes.

"Eat first, then help us take a look at these emergency-obtained parts. We don't know much about them, so we're all counting on you." Qi Dadu pushed Yu Dawei into the house.

Qi Dadu was right about that. Now the entire team depends on Master Xiao. Everything else has to take a backseat. Only repairing cars and Master Xiao are the most important.

You need to eat well and sleep well to do your job well.

"Third Uncle." When Yu Dawei came in, he saw his third uncle holding two large bowls, drinking golden millet porridge.

"Hmm." Third Uncle raised his chin. "Sit down. After you finish eating, help me take a look at those parts outside. How did you sleep last night?"

"If I can't sleep well in a 110-yuan hotel, then I'll never find a place to sleep well." Yu Dawei then pulled out a chair and sat down. "I took a shower yesterday, and then fell asleep as soon as my head hit the bed."

Uncle San smiled and teased, "You're just as carefree as you were when you were a kid, nothing's changed, that's a good thing."

Yu Dawei scratched his head awkwardly, only then realizing that besides his third uncle and the fourth bald man, there were three other people, but they were all unfamiliar faces and he had never seen them before.

Qi Dadu, on the other hand, greeted the three men as he entered, and then introduced them to Yu Dawei: "These three are from Qishi Yuanyang Parts, and this is Boss Tang."

Among the three, the middle-aged man dressed in black stood up and shook hands with Yu Dawei: "My name is Tang Xiong. Master Yu, if you need anything, just let me know. I have all kinds of engineering parts."

"Mr. Tang, you're too kind. I'm just a truck repairman. If I need anything, my third uncle will definitely contact you." Yu Dawei smiled and looked at the other party.

"That's for sure, that's for sure." Tang Xiong awkwardly withdrew his hand. He was clearly unaware of the importance of Hou Wanshan, who was silently drinking porridge to the side, in everyone's eyes.

Moreover, it was unwise of him to try and flirt with the master in front of everyone.

Uncle San, however, seemed not to have heard anything and continued drinking his millet porridge without a care.

Qi Dadu couldn't help but secretly glance at Boss Tang next to him, inwardly cursing him to death.

Are you out of your mind? I was praising Master Yu the whole way yesterday, but don't you remember what Master Yu called Hou Wanshan when he came in?
That's someone's uncle! He really knows how to make things difficult for me.

Qi Daduzi took the initiative to stand up and speak, trying to ease the awkward atmosphere: "Boss Xiao, besides porridge, they also have steamed buns and fried dough sticks. If you want some, I'll get you some."

"Then let's have a steamer of steamed buns. As for porridge, the millet porridge on the table will do." Yu Dawei then took a bowl of porridge from the table and slurped it down.

"Mr. Hou, now that we've met, please let me know if you need anything in the future. I'm not very good with words, but I always keep my word." Tang Xiong realized he had misspoke earlier and tried to make amends to Hou Wanshan.

He wasn't actually the big boss of Sino-Ocean Group; the real big boss was his brother, who was also the one who handled the business on a daily basis.

Unexpectedly, his child suddenly fell ill and was hospitalized, leaving him no choice but to step in and take on this large order.

Tang Xiong knew that this Boss Hou was the real boss, but the other party's cold demeanor and disregard for him made him really reluctant to have any contact with him.

"If it's useful, definitely." Hou Wanshan replied calmly, put down his bowl, got up and walked outside. "You guys take your time eating, I'm going outside for some fresh air."

Yu Dawei glanced at this boss Tang Xiong and silently mourned for him for three seconds.

I don't know if the parts at the parts shop Lao Qi found are any good, but this guy really has no sense of propriety at all. Didn't he see that his third uncle was keeping his head down and drinking porridge, not wanting to say a word? He couldn't tell at all that his third uncle was in a terrible mood.

Yu Dawei felt that this Boss Tang Xiong was currently pushing the boundaries of his third uncle's bottom line and courting death.

If there's nothing wrong with the car's parts, that's fine. But if there is, this matter will probably be discussed at length.

Having wasted a whole night, I should at least try to get something out of the other person.

At this moment, the third uncle, who was standing silently outside the door, stared at the pickup truck, and that was really what he was thinking.

Inside the house, the group finished their breakfast in this rather eerie atmosphere.

Yu Dawei also began to inspect the Dongfeng 140 engine parts that had been brought over, mainly to check the quality level of the parts. Some unscrupulous parts shop owners like to pass off inferior parts as superior ones.

They even sell used parts as new ones.
