Chapter 10 Car Repair
Yu Dawei didn't touch his excavator all afternoon; he spent the whole time helping Duan Dahai sort through the garbage.

No matter how busy you are, one more day won't make a difference.

Yu Dawei was too impatient back then; he didn't do many subtle and gradual things, and instead took big strides forward.

As expected, it turned out to be a load of bull.

He still remembers the second major turning point in his life before his rebirth, when his uncle-in-law introduced him to a car repair project at the mine when he was about to retire.

My uncle-in-law was busy with everything, helping with company registration and bidding. He also used his connections with various old friends to finally win the project.

But as a result, Yu Da thought he was capable again, and no matter how much his second brother and uncle tried to persuade him, he insisted on taking on another mine repair project.

At first, everything was fine. With my uncle-in-law in charge, we could get through any problems. But once he retired, all sorts of strange and shady characters started to emerge.

In addition, poor employee management and constant arguments between the couple ultimately led to the downfall of Yu Dawei's company.

From a boss earning millions a year, Mr. Yu has returned to being a manual laborer repairing cars.

If you don't accumulate steps, you can't reach a thousand miles.

This was a sigh Yu Dawei uttered while eating hot pot with his eldest son in a small bar during the company's liquidation.

Now, starting over, Yu Dawei set aside his humanity and pride, and began as an ordinary rural peasant, humbly seeking advice and gradually accumulating experience.

He's not in a hurry; he wants to take each step carefully.

Whether it's a relationship or a matter.

In the evening, Yu Dawei fished out a sauerkraut from under the wall and cut some potato strips.

Order some braised sauerkraut, topped with steamed buns.

Cooking is done on a small stove. You remove the stove lid with a stove hook, put the large ladle on it, and you can cook. The taste is just as fragrant as cooking in a large pot.

In addition, Master Yu has dedicated his life to honing his culinary skills, and even his simple stewed sauerkraut surpasses that of the small Northeastern restaurant next door.

"My goodness, this smells amazing!" As soon as Duan Dahai entered the house, he took off his dog-skin hat, his stomach growling like thunder, and his mouth was practically watering.

"Did you put meat in?"

"No, I just saw some leftover meat slices in the bowl and threw them in."

"Brother, there's a piece of pork in the metal cabinet by the door. You can take it back and thaw it whenever you want to eat it." Duan Dahai was a little disappointed. If there were more slices of meat in this dish, it would be absolutely amazing!

However, when Duan Dahai took his first bite, he couldn't help but give it a thumbs up.

Each person can only create their own unique flavor when cooking, but Yu Dawei's dishes allowed Duan Dahai to experience the pinnacle of stewing.

No need for words, just get to work!
The two of them practically wolfed down their food. Yu Da himself hadn't cooked with a stove in many years, so it was essentially a meal cooked over a wood fire.

Whether it's stir-fried dishes or braised rice, the taste is completely different from the food cooked in the restaurant.

After spending a day together, Yu Dawei gradually integrated into the life at the recycling station. He was also clear about his future responsibilities: he would help out when he had free time and cook when it was time to cook.

He will no longer be like he was in his aunt's house in his previous life, living like a big shot and having everything done for him.

Duan Dahai was very satisfied with his brother; he was decisive in his work, straightforward in his dealings, and genuine in his character.

That's good enough. When the children in the village face strangers, they either pretend to be very enthusiastic on the surface, but actually keep their distance in their hearts.

It's rare to find a young man like Yu Dawei who is so sensible, genuine, and unpretentious. Duan Dahai, who has lived for over forty years and spent most of his life collecting scraps, has developed a keen eye for people and situations.

During dinner, Duan Dahai couldn't resist having a couple of sips of wine. After dinner, he took the initiative to wash the dishes. Then the two of them lay down on the heated kang (a traditional Chinese bed-stove) and chatted about each other's past.

Duan Dahai has a son who is now in junior high school in the town. However, he lives in the dormitory and doesn't like living with his father. It seems that he looks down on his father, who is a ragpicker, from the bottom of his heart.

"So, I thought, when I have money one day, I must become a boss, a real boss, the kind that everyone envies to death, hehe." Duan Dahai imagined the future, but his tone was mixed with disappointment. "But when I get to this age, I don't know if I'll still have the chance."

"Brother Duan, you're only in your forties, you have a long life ahead of you, that day will definitely come." Yu Dawei flattered him, and it was indeed true.

"Maybe." Duan Dahai stared into the darkness, listening to the crackling of the fire above him, feeling both warm and cold.

The next day.

Yu Dawei is officially preparing to repair the excavator.

He pulled a piece of old plastic sheeting out of the garbage heap. Although it was torn in some places, it could still be used after being glued back on with transparent tape.

Then they pulled out some broken plastic sheets and pieced them all together.

He planned to set up a simple tent around the excavator.

The recycling station is very large. The west side is full of waste materials, the middle is a fence made of nailed wooden boards, and there is a gate and passageway in the middle. The east side is some miscellaneous items and sorting area.

The excavator was placed in the northeast corner of the yard against the wall. This place is outside a rental market and is very spacious, so there shouldn't be any accidents while repairing the machine.

Moreover, with two walls in place, the tent made of plastic sheeting only needs one wooden stick to support the last corner.

Yu Dawei then got busy.

There weren't many people selling scrap today, so Duan Dahai offered to help. The two of them set up a plastic shed in just one morning, perfectly enclosing the excavator.

Although the top is now level with the roof of the car, Yu Dawei doesn't think it matters.

He couldn't fix the car until he had completely removed all the cement.

"Brother, plastic sheeting alone isn't enough. Although it can block the wind, you can't stand being inside for a long time in temperatures of minus thirty or forty degrees Celsius." Duan Dahai stroked his stubble, somewhat pessimistic.

"Hehe, don't rush, it's not over yet." Yu Dawei smiled mysteriously, then turned around and went back to the junkyard to rummage through the garbage again.

"You little rascal, you really don't stand on ceremony with me. Whatever you need, I'll help you." Duan Dahai chuckled, looking at Yu Dawei as if he were his youngest brother.

However, of the seven siblings, only the youngest brother drowned in the river one summer while bathing.

In those impoverished times, human life seemed so insignificant, so insignificant that it left one speechless with grief.

Every time Duan Dahai passed by that deep pond on his way back to his hometown, he would feel very sad and even resent his other brothers for having to take Lao Qi with him.

"found it!"

Yu Dawei, carrying a massive oil drum taller than a man, trudged out of the western garbage dump, saying, "Brother Duan, we agreed you could take whatever you wanted here. This thing is now my requisition! Hahaha!"

Duan Dahai stood in the courtyard, staring blankly at Yu Dawei's figure, as if he saw his eighteen-year-old brother from ten years ago, carrying a metal cabinet out of his garbage dump.

"Brother, you promised, right? Take whatever you want. This metal cabinet is mine now, hahaha!"
