Chapter 610, Section 2.2: Chess Pieces
"You did this on purpose?" Mingxi looked at Mingjin, raised an eyebrow slightly, and asked.
"It's just guidance," Ming Jin said softly, lowering his eyes. He picked up the black tea on the table, took a small sip, and his expression was solemn and serious.
“I’ve always suspected that Dao Lin is Gu Shurong, and now your words confirm it.” Bertias pushed back his chair, stood up, and walked out with the envelope between his fingers.
"Are you going to investigate Daolin?" The lake-blue eyes watched Bertias's departing figure quietly and asked with a light laugh.
Bertias paused slightly, standing at the doorway and looking up at the lights in the corridor. He said slowly, "It's impossible to lose one's memory for no reason, nor is it possible to change one's appearance for no reason. I always found it strange that Daolin and Lazy looked the same, but now I have a reason to investigate."
“Although Dao Lin first appeared in the Kingdom of Sin, you are the best in the Kingdom of the Unbelievable. Also…” Ming Jin looked down at the black tea in her cup, narrowed her lake-blue eyes slightly, and her voice suddenly turned cold, “If you find Dao Lin doing anything inappropriate, kill him immediately.”
“I see…” Bertias was slightly taken aback, then seemed to realize something. He slowly closed his eyes, gave a bitter smile, and said, “I understand.”
"What do you want to say to Bertias?" Mingxi frowned and asked.
Mingjin stood up, took a chessboard from a cabinet, and placed it back on his table. He took out a white chess piece and placed it on his side, saying slowly, "Because this is the most appropriate piece at the moment."
"So? Who else?" Mingxi walked to his side, looked at the lone chess piece on the chessboard, narrowed her eyes, and asked again.
“Me.” He said, picking up another white car and placing it on the shelf.
Mingxi watched as Mingjin arranged the chess pieces while talking, then suddenly fell silent. Only after Mingjin had arranged all the pieces did he ask, "So it was for that purpose after all?"
“There’s no way to leave, no chance to leave, so I will personally send her up to become the queen. For this, everyone is a pawn, even me. Before that, I will eliminate every soldier who can hinder the king, one by one.” His lake-blue eyes stared quietly at the chessboard, his expression devoid of any smile.
Mingxi saw Mingjin with her head down, clutching the king chess piece tightly in her hand. He reached out and placed it on her. Feeling the trembling of Mingjin's hand, he squatted down to look her in the eye.
Her lake-blue eyes gazed quietly at the face that was exactly like her own, a hint of reluctance and concern in them.
"Jin, it's time to rest," Mingxi said softly.
"I don't want to yet, I haven't..." Ming Jin shook her head and refused.
Before he could finish speaking, Mingxi embraced him. He slowly closed his eyes and said wearily, "I want to rest... Xi... I'm so tired... But every time I close my eyes, all I see is a silent death... No matter what I do, she's still dead... Just like when I saw myself... What should I do!"
His voice trembled, filled with fear and dread.
Mingxi hugged Mingjin, gently patting his back, as if comforting him, or perhaps comforting herself. He whispered, "It's okay, there's definitely a way, there really is..."
Mingjin pushed Mingxi away and said softly, "I'm going to wash my face."
Mingxi took a few steps back, watching Mingjin's departing figure. He opened his mouth, but ultimately said nothing. He slumped into Mingjin's seat, looking up at the chessboard, his expression somewhat lost and dejected.
After leaving the room, Ming Jin went straight back to the pool in the room, where she froze as if she were stuck, like a statue...
He didn't know how much time had passed before his trembling hands turned on the tap. Listening to the 'whooshing' sound of the water, he braced his hands on the edge of the sink, as if only his arms had any strength left. His lake-blue eyes stared silently at the flowing water, reflecting the falling water, and a look of despair filled his eyes.
He closed his eyes tightly, lowered his head, and let the water wash over his hair, trying to hide something falling.
“Mo Mo…” His slightly hoarse voice carried a hint of nasal tone as he murmured to himself.
He was given a death warrant when he was five years old. From then on, he tried his best to survive, but in the end, everything was destroyed and he was told that he would die peacefully at the age of 32 and could not change his future.
Then he saw that his favorite person would die soon, and he wanted to change this future, but he still couldn't find a solution.
"Is the existence of prophecy meant to make people even more desperate?" Ming Jin asked in her hoarse, nasal voice.
Suddenly another voice came from inside the room, "That depends on how you look at it."
Ming Jin turned off the tap. He looked up at the uninvited guest, his expression calm and completely devoid of the despair he had just felt, as if nothing had ever happened.
“Isaiah.” He narrowed his lake-blue eyes slightly and warned.
“You didn’t close the door,” Isaiah explained calmly.
His long, raven-gray hair completely obscured his face, giving off an oppressive and gloomy feeling. He was holding a huge book in his arms and was standing in the room, observing Ming Jin through the gaps in his hair.
His silver, tousled hair hung down his head, dripping water onto his neck and collar, giving him a unique allure and handsomeness. Ming Jin ignored the fact that his clothes were gradually getting wet from the water droplets in his hair, and instead stared intently at Isaiah.
“I am different from you, an innocent child who still knows the light.” Isaiah suddenly raised his hand and lifted his long hair behind his ear to reveal his long, elven-like ear, but the ear looked as if it had been deliberately damaged, appearing incomplete and ugly.
Isaiah let down his hair and said again, “You live in a happy family, while I have lived in sorrow all my life. I have never felt any kindness from others, so what do their deaths have to do with me? For me, death is a relief.”
“Haven’t you always shown a fear of death?” Ming Jin retorted.
“I’ve said that death is a release, but if I, who have been invited by the rules, were to die, then it wouldn’t be a release. So even if I were to die, I would only choose to die outside, not die here and live here forever.” Isaiah opened the book and looked down at something, speaking slowly.
Isaiah sighed softly, turned and walked out, his tone carrying a profound meaning, "I really envy you guys who are born good-looking. No matter how incompetent you are, as long as you have this face, you will always receive preferential treatment. Unlike me, because I am ugly, no matter how outstanding I am, it is all wrong."
